I TRANSLATED TOLKIEN'S "LOST" POEM | 'The Complaint of Mîm the Dwarf'

At some point during his lifetime, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a short poem and narrative titled: 'The Complaint of Mîm the Dwarf' in which the petty-dwarf looks back on the hardships and wrongdoings he suffered. This work is yet unpublished, only finding its way to us readers through a German publication.
The published poem and narrative are only known to exist in German. So I decided to work on a fun little project and create my own translation in English. This is what happened ...

This is a very good translation. In most cases it matches the two I have but in a few areas I feel your choices are better. I will consult with my co-conspirator of one translation and see how it can help us. And I will report back here when I can. Many thanks. Great work.

How can a translation of a translation be considered copyrighted, though?

@@Omnilatent Translation of copyright material can't be published without authorisation, because it is a derivative work. The German translation remains copyright of the estate by virtue of it being derivative. The re-translation is then a derivative of that. The law is pretty clear on it.

Very well done im from persia ,and just like tolkien i am in love with languages that's why I'm learning my fifth language Korean now ....i have to say though over here life is hard and tolkien sources are scarce ,i love middle earth and tolkien and i read everything original and buy the books original as well,but i wont touch translation, i wont trust anyone to translate his work or god forbid and most likely censor it ...despite Persian being an indo European language and shares grammar and lot of words with english and being 5000 years old and so rich with history and first in the world history, mythology and world wide famous poems ,i refuse to read it anything but english or ...Sindarin.😁 ps.did you know that persian had three scripts the firs persian empire script and second one and the modern one today which is the person arabic script (only European language with this script or one that isn't roman) thoush with persian we added a few alphabets arabs and other native middle easterners didn't have sound for which we did like p or zh and more ...despite this script not working at all with our language which causes a lot of issues and problems for the language top literature professor and others proposed moving to the roman or russian script which works with it ...but with the current murder**** in power very unlikely.
