Honestly iv seen loads of youtube channels show such luxorious hotels from around the world but Tim shows you hotels which are quirky, strange, luxury yet affordable even, hotels which you wouldnt have ever thought about, keep it up Tim 👌

The Good old days when flying was the highlight of the trip and now it’s like flying in a crowded bus

The actual terminal was opened in 1962 , landmarked in 1994 and the hotel opened in 2019..The building was designed by Eero Saarinen, Finnish Architect,son of the Architect Eliel Saarinen ......the red carpet was a theme in the original terminal also..note that the terminal has a bird wing shape...the carpet was to be the flow through the body....for many years the building sat empty after 2001....I had visited the active terminal when I was younger ..it was fabulous then....still fabulous now... As someone trained in Architecture,its great to see reuses like this.... I love your channel Tim...always great visits to some great unique hotels...hi to your family.....

I used to go through this terminal in the 1980s going to and from New York, I love the building, it's brilliant that they saved it. I especially remember the corridors leading to the gates, very space-age.

I used to be a Gold TWA flyer living in NYC, and used that terminal "for real" 100s of times. It's sort of bittersweet to see this. I suppose, on balance, better to be preserved in some manner than to be replaced with an inferior modern piece of ""architecture."" But I still wish TWA had continued in existence (a great airline) and operation. I enjoyed your recent London Ritz video too. Thanks for all.

I had a six hour lay-over at the airport last year and spent three hours in the TWA hotel looking at everything. It was a great way to break up that long lay-over.

I am so old, I actually used that terminal as a real terminal back in the day (late 80's- and the 90s). It was even amazingly cool then. A masterpiece by Eero Saarinen.

This is the best adaptive reuse of a building EVER!! I was in that terminal not long before TWA went away...it was so rundown. But they've kept so much of the layout. BTW, that is a BMW Isetta microcar.

Wow what a brilliant piece of retro! I loved the architecture. People are saying the hotel is outdated? Well, of course! That's the whole point!😊 My living room looks like that. I rescued all my parents mid-century furniture and household stuff when they were "updating" in the 90s, and and now it's all the height of chick! Really enjoyed this. I'd stay there! Cheers Tim!

We had a neighbour who worked for TWA, as a stewardess, in the 70's and we were in awe of her. She was so glamorous, in the age where flying anywhere was a luxury.

Woah. Can’t believe I wasn’t aware this existed. Such a cool place and great use of the old terminal!

Love Eero Saarinen designs. He also did the Gateway to West arch in St. Louis Missouri. His “womb” chair is one of the most comfortable chairs in existence. Many of his designs are still available to buy through KNOLL furniture.

Halfway through this, I said to my wife, this is one of the best hotels you've visited, shame the room wasn't as good as the hotel, great video Tim.

My grandfather worked on that building, it is absolutely beautiful. Also I remember being in there seeing my grandparents off to Italy and playing under the stairs trying to slide down that small incline. Boy I miss those days....

Nice that they had a cocktail named after the designer. Thr building is absolutely iconic and one of his best works in my opinion. Im very glad it has been saved and put to use. The departure lounge is just something else.

Wow, I had no idea the terminal had been converted to a hotel. If I recall my architecture history correctly, this terminal was designed by the Helsinki train station architect. So, you retained a common theme across your latest videos!

I stumbled upon this account a few days ago and I've been hooked ever since! I love the way you film and vlog your adventures. You have a great eye and film style and it's very engaging. You've got a great sense of humour too!

It’s an amazingly beautiful hotel and it’s super nostalgic! I definitely want to visit it one day! However, I do think for the price there were a few things overlooked. The fridge being out of order and the 18 dollar cocktails in plastic cups is kind of a bummer.

I was 16 in 1973 and walked thru this terminal during my connection to Rome on a student tour. I didn't realize how iconic this terminal was. I later became a travel agent but never got back to see this again.

Great tour, Tim! I stayed at the TWA in Oct. 2022 for the photo ops and it didn't disappoint! I did not book the Presidential Suite, chose a room on opposite side for a view of the hotel itself as opposed to the runways. I was there for the architecture! Combined it with a tour of Brooklyn Bridge (again, photo ops). Cabbed into Brooklyn, there's a cab stand outside the hotel. Reasoning that I'd be stuck in awful traffic to return I hopped a helicopter (Blade) back to JFK (10 min. from midtown Manhattan!) and they even provide a luxe suv straight to the hotel. I'm a child of the 60's so this retro hotel was a dream come true! I did miss having water and coffee provided in my room. But overall a cool experience! BTW, the Lincoln convertible parked outside the TWA Hotel is a restored '63 Continental painted "Kennedy Blue" - a blue created specifically for JFK's presidential limo.

Looks amazing, I love the 60's aesthetics. Very unique hotel and that bar area, pool and plane are awesome!

My son, now 16, and I stayed there together overnight a year and a half ago. We are both airplane and airline enthusiasts... we had a wonderful time!! I am in my mid 50s, and I flew a lot as a child given that we lived on the east coast and both sets of grandparents (well, by then just my grandfather on the one side as my grandmother passed relatively young) lived on the west coast. The 1st 3 flights I remember being on were TWA 707s transcontinental into SFO. So I have always had a spot in my heart for TWA... Oh, and the runway view rooms here are amazing!!

