Oh, I really feel you with the SD SPI thing. It's a huge headache for the Flipper Zero, as even reputable manufacturers like Samsung and SanDisk can sometimes leave it out, so we literally can't recommend any SD card brand, as they may remove SPI at any moment. This sucks :(

Was it only the case for SDHC/SDXC, or was it also the case for plain SD? I mean, it would be fair if SDHC cards wouldn't support SDI, but plain SD that were only used for compatibility reasons still should, right?
@astrrra
@astrrra Жыл бұрын
@FlameRat_YehLon The issue with plain microSD cards is that they're incredibly rare these days, we haven't seen them being sold anywhere apart from alibaba/aliexpress, and this video shows that those are not the places that we want to recommend. The SPI protocol is still a part of the standard and should be included in SDHC and later cards.
@FlameRat_YehLon

@@astrrra If that's the case, then maybe don't try to look for SD cards, look specificaly for "SPI compatible SD cards" instead. I'm pretty sure there are still commercial products that uses the SPI protocol, thus sourcing for this specific need should still be possible. I've even seen sellers that specifically sells eMMC cards despite those were likely rarely used and the seller claims it to be not compatible with most SD devices despite being the same shape. Basically, when something can't be assumed any more, don't assume it any more.

@@FlameRat_YehLon To be fair the problem is that the SD Card market has shown itself to be a complete wild west that no party private or public has shown the willingness and ability to enforce accurate descriptions in the slightest. This began with just throwing up listings for SKU's where they basically randomised the capacity value in the description. It is not spreading to the point that sellers clearly have the perception (apparently correctly) that they can misleadingly represent any and all features of the device and not be subject to proportional and effective sanctions. Without enforcement laws that prohibit generating thousands of SKU's by rolling the dice to select search keywords for the description are not effective and this seems to be pretty much what the market has devolved into, the descriptions are random combinations of words relying on the sheer number of variations to get orders for at least some of them and fulfil them with whatever cheap crap they have on hand regardless whether any part of the description actually matches the features of said product.

This is what I don't like about "mediocre" online stores, because many people believe that just because they offer "protected shopping" that means you can buy literally anything, even if it is EVIDENTALLY questionable, and they will still give you your money back. I understand that stores like Amazon can be more expensive, be more short of product variety and even present their own problems when it comes to asking for returns, but at least they have a reputation to defend, while others, as they don't sell and sometimes don't even send any product at all, see it very easy to wipe their hands at the first opportunity they get. That's why I always recommend using this type of stores as little as possible, and only if the buyer has enough time to fight with the technical support to ask for a refund.

What software or hardware do you need to do that? I’ve always wondered what was going wrong with SD cards and Rpi, spy cameras, dash cams, etc
@MorgothCreator
@MorgothCreator Жыл бұрын
@@frep420 RPI's, spy cameras, dash cameras does not use the SPI interface, the SD interface does not need initialisation, the uSD start in SD interface mode, in order to switch to SPI mode you need to provide 80 clock's with the chip select high at ~400khz( some cards accept higher speeds for that, some are very strict and don't ), after that you need to set it up, get the supported mode and maximum speed, after that you can increase the SPI speed to desired speed not exceeding the card SPI speed, they can work in 1 ( SPI ) and 4 bit's ( SD ) or 8 bits for eMMC memories that use the same SD protocol ( I seen in the protocol that they can support the 2bit SD protocol as well ), but for SD cards SPI is mandatory supported, the same for SDHC, I don't know for SDXC but is possible to have the SPI IP as well. Some time because of some issues in uSD initialisation to use SPI interface when the speed is changed from initialisation speed to transfer speed something can go wrong and the lib can't access the uSD content, even if the lib indicate that the uSD has been initialised successfully. Another thing is that if they are 4GB SDHC, most probably they are the first batch of SDHC cards that they have issues on SPI initialisation because they use the first SDHC IP that came out immediately after SDHC specifications were out, they were the most problematic cards from the SPI interfacing point of view 🤷‍♂

SD cards should partition like mechanical drives. But they have quirks sometimes. Instead of taking a risk, I guess I would have made the minimal changes to the partition by simply deleting the second and leaving it blank. If it worked, there would be 2 GB at least.
@AndrewMerts
@AndrewMerts Жыл бұрын
There wasn't a second partition, it was left blank. It sounds like the malDuino doesn't read partition tables and just uses it as a raw bunch of bytes. The partitioning to 2GB and the labelling on the card is probably because these were 4GB cards that failed QC due to bad NAND. You can overprovision SD cards and SSDs by just leaving space unpartitioned. This is sketchy coming from a seller like that as there are tools to properly resize the logical size so that the card reports to the host the 2GB size instead of 4GB but if you try to write it all you'll lose data. This is similar to the common SD card scam where people change the size and labelling of a 1GB SD card and have it report back 512GBs.

