I think a lot of people misunderstand the term "zero waste". Its more about being sustainable and "thinking before you buy", than actually reaching absolutely zero waste. That is just not realistic, you have to eat and live. The eggshells and the applecore for example: Yes they produce waste BUT you can compost them, so they are totally fine. Please don't get frightened or frustrated by the term "zero waste", everyone can reduce their waste by just being a little more aware of what you buy and what you throw away everyday :)

I don't see why apple cores, skin, and egg shells would be considered trash? It's organic material, you can compost it! Lots of zero-waste people compost their food scraps. Also if I remember correctly you can feed worms egg cartons. But I agree in most cases it's considered waste. Ps. I know in like the last minute the people at the table said you could just compost the apple stuff but for most of the video it went on as if an apple's core was the most wasteful thing ever.

I really love this vid cuz my family and I are trying our best to be eco friendly. Idk if this shop is available everywhere but at least it's available in California. It's called No Waste and Haste. They sell groceries like flour, sugar, salt that you can fill in your own glass reusable jars. Go green!

Buy apples from the farmers' market. No stickers. Compost the cores, or better yet boil them with the syrup to draw out more of the pectin. Then compost. Make butter by getting cream in a glass bottle, putting it in a mason jar, and shaking it until it turns into butter. Return the bottle for a deposit or recycle. Go ahead and use eggs for an egg wash, just compost the shell. Take empty egg carton to a farmer to reuse. Zero waste.

Pectin, very useful for thickening, is found in the peel, core, and seeds. You can put those cores into water and reduce, then add the leftover syrup from the maceration and boil down to create a lovely liquid to go into the pie. Aluminum foil is recyclable AND reusable; wash and save for a bit of butter you want to save or use it as a lid for something else. The paper stickers are compostable! My grandmother used to take the extra dough, roll it out, and make "pie cookies". Sprinkle a bit of sugar on them, and you are good to go. Extra piecrust can also be frozen for later use.

She added literally no seasoning aside from a LIGHT sprinkle of cinnamon. You can tell it probably tasted very bland. I never seen someone make pie the way she did and instead of cutting the apples into smaller parts she just left it in big long slices. I don't think it tasted good. The dough is usually sprinkled with sugar and the apples usually have more seasoning with cinnamon, nutmeg and other stuff. Im struggling to understand why this is trending but then I realized it was because its featured on Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed can make a video of a horse taking a dump and it will still trend lol

You can use left over pie dough to make crust cookies! Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of the extra dough and bake it at the same time as the pie, then at the halfway mark take the cookies out and enjoy those while your pie is finishing :)

stickers on fruit are edible (in the USA at least). use the apple cores and stems in a compost so they are not "wasted." get the butter that comes in cardboard box with paper wrapping and save all the packaging for tinder material for a fireplace/fire pit. there you go, no waste
