So many kids would benefit from learning a trade instead of been stuck in education until there 18 coming out and still not knowing what they want to do. It's not all about money but let's be honest how many kids are going to go on and earn anywhere near that in an office job .

You did well you're a natural at it, as far as the kids are concerned when your at that age you are 80% all nerves in situations like that. Its very difficult to not to let the nerves affect you by being put on the spot with other people around you at that age so they did excellent as well.

Great to see you encouraging new blood...I see myself 30 years ago in you and remember to great times and money I made. I'm 58 and been out of the bricklaying game for 30 years but nice to see your story. I remember building 3 bed houses DPC to Wall plate including 3" blocks upstairs rooms for £2500...my 2+1 gang did one in 9 working days including a single detached garage. I moved into commercial gas and now I teach which I love...Keep up the great work my friend.

wicked stuff mate. out of school 10 years myself and did vocational learning around the same ages as these kids and my peers did construction, bricklaying etc. i did engineering but having tradesmen coming in is a game changer for these lads. im sure the teachers are great but something about someone from the real world coming in and giving you a few hours showing you trade secrets or skills you learn on the job is inspiring af. very wholesome bro love it

Big props for making the sole purpose of this class on bricklaying and only mentioning the youtube channel as something you do on the side. If you had revealed how big your channel was to them, you can imagine the only thing on their mind would have been youtube orientated and not about bricklaying. I'm not a bricky but I did a year back when I was in college and enjoyed it to be fair. I just had other dreams I wanted to follow but I am really glad that I learnt a trade. This gave me some great memories watching this video!

Takes me back to my school days in the early 80s. We all had a go at plumbing, carpentry, electrics, brickwork even lead flashing. I took up electrics and was very fortunate to retire on a good pension at 55 (I’m now 57) Hopefully some of these kids will choose the trade path. Good on you Charlie.

This is what school should be encouraging. I did a talk at a school about the opportunities in the motor trade, from being a mechanic through body work , electronics, motorsport sales etc. At the end the teacher said, "well that just shows if you are not good enough to go to Uni there are well paid jobs out there. I managed not to explode until the kids had gone out and then told the teacher what I thought of her attitude to those who use their hands and how using them is not a failure. When I told her my salary package she had no idea what the real world earning of trades. You taking it easy can make 750 a day on a good day yet she would look down her nose at you. We need more trades and less uni educated media studies and the like who end up 60K in debt and no job at the end of it. Your delivery was spot on for the kids

Well done Charlie,needs to be more trades going into schools,so we can get our trade base up and running again to give our youngsters something to work towards and have goal to for its hard at the beginning of an apprentice,I was a painter and decorater for years started my apprenticeship in 1982

I'd love to teach Bricklaying because at 60 years old I've kind of had enough. But my Bro is a teacher in a college and he's showed me the hoops you have to jump through and the courses you need and forms you have to complete and it's horrendous. There's so many kids out there that would benefit from old timers who have the skills, knowledge and experience needed to show kids whether a particular job is for them or not. Something should be done. Well done anyway Chaz.

I really respect how your being straight up and honest with the lads and telling them how it is year round and your personal experiences/feelings because I find it is always a lot to take in a first when your new to a trade and it can be mind blowing all the good & shit parts of it & the money. I started working for my brothers heating specialist company around 4 years ago at around age 17 and at first I couldn’t believe how shit money I was on and also how long the days could be. All the different weather and being in shitty uncomfortable situations like being up in a loft or under a park home in 40 degree heat sweating like anything 😂 but after a few years you start to pick up a good range of skills and it makes it a lot more interesting and you start getting more respect for your work and learn that a lot of the thing happening is just the job and realistically you just gotta get on with it or not do it ultimately.

Top man and woman giving your time up for these kids. One part you say about if your no good at bricklaying it will get picked up straight away and you wont get paid this doesn’t apply to stonework on these sites the amount of rough and unacceptable work just gets passed off.

Well done that man. keep the tradition going. It may of not been for every student there, but it only takes a few of them to again pass on the knowledge and skills.

Love this bloke, was laying bricks in the 90's then went into kitchens (after the eastern european came living in caravans taking our jobs). The governmet should pay this guy! Doing more for economy than any mug sitting in parliamnet in a suit!

Interesting at 33:00 about their routes into work. Back in the day (early 80s) it was more simple, councils still had DLOs, and put apprentices through 3 years of block release. I did my C&G at Stockwell College of Building & FE at Vauxhall, London.

This is brilliant. Good on you mate had the chance myself back in school to do the multi trade course once a week and although I never went down any of them paths it put me in good stead for the trade I’m in now, but can definitely say having someone come in like this would have been much more motivational for me at the time for many reasons, keep up the work geez

21:48 This is probably what will stick with these lads a lot longer than any of the standing around talking bits. Point out what happens, tap, scrape, pull level to check. All looks so simple, but when they try it, it isn't. And then when they get it right after a few goes they get the reward and satisfaction.

Brilliant video. Too many kids leave school without seeing possible careers that engage them. I wish more masters of their trade would do this, showing kids how academic stuff can help in the real world. Great point about getting more girls into the trades too.

i was the same when i first started, worried that you will do a bad job but at the end of the day it can be taken down and rebuilt your learning so just take your time and get the technique down then you can go from there! once your comfortable with the tools you will feel that it flows much smother and in turn enables you to lay better bricks 👍

I've been a plumber for 30 years... even I learned a little something from this video!😂 If you can have the time to really develop a class structure you would be onto something starting your own school. You had some shy students at first but they got into it more when you relaxed more and they clearly enjoyed it. Top class class chap. Keep it up youre a natural with apprentices! (Take mine he needs a good teacher😂😂)

Well done Charlie. I can remember being a teenager and feeling like life had its foot on my head. The fact that anyone can get a pile of bricks ( some sand + a bag of hydrated lime) practice laying to a line. The fact that Nothing can stop you progressing I think is empowering for young men. I’d recommend 6 months at a skill center learning to lay bricks to anyone 👍

Bricklaying looks so enjoyable I’m only 15 and dropped out of school but it’s so interesting I’d love doing this for work from what I’ve seen in this video but it probably isn’t as simple as what I’m seeing

That's brilliant. Must take allot of patience to teach young builders like this, it must be very intimidating for the youngsters to see you do it with such ease. Also it's good for them to have a laugh doing it. In my opinion this what you where doing is the best way to teach. 😊
