I'm an Anglican who loves and values the Anglican church; so naturally it's deeply saddening for me to see the Church of England (the 'mother church' of Anglicanism) turn away from God's Word as it pertains to human sexuality. This feels like a major L for the advancement of God's Kingdom because if the COE will not submit to God then their ministry will not be blessed. It will continue its slow decline unless its leaders - Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and the rogue bishops - repent of their decision and submit to God. I can't see how any other outcome is possible.
I should say that I don't envy Welby his position right now - it's something of a poisoned chalice and I can't imagine how difficult it must be - but in trying to please everyone he is pleasing no one. It's clear from Scripture what decision needs to be made, and it's up to the him and the bishops to make it.

Thanks for this brilliant talk. In 1997, after working four jobs (at the same time) to complete seminary, I was told that in order be ordained in the Episcopal church I would have to embrace the gay lifestyle and become an activist gay priest. My sponsoring priest did not support me and my parish did not support me. I withdrew from the process and searched for a way to fulfill my calling. When I turned to the conservative leaders looking for help, I was pegged as a trouble maker and my ordination process was put on hold for 11 years. I never got ordained, and have had to pursue my vocation outside the church. I have watched my church, the Anglican church, disintegrate around the world. I have again warned my friends here that it was coming, and the consequences in the UK would be much worse than other places. Thanks Andy for speaking clearly. When I was your age there was no one speaking like you and the others who are using the internet wisely to clearly speak the truth in love. Keep up the good work.

That’s wild to hear that this was happening as early as 1997 (you’ll cringe to hear that I was born in 1997!), and it’s sad to hear that this was a block to your ordination. It’s good to hear that you still pursued ministry in whatever way you could though, and didn’t become too cynical and disillusioned to continue. Thanks for the encouragement, the kind comments of people like yourself are always encouraging to me.

@@tony1685 I think it’s a stretch to call in apostasy, especially when there’s such a strong and early precedent of believers observing Sunday as the sabbath. Jesus appeared to his disciples on a Sunday, the day of Pentecost (ie the birth of the Church) took place on Sunday, and in Revelation 1:10 John uses the phrase “the Lord’s day” - possibly referring to Sunday given that he didn’t call it “the sabbath”. Also, Jesus says the sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath; so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to practise sabbath observance on a different day. Those in ministry work on Sundays, so for me personally my sabbath is a Monday.

@@AllThingsTheology As Jesus brought the new covenant through his passion, death and resurrection, He also changed the rules of the game so to speak. We as Christians do not observe Jewish laws or eating habits. To cherrypick the Sabbath as the highlight of disobeying Gods law is absurd. Keep the Lords day Holy and hopefully the other 6 days as well.

@@tony1685 Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? Matthew 12:1-5 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:18 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Hopefully not Roman Catholic brother. I'm hoping you've reclaimed the true meaning of Catholic meaning Global Church of Christ. I understand even less why a born again believer would be happy hiding in the RC apostate model with butchered 10 commandment, an unbiblical Apostle Peter replacement and all that guff about buying blessings off dead uber Christians that your warped denomination view as having 'more than enough' good works to spare them judgement! What was the reason for Jesus' atonement for our sin then? They might be dead but the RC church was dead first! Long live the Global Catholic Church of Christ!

As a Roman Catholic I'm looking with great respect at what is Happening in the Church of England. I find very brave people like you who have courage to witness their faith in the Truth of Christ. Let's pray for each other the Holy Spirit because our church leaders be converted to the gospel of Jesus and lead our churches to perfect unity in the love of Christ. There is no point in dividing Christians into conservatives and progressives: either we are Christians or we are not.

An old humorist said there are only two kinds of people, those who divide people into two groups and those who do not. (Irony). There may be conservatives who are not born again but still biblically know with head knowledge many true doctrines. And, there may be liberals who are not (yet?) saved and are not yet seeing the error of being blown around by every wind that comes along. Jesus Himself said He came to divide (Luke 12:51).

I ended up leaving the Church of England due to the inovations which were coming in (in my case women bishops were the last straw). I took refuge in the Orthodox Church where I found the saturation in scriptures in every service and a loyalty to trodition and practice within the church which can be traced back to the first cenury and the practtice of the Apostles. I do say anyone has to convert but at least come and see and experence with an open mind the liturgical services of an Orthodox Church once. Thank you for this video. As an Episcopalian in the United States, I really think if we want to reclaim the Church for Christ, we must do it from the ground up. Luckily we still have a few moderately orthodox dioceses left, and lots of orthodox parishes. If those on the top of the food chain will not preach the Gospel nationally, it's up to us to do it locally. We will save souls and eventually, as the liberal branch of the church implodes, we'll win out. What province of the Anglican Communion are you in, if I may ask?

Thanks for sharing. I know a little about the situation in the Episcopalian church in the US - my bishop would have a good relationship with Bishop Bill Love, former Bishop of Albany diocese. @@AllThingsTheology Fantastic, I love the Church of Ireland. A lot of the things I see in Ireland are a breath of fresh air, with great men of the faith like Bishops David McClay and Ferran Glenfield making it to senior positions. Bishop Bill Love was one of the Communion Partner bishops before his trial, and I am in a communion partner diocese. All of them backed him during his trial. I believe my own bishop was one of the eight from TEC who re-affirmed Lambeth 1998 1.10 at the Lambeth Conference last year. That may not seem like a lot, but if the Church in Wales or the Scottish Episcopal Church had eight bishops who signed the re-affirmation, they would be a different churches entirely! I also hear that the finalization of the Same Sex Blessings in England has been pushed back until November. Two months ago, an image of a wall of sticky notes with the bishops' concerns about LLF written on them were leaked. The Bishop of Rochester has also recanted his endorsement Same Sex Blessings. I am cautiously optimistic that this may possibly be the Holy Spirit inclining the hearts of the English bishops to realize how destructive LLF is, and while I am not holding my breath that they will totally recant, apologize, and repent, crazier things have happened in the church before, and our God is a God of miracles. God is not finished with the Western provinces of the Anglican Communion, as the Church is not an institution, but wherever the Word is faithfully preached and the Sacraments are administered. He may remove the lampstands from many parts of His church, but wherever those two things happen, even if it is under the oversight of false teachers, the Church will continue to exist.

