I periodically take cold showers and its really helped me adjust to living in a colder climate. Seriously, after a cold shower, you will slap a T-shirt on and feel warm in what was a "cold" apartment only 20 minutes earlier. It changes your bodies reaction to cold, and your tolerance thresholds.

I've been doing these now for about a month. The biggest thing I noticed right off the bat is more focus. Usually I wake up and procrastinate but after a cold shower I can't stop being productive. Also forcing myself into the cold shower and forcing myself to do something uncomfortable, I feel accomplished right after and Its alot easier putting myself out of my comfort zone now in everyday situations. I tried the warm to cold shower before and did not get this feeling, I'd recommend starting cold right off the bat, overcoming that initial shock to me is the biggest benefit of all

Tips for those just starting out with cold showers or want to start cold showers, don't go head in (pun intended) with the coldest shower, especially for those who normally shower at the hottest setting. The potential injuries from shock and even hypothermia isn't worth it. Instead, start with a lukewarm shower for about a minute, then switch to the hottest bearable water for 2 minutes, and then the coldest bearable water for 30 seconds. Repeat switching from the hottest bearable to the coldest bearable for at least 10 minutes. Each week, increase the cold time by 15 seconds and hot time by 30 seconds. Always end on a cold shower. Most important is just to control your breathing. Taking deep breaths in and out and keep the shock under control. As well, always start head first when switch the temps. Even though it seems easier to start with the feet when getting into water, it takes the longest for your body to adapt to the temps. Starting with the head lets your body adapt the quickly changing temps the fastest. If you've ever gone to a pool or beach and the water is cold, the biggest challenge is to always go under because you know it's cold and standing there with your toes in never helps. I've been taking cold showers for about 5-6 months now. When I started out, it was always a build up to get into the showers because I was going full send into a cold shower. I eventually switched to the lukewarm-hot-cold alternating shower, and it helped immensely. Staying within what's barely tolerable really helps keep you under control. I currently alternate between cold for 1 minute and hot for 2 minutes, and both temps are relaxing in their own ways now. I've definitely noticed a massive difference in temp tolerance too outside the shower. It was 38 degrees and drizzling, and I was out washing and detailing my car in shorts and tshirt for four hours. Came in, did my alternating shower. Felt great after. I really like the alternating shower because both hot and cold showers have massive benefits. Hot showers help relax your muscles, expand veins and increase blood flow, and open up pores for cleaning. Cold showers increase metabolism as your body is working to produce more of its own heat, promotes fat burn, activates your immune system, closes pores to help protect the skin, and increases blood circulation. Just have to make sure to always end on a cold shower as its benefits last long after you're done unlike hot showers. You can either alternate 2-3 minutes on hot and 1 minute on cold or split it in half starting with hot and then switching to cold. That's more so what professional athletes do. They'll go into the sauna for 10 minutes and then go dunk into an ice bath or cold shower for 10 minutes.

I find the first thirty seconds to be the most difficult, especially if I'm in a negative mood (tired, weak, cranky etc). Once the initial shock with all the huffing and puffing is over, first my skin turns a bit numb, then my breathing starts going back to normal and finally I feel how my body starts to mobilize heat to counter the cold water. If I can make it past the minute mark, I can stay under for as long as I wish.

That shock reaction was hilarious! I've worked my way up to about 7 minute cold showers for the past 2 months...definitely feel more awake and makes it easier to do hard things through out the day as well as increasing my outside cold tolerance by alot. Hasn't helped to lose weight or anything but I'm sticking with it...sometimes switching to hot after 7 minutes but still! 😋

Based on my experience I highly recommend pouring water step by step futher in 4 "chapters": - first I instnatly pour it on the feet just so you get to know how cold it is before you go all in - second I go right of the feet up to the belly button AT ONCE and from there its really easy to water your legs all around - next again IN ONE MOVE you go with the handshower to the top of your chest slightly below the neck and you can instantly water all of your upper body (shoulders, back) - lastly you pour it over your head and from now on most importantly TAKE DEEP BREATHS I advise that the whole "journey" shouldnt take to much time, because the slower you do it the harder it gets. Howewer by starting the cold shower like this in around 30 seconds it is much easier to adapt to the lower temperature quickly. (And also taking the coldie right after the training makes you almost not feel the cold)

We, as Muslims, were told by our Prophet Muhammad that we do not pour at once, but that we first wash the face, then the hands, then the legs, then the right part, then the left, then the head so that we do not get sick, so how did he know that?

