I met David in 1971 the night before a concert he was giving at Monticello Raceway in New York. It was raining and he was the only other person sitting at the concession stand. He was wearing a suede floppy hat and sunglasses apparently an attempt to disguise himself. Me being a young teenage girl, I recognized that look that he was thinking Oh no here we go again. I told him not to worry, I wasn’t going to bother him and that I had problems of my own. (My mom and I had just gotten into a fight). He genuinely seemed to care and we just started chatting. I told him that I was attending his concert the following afternoon and he asked me what I was going to be wearing so he could pick me out of the crowd and dedicate a song to me, which he did. Terribly saddened over his death.

This song, The Partridge Family, & Mr David Cassidy take me back to a magical time when the world was full of promise, & anything was possible. Perfectly put. These were times of what seemed like purity to me, very little conflict, just exploring and learning about life and really not having much responsibility (I was 7 at the time). I'm a singer, 52 years old. I was at a house party for Halloween about a week ago. My friends and I play requests. This song was a request, and while I was never a big fan of the PF, I realized I knew and could sing the whole lead vocal, even though I hadn't heard it in maybe 30 years. I learned the words to this song when I was 10 years old. We lived in student housing at an Ivy League college in New England. There was a lovely family up the hill , Lori and Susie Keith. They taught me the song. Life was so fun back then. Those were the days when all the kids in the neighborhood played kickball til dark. They moved away the next year but every time I hear this song I think of them and how only 10 year olds could giggle over David Cassidy. Maybe some day they will see this video and remember too.

So many memories from my younger days traveling with my family. Had this song copied on a cassette with Knock Three Times and Sugar Sugar. Plus others. I had only 1 tape which was played on my tape recorder, over and over. In a small car with my parents and sister from Virginia to Tennessee and down west coast Florida and up east coast, during Christmas break. Im pretty sure after two weeks, my dad confiscated the tape once home.

This video. The first time I saw an electric guitar. (Danny's) and I was smitten. 43 years later, I'm still writing songs, playing guitar. This show shaped my life. Beat the hell out of the Brady Bunch, hands down. I just watched and remember being 7 and asking my mom what an electric guitar was. Wow. Thanks, PF for .. too much to list. 😊

Great song that somehow never makes the Power Pop lists. Criminally overlooked.

They don't make them like they used to. How many shows nowadays have a Format like the Patridge Family and the Monkees for example which the cast does a show and tune at the end.....Unique. Those days are missed but thanks to the Internet can be re-lived. Love their songs also!
