What's your morning routine like, and can YOU touch your toes? 🤔 Please like + comment below to let me know (and YES, I have been keeping up with my new morning routine habit :) )

You have inspired me to do my own 30 day exercise challenge doing this! 🤸‍♀ I've printed out a calendar so I can keep up with it! I'm not quite sure what the spinning is supposed to do other than make me dizzy but I'll try it! 😃

I've gone through so many different morning exercise routines, and gone on and off of exercising at all so many times, that I've come to accept that I'll never stick to one routine everyday for the rest of my life. 😅 I think that's fine though! I just pay attention to what my brain and body want and need and try to incorporate exercise when it feels fun and/or beneficial. Right now I'm learning beginner ballet (shoutout to Ballet Misfit on KZfaq, her lessons are wonderful!) and I'm feeling really strong and having so much fun. I did the front splits for the first time ever this week!

I walk 4 miles every morning and then do Pilates for 30 minutes. At the age of 56 I can put my palms flat on the ground and I can do a handstand. And it feels great when I finish the routine because I just feel energetic and loose and alive. This was a really good video!

Just an extra bit of information. I bought the book a long time ago. It suggests that you start with 3 reps of each exercise at first and do that for a week, then each week increase each rep by 2 until you are doing 21 reps of each exercise. So in 10 weeks you will have worked up to doing all 21 reps. Also with the spinning rite, if you are in the Northern hemisphere you should spin clockwise and in the Southern hemisphere you spin in a counter clockwise.

@@angeladawn805 that's what it said in the Peter Kelder book called Tibetan secrets of youth and vitality How to look and feel younger using five ancient rites for stimulating your energy centres. I bought it in the UK in the late 80's. It had an edit that talked about natural phenomena like tornadoes and whirlpools which tend to spin in the opposite direction in the north and southern hemispheres. The exact wording in the book is "Therefore, in the southern hemisphere it is probably correct to perform rite number one by spinning counter-clockwise (ie right to left). So I guess it's either the writer's or editors interpretation. I do think these exercises are worth doing, I had awful back pain a few years back and started doing them again and it solved the issue within a week or so. I felt so much more flexible and generally free and full of energy too

@@juliafrackowska1558 in the book I have, it is written by the author who met an old man who was a retired British army officer, and they became friends, he meets up with the man four years later in America and doesn't recognise him because he looks so much younger. The book is written based on what the old man tells him about his time in a Tibetan monastery. The Colonel as he is referred to, suggests that you only practice the rite to the point of slight dizziness initially and that you can also do what figure skaters do by focusing on a point straight ahead and as you turn hold you focus on that point as long as you can then when you have to , spin your head quickly round to refocus on that point again. He also says not to do excessive amounts of spinning as that over stimulates some of the vortexes, which at first accelerates the flow of life but then blocks it. The monks tended not to do more than 21 spins. When I first did the rites, I started off with the 3 reps of each one and built it up by 2 each week, and I didn't have any issues

I used to be a massive yoga person, and since have had multiple injuries and surgeries, saw this, and tried a modified version `1 day on, 1 day off and I didn't do 21 reps at one go I started at 3, and have worked my way to 10, and I have noticed a huge improvement in my physical stability and strength. Thank you!

I’m 74. I recently had physical therapy for a long term knee “swelling”. My right knee is perfect especially for my age. My PT lasted 3 weeks but I have continued my exercises at home for 5 weeks not missing a day. I too kept up with my achievements in a notebook instead of a calendar. My left knee is getting closer every week to feeling as good as my right knee. You should be so proud of your improvement. Don’t worry about what this big world’s opinions what’s important is being satisfied with your own progress. In the end that’s really all that counts. Thank you for sharing your journey.