Regarding badly written phishing emails, there was a research by Microsoft proving that using bad English is actually *beneficial* to the scammers. The reason is that it works as a way of selecting their victims: who falls for the badly written email, is less likely to understand what's going on even after the fact, and so it's less likely to report the stolen money to the real company (e.g. PayPal or your bank) in a timely fashion. This means that the real company doesn't take action immediately to stop the phishing campain, so it can last longer.

I feel your pain when it comes to buying thing on chinese sites like AliBaba and Aliexpress. You have to triple check and triple ask what are the specifications of the thing you buy because you can't assume anything and doing things like that is a common scam on those sites. Always ask and check as much as possible before ordering AND RECORD yourself analyzing the package and then opening it in case the product was damaged and/or different product was sent to you.

I am coding as a hobby in C# but I can't even remember how to write a Hello World app in C++. As a POC I went into github to find a simple C++ project. Pasted to ChatGPT a C++ code snippet and asked it to explain what the program does and to rewrite it in C# - It gave me a an explanation of how it worked and gave me some c# code. I did like two changes to the output and it worked as intended. My test isn't something incredibly hard but I can only imagine the potential for teaching if treated carefully.

So these cards worked for the 4 GB in SD mode, just not SPI? That's really tricky. Most people won't care either at the consumer level. Although considering that AliBaba tends to do a lot of business/OEM work, it seems a bit more risky, since many buyers may indeed want the SPI mode.

I was able to use chatgpt to write a script that checks a server for vulnerable samba versions. It first had bad version checking ($ver < 4.1.3) but when I told it to use major minor and patch parts, it worked. I then asked it to write an ansible playbook using that script to create a list of vulnerable machines in my inventory for me. ChatGPT is insane, and it is only the beginning. While I do believe AI will hit a sort of plateau sometime in the future, once it gets access to the internet, or we make a general intelligence, it will be able to do pretty much anything.

I really like Chat GPT. I had a bit of a cooking accident last week, so can’t really type well for about a week, and I needed a script written in a hurry. Normally I would’ve sat down and just written it, but without being able to type, it’s very difficult. I was going to dictate it to someone to have them type it out for me, but I realized why not try to get the AI to do it for me, and see what happened? Within 10 minutes, after only three tweaks, I had a usable script. I just use the speech to text feature on my computer to give the AI commands in standard English.

We used to use Alibaba before we grew large enough to hire a purchasing agent in Yiwu, which was a game changer. Having someone in China, with high quality standards, who can actually pick up the product really cuts down on fraud. Alibaba is beyond worthless when it comes to seller protection. Even if you are a “platinum buyer” We only use a credit card with a liberal chargeback policy when we are forced to buy on Alibaba. It is so much easier to deal with the credit card company and they are more focused on keeping their customer, you, happy than the seller.

It's the only time I've ever had a problem. I think in the 20 years that I've been dealing with memory cards I've had one card go bad. Needless to say I have quite a collection of cards and no longer use anymore but they work so I don't throw them out. Never know when you need a lower capacity card for something. I hate throwing away things that work

ChatGPT is optimized for dialogue and, therefore, the first fine tuning stage uses data in dialogue form. however between ChatGPT and model text-Davinci-003; The process for training both engines and the model architectures are identical: fine-tuning an instruct model + reward model + PPO

I had problems with initializing sdhc as spi, they needed some quirks before they started to work reliably. afair they needed more time and more than 74 clocks ticks to initialize. maybe it's the case? but.. you wanted non-hc cards, which indeed are faster (i mean hc's are slower when using them sector by sector and 512 bytes, but they are faster with larger blocks)
@jaro6985

Yes thats definitely a possibility if they just plugged it in and said "oh it doesn't work". I've tried a number of microSD and from what I recall all worked with SPI (even the obscure brands), some needed an additional delay before responding as you say. If you google "How can I initialize/use SD cards with SPI?" there is a good stackxchange post with tons of tips.

Well ... instead of trying to come up with fake emails, scammers could just use the same text as legitimate emails to get people to click their links. like send them a receipt that they paid a couple hundred dollars on some random thing not even mentioning that there is something suspicious with the payment. They will click on it and enter their login details instantly.

I've heard that phishing emails are usually poorly written intentionally. I don't understand why that would be but I've heard it has something to do with people who are dumb enough to fall for a poorly written scam will fall for a more intelligent scam down the road whereas someone who may fall for a well written email once will not be easily fooled again. So you get more money by getting the same poor fools over and over. Idk how true this is but there ya go

I either write my own mail template when looking to test users for phishing awareness, or look online for original examples of genuine emails when gaining a foothold. The harder part is that SPF, DKIM and DMARC are normally well-configured for the most attractive service providers.