I am a cold weather person that is cursed to live in the south (of hell) all my life and it’s already in the mid 90’s here. I absolutely despise hot and humid weather and just to see if it would help my endurance in the heat, I started doing this 3 days ago after my last bike ride of the day and I actually enjoy the cold blast now. Even after just a few days, I don’t seem to be as sensitive to the heat and even when I am miserable after a ride, I know that relief is just a cold shower away. I am going to try and do it for 14 days but if I continue to have results I will just continue to do it every day.

I adopted taking cold/colder showers over this last year and I can offer some thoughts and advice to those looking into it. Of course, you're free to ignore it all if you want, but I thought I would put it out there. First - I started taking cold showers because I was having ectopic heart palpitations, which in turn was causing me a lot of anxiety and then... more ectopic palpitations. Based on some reading, I discovered some people found success when taking cold showers. So I did... and it really helped me with the anxiety and palpitations. It could all be placebo effect, but I don't care, it worked for me. I started by taking coldish showers and then roll into the colder water as I adjust to it. It helps with the shock value that puts so many people off. Secondly, I have noticed much better skin. I am about to turn 50 and my skin is better than it has been in the last 10 years of my life. Tighter, softer, more youthful... it's weird and I don't have any idea why, but my wife even agrees. Thirdly, I notice all the focus improvements and such mentioned in the video, but it mostly I feel I am more of a master of my body and it's stress reactions. Learning to stay calm and breath when getting drenched in cold water is an amazing skill and cant translate to other stress reactions. Lastly, it takes longer than expected to get used to it, but if you stick with it, you might get as addicted to it as I am, so be patient. I do it every day and I swear by it. Anyway, hope this is potentially helpful to you folks out there in KZfaq land. Cheers!

been doing nothing but cold showers for like 4 months now. I've defenitely noticed the benefits, being much greater cold resistance, better immune system (havent gotten sickness in all of the four months), muscles not getting sore and/or tensed up, my hair feeling healthier, my skin feeling healthier, and the increase of energy and focus following the cold shower. I reccomend it, it will become much easier. At the beginning, It was scary; i would wait in the shower stall for like 5 minutes before i actually got in the water. I would have brainfreeze, shivering, etc. But by the second week, these symptoms faded away. It was merely cold.

I always start with a regular hot shower but then finish with a cold shower and you really do get used to it. I love how it feels and wakes my body and mind up. I always feel like coffee wakes your body up, so you get jittery but still feel tired in your head. Does that make sense lol? But cold showers wake you up completely and I always feel like I could tackle anything afterwards. And i always thought I could never "embrace the cold" but you kinda have to. Like breathe through it and at least accept it, if you can't embrace it. But it's really no use to fight it, that just makes you suffer lol. So yea cold showers are awesome and wim Hof is my hero 💙❄️

Ive been doing cold showers for the last 1 and half years, but i actually start with a nice warm/hot shower, then at the end switch to only cold. Another benefit is it closes your skin pores, which keeps the heat in and you feel warm instead of shivering when you hop out of the shower, also closed pores less dirt getting in when you dry off, means cleaner healthier looking skin. Great Life hack! first time i felt like i was in an electric chair, now focus on how deep your breaths are when the cold water hits, and take as many as you can. thats where one of the benefits lay, in the breathing.

The way he did it, without big cold shower experience will make him sick and have some headaches. Just do a Bond move that I use. Start 30 seconds in a decent warmth, then slowly progress to make it colder. That way, we will all become like Iceman Hoff.

Its easier when you Start with a normal short warm shower and then after you cleaned yourself, (if thats also what you want to do) you Start with cold on feet and work your way up to your legs, knees, thighs, belly, then Arms and shoulders ans chest come last because they are more sensitive. That way your blood has some time to circulate from the feet through the body and cool down slower so you dont feel like you have a shock from the cold. Probably better for the heart as well.

So are you supposed to take the cold shower and then a warm shower later in the day? By that I mean a cold shower without any body wash and shampoo but then the warm shower with?

Problem is that I workout in the morning. I actually wait like 30 minutes to eat and then I shower. Should be enough time right?

I’m from North Carolina and I do this everyday, it’s honestly nice, especially after it feels better.