I am a former dancer. I’m very thin. I want you to know that I struggle with having people judge me for being too thin or weight training with tiny weights. Also, one of my daughters is the opposite of me. She also struggles with being judged because she is very curvy and she has had men make comments. Sharing this is incredibly brave-and having a boundary about it as you work thru it is perfect. Thank you for doing this. I want you to know I’m going to use this video to help teach my children these rites and implement them on a new family workout routine for our whole family. My husband is gone a lot and everyone has different fitness abilities on my house (including an adult autistic with low tone in his abdomen and three people with knee issues). This will be perfect as everyone can do it in their own time, and for their own abilities and can feel confident about it. Thank you for making that possible thru your vulnerability.

I'm not above wearing my workout clothes to bed so I'm already dressed for activity in the morning. Like you, I enjoy checking things off. I recently started keeping an agenda, something I hadn't done since retiring. I put EVERYTHING on it, make the bed, do the dishes, swim...It really keeps me motivated. And I rely heavily on my Apple Watch. This might not be for everyone, and at first, I thought it was childish for my watch to show that I'd completed x amount of activity, but turns out, it really inspires me to reach my goal and track my activity. I never enjoyed team sports but I do like challenging myself.

I used to be a dancer. I let myself go - long story short, I lost 100 pounds (in my 60s) and joined CrossFit. I couldn't jump at all when I began (it was my forte as a dancer). Within months I could jump rope. I rediscovered my inner 10-year-old. I get it! Rediscovering that childlike joy in movement is an incredible feeling. Never want to let that go again! I've been at a standstill with my morning yoga practice -- basically not motivated AT ALL. But THIS!! Thank you for introducing me to this beautiful and dynamic practice. I'm about four days in an already noticing positive changes. The best part about being 49 years old is that I'm not attached to the NUMBER of exercises I'm doing but more interested in the quality of the excercises. That said, I'm happy right now at repetitions of 10, which starts to really kick in when I get to the last Rite (Two Dogs). Over the last year, I've been continually inspired by your honesty and encouragment in simplifying our belongings so we have more time and space for LIFE! Step by step, box by box, drawer by drawer we are getting there xo

I get up early enough for a 25 minute meditation before the gym. Never did I think I was a person who would get up to do things before work, but I enjoy it! Going to visit these 5 Tibetan rites, too. Thanks! Oh yeah, I can touch my toes. never been a problem for me.

Yay!!! I am so excited about this video! You are amazing all the time, no matter your weight, but making fitness a priority will make your life better for your whole life!! I am a personal trainer, so obviously I love exercise. But I am also a former binge eater, so I absolutely understand the struggle, especially when it comes to food and body image. Thank you for having the courage to share this!

Thank you for sharing your experiments and vulnerability. I’ve struggled for so long with so many things and most books and videos, while possibly inspiring, end up making me feel like I’m failing. But not your content. Watching your videos makes me feel seen. There’s a lightness, compassion and flexibility that feels unique to me. I’ve slowly started to declutter (in my maximalist way) and now am inspired to figure out my barriers and try a morning routine. Thank you. ❤

I did the 5 Tibets for many years every morning and since I moved to another continent and live another lifestyle I stopped doing 5 Tibets, Yoga and qi Gong. My body showed me recently in the most painful way that I need to exercise. And so I started in the morning in bed with yoga and thanks to your video I remembered the 5 Tibets. It's all about doing. Thank you.

Thank you Marissa. I'm 67 and although I walk daily and am recovering from a hip replacement, I think these are exercises I can do! I have been looking for more full body work. Currently we are in an RV at our kids in Alaska for 2 months... talk about lack of movement! I will be doing the challenge with my 35 year old daughter when I return to Utah in Sept. You INSPIRED us both! I laughed at your jiggly bits. I had a friend that says, "You can tell the age of a woman by the length of her sleeves." HA I'm to elbow length now! Take care. 🥰

Thank you for sharing, and for what you didn't share lol. I had a serious illness and five surgeries in 2020 and 2021. After I recovered at age 67 I was in horrible physical condition after going from bed to chair for almost two years. I couldn't seem to get strength back and was embarrassed to go to a gym. I saw an article about a medical exercise program at a local hospital and signed up and the improvement in six months was amazing. Once you feel that change it frees you. It made me sad to think of how many people go through something like I did and just say well this is how I am now, or how many women turn 40 and just say I don't have the energy I used to have. We need to fight it. You are so amazing.

