I had a toy sand when I was a child that didn't get wet. There was some tools to use to let it into the water and after you got it out it was dry and sandy again. Only in the water it kept together as a kind of clay, so you could build things under the water. Don't know what happened to it but perhaps mom through it all away because it was too messy.

Silica aerogel isn't chemically very hazardous, but easily reduces to irritant dust, or on water just goes from floating to disintegrating as the pores saturate. Fun fact: Humans do not have a wetness receptor in our nerve system. When we feel wet, what we actually felt was temperature difference and we associated that as wet, rather than wetness itself. That's why during the winter we often have problem figuring out whether our washed clothes are still wet/damp or are they just cold. So when he said that he doesn't feel wet, what actually happened was that his body didn't feel the temperature difference between when he was inside and outside the pool. He would've felt the same sensation if had used a warming gel instead of aerogel.

@ayastorm55073 ай бұрын
Not completely though. Wet feels different on our skin compared to dry skin and it's not just temperature difference. But that's resistance and air movement. So his hair not being wet would be a big difference. Even if you were to make the water and air the same temperature (which sort of makes it feel like you're not wet as well) there's still a difference. But yeah. It's fascinating how "wet" is a combination of sensations based solely off of constant comparison vs pretty much any other sensation humans experience 😂😂😂

I seriously want the wise old elder of some fantasy movie to basically do this. The character only appears in dreams(which can easily hanwave the weird wavy filter, and hair waving about in the currents) that will be seen when the cameras film the scene underwater. He'll wear a worn and tattered loincloth and look dishevelled and borderline insane, but filled with all the universe' wisdom and guiding the protagonist. The actor will be coated in this, anchored at the bottom, and simply mouth the words(which will be filled in later in ADR with James Earl Jones voice(if he's still alive..... I'm pretty sure I'm gonna Google amd see he's already passed.... although AI recreation is a thing now so....)

I accidentally did something similar once . My hand slipped, and i ended up pouring a high index bottle of embalming fluid on my hand. My hand was hydrophobic for about a month. Didn't feel good when it happened, but it was crazy to submurge my hand in water and pull it out dry. Made for an amusing month.

You realize that embalming fluid is highly carcinogenic. You should have gone to the hospital for treatment to remove it. At the University of Miam, some of the ingredients of embalming fluid were always labeled CARCINOGENIC.
