Fox liked to put members of their "actors' stable" into roles in musicals. But unless the person was a trained musician their parts were usually dubbed. Romero's playing was done by Chummy MacGregor and Gleason's was by Doc Goldberg. Even star Lynn Bari's singing was dubbed by Pat Friday.

The depressing thought is that they were a "finishing act" because of racism. If you look at this one and, say, Chattanooga Choochoo, you'll notice there's a clean break in the music right before the brothers come on and it sounds almost like the music could've ended there. That was to allow southern state censors to cut out their scenes so audiences wouldn't have to see Black performers. For the same reason, the brothers were usually hired as guest stars, so their names wouldn't have to appear on the bill in southern states, and all of Glenn Miller's band on film were white.

So he knew Glenn Miller, T.Dorsey and that kind of music forbidden by the fascist regime and he loved it very much. Precision dancing at its finest. The incomparable Nicholas Brothers were celebrated by their peers as the Greatest! They set the standard for excellence in themselves and for those that will eventually follow. Now, the Nicholas Brothers are “Dancing with the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.” God bless

I love this music. It makes me proud to be an American. But maybe I'm being nostalgic and stupid, as US music now is pure shit. Somethings gone wrong with this country.

I learned that the blonde girl singing with the Modernaires is actually actress Betty Hutton's older sister Marion. Talent runs in the family, I guess :)

Wow. I knew Marion Hutton sang with the Modernaires, but I never knew about the family connection. Or resemblance-I actually thought Betty Hutton was in this movie. Funnily enough, they share a mugging style too. Thanks for the eye opener.

February 12, 2014: From the 1963 graduating class of Paschal High School, Fort Worth, Texas--Happy 100th birthday to a great Paschal alumnus, the late Gordon Lee ("Tex") Beneke! You and Mr. Miller and all your associates did so much to boost the morale and determination of so many Americans during one of our country's darkest times. It was our parents' generation, and in memory of our parents and all other members of their generation--The Greatest Generation--who served the cause of liberty in so many ways, military and civilian alike, during and after that time, so that we might have the opportunity to enjoy the lives we have lived, we proudly salute you! Your wonderful music sounds as good today as ever!

Here in Dallas Texas 2020 I loved what you said you hit the nail on the head! I'm loving that I found this clip from the movie. My father and his brothers served their part in WWII. I grew up listening to big band music and I wished I could've seen Glenn Miller's band but I did get to take my dad to see Count Basie and his band. My dad said he saw him at Radio City Music Hall in 1945 he acted like a kid he was so excited I was able to do a meet and greet with pictures and autographs. I'm so glad this is the extended clip that included the amazing dancing of the Nichols Brothers.

And the fellow we see in 1:05 in this video is CESAR ROMERO who played the JOKER on "Batman" in the 1960's!

You are so right he was the best Joker and did you notice Jackie Gleason playing the Base? Two great kings of comedy. I never knew either one play a musical instrument. I guess I need to read their Bios to find out what else they did in their lives.

I went to college in Kalamazoo (Western Michigan University, class of 1973). I just happend to see that this film was on KZfaq but forgot that I had heard this song was the movie's finale. What a spectacular finale it was. I can see why it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song. What a combination: the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Modernaires , Tex Beneke and the fabulous Nicholas Brothers.
