Working hard to get into IT right now and all the employers I talk to are split on degrees. Some say just get the appropriate certifications and its fine and some (mostly older places) insist on some form of degree. YOU ROCK Bagel!!!

I work in IT and defo focus on getting an entry level job for experience and then add industry certs to valid your knowledge/experience!! Degrees are useless unless you can complete them part time while working. The Cost to benefit ratio makes them e tier compared to industry certs. I am about to move into a 100k base salary (AUD) job with level 2 experience (4 years total IT experience) under my belt and no certs whatsoever so technically experience is king.

If you choose to ride the certification train you have to stay on it till you hit management. Pick a path (Networking, Cloud, Security, etc) and go down that one. ITIL & PMP aren't a bad idea either.

Even having a degree doesn't mean shit for compsci at this point, even pre-covid there was going to be an oversaturation of juniors entering the field because it was already one of the most rapidly growing in popularity programs at most universities.

Considering I cut meat for a living if I hurt myself at work, it's far more dangerous than if Bagel does. Fortunately in 13 years I've cut myself fewer than 10 times, which is a pretty good record, since most of my coworkers have done so many times over.