Trans World Airlines (TWA) An American International dyfunct airline. That still has a big name/logo recognition. I love the mid-century decor and architecture they were able to preserve. When America was at it's height. Circa 50's - 60's.

I’ve stayed here. We has a layover in JFK with a toddler and this made it so much more manageable. Doesn’t cost much more than lounge access and honestly it’s a better experience.

Love this video! I live very close to JFK and know all about this hotel, but have never been to see it for myself. But now I definitely hope to. I remember back in the 60’s when it first opened - TWA was THE airline to fly. The building was a destination in itself. And I remember when it became run down and was closed. Fortunately, someone had the vision of saving it and turning it into a hotel . And here we are! ❤

We stayed there last year and it was so nostalgic for me as my father flew for TWA so we always flew out of that terminal. The staff was really nice and very willing to listen to stories of the olden days. We had a runway room and I wished my dad had been able to see it . He would have stayed up all night just watching the plans take off and land.

My family and I loved our stay here. It was a lot of fun with a lot of nostalgia. I’m sick of 90% of hotel looking exactly the same in the room. This didn’t. It was also a great choice for an early morning connection. So convenient.

That is really cool and I am sooo glad they did not tear it down.. It is classic architecture and needs to be preserved. WE have a Trainstation in Cincinnati, UNION TERMINAL, that wsa on the chopping block but it is one of the classic examples of Art Deco architecture in the world and has one of the the largest 1/2 Domes. They originally turned that into a "mall" but later it was turned into our History Museums and the National History Museums and an IMAX theater. It still has trains but the main concourse was destroyed, unfortunately (and these incredible murals were transfered to our airport. ) WE need to preserve classic architecture..

Absolutely top notch video as always, so please don't think my negative comment is towards you Tim! But that hotel (as a hotel guest) just looks like a complete rip off. I'd love to visit and just do the free stuff without booking a room. Not even a bottle of water in a room at that price eh!? I think I'd rather stay at the JFK Inn and that's saying something :D

I remember flying TWA, Eastern Airlines and Pan Am. The airlines then like you said, more room, good food, drinks. Not like today. Thank you for bringing me back my childhood flying on an airplane ❤I remember flying the last Pan Am and eastern flight to the Bahamas. So sad most of the airlines are now gone

The TWA Hotel is amazing; I only popped inside when I was catching a flight just to have a look around (you've got to look like you're meant to be at the hotel otherwise they move you on) but its got such incredible style and the building is incredible. As a hotel, it's definitely expensive though. P.S. Catch Me If You Can was literally filmed here!

I went with my son pre primary school age and we all loved it. You should try it out with Gaby and Thumper. Only found your channel recently but have been binging the videos. Hi Tim! Thanks as always. I just wanted to say that post WW2, and especially in the mid 1950's and 1960's, TWA was at the top of its class. TWA was famous for flying the jet set from NYC to London and Paris. All of the the Madison Avenue advertising executives flew TWA. They also flew to Japan. I'm sure you'll say in your video, but the whole atmosphere was very classy, and this hotel is made to replicate that feel.

I got such a kick out of you walking around where I have been many times!😀 My first flight out of that terminal was in '75 and the last time was 2001. Looks like time just stood still. I went through this terminal back in the 80s on my way to London. I remember thinking how cool and futuristic the terminal was. I’m so glad it wasn’t demolished! I’d love to stay there!!

I thought the room wasn’t that special for a four star hotel and the condition of that fridge was shocking - was it supposed to be useable or just a feature? and no water, tea, or coffee was a big miss. Very interesting to see though ❤

Incredible! Just my style! It shows what can be done with an old terminal. Not a presidential quality suite you would expect by today's standards but, that was probably presidential standards in the '60s. A plastic glass for the cocktail was a bit naff. Cost? Well, you are, of course, paying for the uniqueness. But, what an experience!

Oh that place is just awesome, I was a teenager in the sixties and still love the mid century modern style. I thought for the price it missed a few amenities (water, in room coffee/tea making supplies etc) but it`s so different and seems to be pretty well maintained (other than the fridge)

So cool! My very first plane ride was many years ago, on TWA I got bumped up to first class when there was a problem with my original flight and I loved it! It was from Newark NJ back home to Southern Calif. It was fun!

I went through this terminal on my first trip to Europe in 1991. Such stunning architecture!

Your references to “Catch Me if You Can” are relevant because Frank Abignale didn’t fly Pan Am. Frank knew that he would be exposed if he turned up to Pan Am impersonating an employee, so instead he would “dead head” on other airlines (including TWA). Also the walkway to the modern terminal was used in a scene in the movie, when Frank decided to go on one last flight, and met with the FBI officer (Tom Hanks) in the walkway.

I got to fly out of that terminal a few times as a kid in the late 70's. I adored it then and am glad it is open again for people to marvel at.

I remember going into a heated lido pool in Germany in October and it was one of my best experiences. Something about being in super hot water whilst it's freezing outside is lush. What an anazing hotel! I think i would just be constantly anxious about missing my flight-even if I didn't have one lol