To answer your questions: 1) my morning routine is coffee, almonds, and dark chocolate; 2) at 59 I can easily touch my toes, even put my hands flat on the floor while standing; but I cannot take credit for it. Some are born with good eyesight or something. I was born limber. *Never* would I exercise in front of another person. And you are 💯% correct: if exercise isn't fun, it ain't gonna happen.

I just started doing this, and I don’t know how but I already created a habit without even trying. I have been deeply sedentary for years, mixed with the normal stressful job. Inside an unhealthy spiral. But in less than a week I wake up rested and sleep deep as I have never ever done. I wasn’t expecting any change and least of all within just days. Thanks for the video, you inspired me and now I feel something is already changing within me ❤

Congrats on entering your 40s. I loved my decade of 40s and it seems that a lot of women enjoy their 40s. I hope you find this next decade rewarding and enjoyable. Also, I've started the process of getting rid all but the things that are essential or meaningful to me- your videos were the first I saw on this topic and have motivated me to take action. I hope that by the end of summer, my home has a fresh and lighter feel to it. Fortunately, my home in Asia is not large, but still I've managed to fill every nook and cranny with things that I haven't used or looked at in a long time. I retire from my teaching position in 5 years and I want to be investing my free-time between now and then on my hobbies including travel, fitness and learning new things and figuring out the next chapter of my life before that chapter is upon me. Getting rid of things that don't add value to my life seems like a positive move into the future. Thanks again for the inspiration and knowledge.

I just want to say thank you so much for introducing this to me. Since I first saw your video I’ve been doing them everyday for the last 2 to 3 months now. I do a strenuous workout twice a week, but I have always wanted something simple I could do everyday. Doing the my “daily 5” now has become a wonderful habit for me and has increased my physical fitness. I’ve added to it some flexibility and balance as well and am amazed at the progress in such a short period of time. I’ve come to the conclusion that consistency trumps intensity. I introduced this to kids that I teach PE and other adults- who have thanked me. I just want to thank you for starting something in me that has become such a gift! 🙏☺️

Hello! I live in the Colorado Rockies high country. We also don't have AC because we don't need it more than a week or so a year. This year we installed a whole house fan that we run overnight to seal in the cool air. Before the fan, inside temps would get close to 90. Now it maxes out around 75. Not really related to your video but may be something to consider. It was a game changer this summer! Great video 😊

Thank you again! Have a wonderful week! 😊💖🙏

Thank you so much for this. This morning I woke up and decided randomly to stretch and it felt so good. I don't exercise, and I am overweight after being thin for most of my life (baby #2 turned 4 in February, and I hadn't lost a pound since his birth!). I started feeling pretty bad recently but only decided today I NEEDED to start somewhere. Then I came to KZfaq today and see this. And it is EXACTLY what I need to start. I get exercise induced hives so traditional exercise isn't something I am able to do so I've just put it off for years. I found myself a printable poster of the 5 rites, and printed a 30 day challenge tracker. I've got this! And my husband wants to join me, which will provide both of us with accountability.

Thank you for showing how to complete those exercises! I struggle to find motivation for yoga at home and can't afford studio prices atm. This looks MUCH more engaging. I turn 40 in August and have my own flappy bits I'm looking to get under control. BUT of course, you know I have to say... you're beautiful! inside and out. The Chinese word zen was derived from the Indian word ‘dhyan’ (female version - dhyana). The original intent of yoga was not for people to get exercise but for achieving enlightenment. And there are several versions of it, many of which are not slow or whatever you said. Even elite athletes could not keep up with certain yoga practices or sessions. Many of these videos are available on yt. And another little nugget, the original form of marshal arts was developed by a yogi called Bodhi dharma who traveled to China to teach yoga and meditation but felt a need to come up with some kind of marshal arts practice to strengthen people up before they start true form of yoga and meditation.
