With this Ikea makeover, I wanted to go for a very modern look. A friend of mine had recently got married, and they needed a new TV console for their home. The gold hinges and legs were picked to compliment some of the other modern furniture that they already own; I normally like to make my own legs rather than buying a set, but I personally dislike the look of wood that's painted gold.
My main concern going into this project was whether or not I would be able to attach all the hardware onto the piece, given how thin Ikea furniture can be. To account for this, I used drywall anchors before screwing. Fortunately, the anchors were reliably strong, and I had no issues with any hardware being weakly attached.
Hope you enjoy the video :)

Andy -- I could spend the rest of my natural born days working at it and still never be able to do something as outstanding as this console. You are one seriously talented individual. But I DO know a bit about filmmaking, having spent 20+ years writing and producing television. Your videos are nothing short of magnificent. Inventive, creative, original, engaging. Restful. And thoughtful. Thanks for all your hard work -- on BOTH fronts!

That tip is gold to me. I was just about to use a couple of Kallaxes to make a right-angled tv unit/storage shelf/side table and this will seriously simplify the job for me. I am not ambitious enough to attempt the likes of these exquisite doors, so I will just use the ikea baskets and add similar legs.

In case you didn't know, a little tidbit I picked up working in a paint shop, for home garage type painting, a trick is to keep the floor wet, it makes dust stick to it and not blow around, thus not end up blowing onto the paint. Also, I do love how you film these, they're relaxing to watch, and kinda indulges my weird ADHD brain somehow. :P

Watching for the 2nd time. I cannot believe you got the flutes to line up, just wow. Also a comfort to know that even you can forget, or overlook something. I would have gone crazy trying to attach the hinged door onto the carcass, and still have wound up with crooked doors. And I have never seen those hole marker things. That gives me hope. It would have been great to show the doors open and close set to music. Probably a terrific pain to stage and edit that though. Even without your sense of humor, your vids are entertainment plus. Pretty sure your vids are the only ones I actually LOL'ed ever. Thanks. Hey maybe when you get a million subscribers you could shut down your day care center?

8:43 I used to have this issue with my gate latch. The changing temperature from winter and summer causes the frost heave and them not to align over 4 seasons. My solution was to mount the "male" end on a thin plywood plate and then reposition with screws on different areas of the plywood plate as needed. Usually in the spring. Some years I don't have to adjust it, but it's easy since the plywood plate has many areas in which to screw in new holes to match the latch.

I’m so happy that they open too down bc personally I am SICK of nicking my shin or ankle on these low free swinging doors 😤😭🫶🏾♥️. They are the cabinet version of stepping on legos 😂 and I grew up with the big old bulky entertainment stands that my parents held onto for 40+ years. I have a scar wrapped around my ankle from a door popping off it’s creaky hinge, I unfortunately tripped on its rugged edges in the middle of the night as a child smh haha!
