On Monday 5 September 2016 with support from eSocSci (www.esocsci.org..., the “I, Too, Am Auckland” team is proud to present a half-day Research Café titled, “Switching on Digital Activism.” The day will explore pros and cons of relying on digital media for activist purposes and provide tangible examples of how digital media has been used in local activist settings. Among other things, the day will include:
· Keynote address by Dr Theresa Petray, James Cook University, “Sites of Subversion: The Opportunities and Challenges of Social Media for Activism”.
· Research and community-based panels addressing race, indigeneity, gender and sexuality in activist settings.
· Premiere of two new videos from “I, Too, Am Auckland” and a video teaser on masculinity in New Zealand.

I, Too, Am Auckland is a student initiative dedicated to the collaboration of Pacific Islander and Māori students & the wider University of Auckland community. to produce programming in the interest of building a more diverse educational environment; promote community among Pacific Islander students, Māori students, and faculty; and enhance cultural understanding. I, too, am Auckland strives to educate University of Auckland members, faculty, and campus community, as well as the public, of the current challenges facing Pacific and Māori communities.
