Fun Fact Pompsie: this hostel was used as the filming location for The Best Little Chapel in The Hangover in 2009. The chapel was a facade used for the movie and this is where the guys flee in the stolen cop car. Look it up, very cool.

About ten years ago I stayed at a hostel on Fremont street. About twenty-five dollars. They had an awesome Champagne Las Vegas Boulevard “VIP” tour with a limo. The champagne flowed and the smoke was heavy. We lost a couple Aussies somewhere along the way. Great experience. For the single traveler who is gregarious, hostels may be a better choice than a hotel.

The weirdest hostel I ever stayed at was a hostel in Munich Germany. It was just a large circus tent with a wood floor. They gave you 3 blankets. You used one as a mattress one as a pillow and one as your blanket. In the morning they made breakfast and tea in a hugh kettle.

Back in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, most people that came to Vegas for a cheap, fun vacation drove there. The north Strip, south Strip and Fremont East had scores of cool, cheap motor lodges that were actually decent places to stay. Once Vegas became commercialized and there was the mega-resort building boom, these motels went downhill, fast. Most are gone. Those that remain either became hostels (like the one you are in) or seedy places that are more appropriate for urban explorers than vacationers.

Hostel's are big in Europe. My son and his friend went all around Germany staying in hostels in their early 20's. It was fun for them, and very cheap (some were $10 a night) as they didn't really have an itinerary of what cities they wanted to go to. Hostels are good for throw your bag down, sleep, get up and leave. They remind me of the camp houses when I went to camp as a little girl. At least you were well protected by a very highly trained body guard (Jacob 😀) $67.00 seemed a little high when you said it, but I guess that's Vegas for ya.

I spent 3 months volunteering here helping run reception, before when it was Hostel Cat. Some very very good memories. I saw more sunrises then sunsets, fun late nights making friends with people from around the world. It was almost like I was travelling on my own, the travelers would come to me. Barely scraping by on 7/11 food and 99cent store basics. Blew my mind, the 99cent stores carry produce. Back then, you could get a night in a 10 bed for $24. Really neat you were able to share this way of travel with 80,000+ people. I will probably be a hostel cat to the grave, I love the vibes.

This was super interesting to watch after working at the front desk of a hotel all day. I've always thought that they could redevelop that area into an "old town/throwback/old days" part of town with those little motels re-branded as classic names from Vegas' past. Kind of like how "The Mint" did.