I feel your pain - I live in Shropshire - my Vicar is Biblically sound...but what happens when he retires? I admire some elements of the Catholic and Orthodox churches - but feel at home in the traditional Anglican Church - so really don't want to leave and don't know what to do! I keep praying the church will turn back from casting away the "pearl of great price" that the saints endured great hardship to establish here in the past. I feel shame at what we have done with the spiritual inheritance our forefathers bequeathed us. My church was founded by St. Chad around 600 AD - how long before all his work is undone and Christ is mocked openly in the churches he founded - it breaks my heart! 'I wonder if, in Northern Ireland - God has maintained a more Godly remnant - as we are always told here in England that Northern Ireland is more religious. I used to weep over your religious conflicts in Northern Ireland - but maybe in a strange way it has protected you from the evil that is infecting the Church in England (here's hoping you don't reply and say 'Nope, it's just as bad here!". However, I'm encouraged that one who is young like yourself has such zeal for the Lord's authentic word and the courage to stand up for it - I hope you don't suffer in your job at the church for speaking out. I've noticed that many younger people are biblical believers and love the old liturgies (not just in our church - but with the Latin Mass in Catholicism) - so maybe God is showing us some seeds of hope in convicted young people like yourself. I pray you never loose this zeal and zest for the Lord - it took me many years to turn my back on Agnosticism and seek the Lord - I wish I had had the courage to do it when I was your age. God Bless you!

Thank you for this - it's very encouraging to hear, and I appreciate the support and kind words. I'm glad to hear that your vicar is Biblically sound, because it's testaments like that which keep me hopeful for the Church of England and keep me from writing the whole thing off. If your church is biblically sound then hopefully that would be unappealing to any prospective new vicars who are on the liberal side - though I guess it's still something to be praying about. And it's true that Northern Ireland is a lot more religious than the rest of the UK; as for what extent the Troubles impacted that, I can't say (though I wince a bit at the way it's framed as a 'religious conflict' because it was very much political and little to do with Christianity). There are a lot of Christians in Northern Ireland and it's really nice because it feels like a big community where everyone knows each other - or at least have mutual friends/acquaintances.

Blessing someone is NOT the same as condoning sin. When you take Holy Communion you are invited to come forward, those who don't feel able to share in bread and wine, receive a blessing. Nor is holding a wedding condoning the sin of the couple getting married, or there would be no weddings for all have sinned and fallen short of the Grace of God (Romans 3:23). Salvation is by grace not through good works lest any man may boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). Good works in Matthew 5:16 are to bring glory to the Father. The reason Jesus gave for His ministry is found in John 12:47. He came not to judge but to save. Indeed, in Matthew 7:1, we are commanded not to judge others. I know people accuse the Church of lowing its standards, and maybe it has in some areas; but I see its purpose is to reach out to the lost, just as Jesus reached out to you and to me.

@@User_Happy35 By that reasoning: stop all blessings. You need to read your bible more ! Go read Romans 3:23. We ALL need to repent. It is no worse than any other sin. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and Revelation 21:8 lists those that don't get to Heaven. Why are you singling out this sin ? Personal prejudice ? Jesus's raison d'etre is given in John 12:47. His ministry is to save. You cannot preach the word of God by closing the church door, on people you don't like. You are also in danger of breaching Matthew 7:1. This is nothing new. Jesus was asked why he hung around with a prostitute and a tax collector. The ordination of women bishops virtually guarantees that the Church of England will continue down the path that you lament. This is principally because their legitimacy as bishops depend entirely on the new theology which runs contrary to the traditional elements of Anglicanism. It is no coincidence that the dismantling of traditional Anglican beliefs have occurred practically in step with the ordination of women bishops. I am not saying that women priests and bishops are bad people or incompetent. What I mean is that realistically they will never ever change the system which legitimizes them and the new system is the one that you are speaking out against. It’s that simple. Obviously it’s not just women who want to change the Church of England. There are lots of men in the C of E who support the total overhaul and change of the church. Jesus had two instructions for us as Christians. The first is to have no other gods before him and to love one another and treat others as you want to be treated. We have lost this as the Christian faith. The god of the past and present day church is conformity and hierarchy. Certain people make me feel icky, so I don't want to be in fellowship with them. Certain people are more valuable than others. I doubt the Christian-hood of tolerate Christians. If you were different, how would you want to be treated in church? There was a time when my dark skin relegated me to the back pews, or a separate church building. There are still church communities where I am damned because I carry the curse of Ham. That isolation and degradation is still happening, only now the target is people who sexuality makes you feel uncomfortable. Jesus constantly rebuked the Pharisees of his time because they were more preoccupied with who paid what, who was doing what and the isolation of those outside of their community. He spoke to the Samarian woman, He saved the adulterous woman from the mob (he who is without sin, cast the first stone), He chose tax collectors and fishermen as his disciples, and he told the adults to let the children come to Him. He is a God of love and acceptance. The Christian church has lost this message. We are now the Pharisees who measure people's worth by our own yardsticks, not God's. Hierarchies are of the world. Man says that other man is not worthy. No one is 'not worthy' of Christian fellowship because of there origin, nationality, social constructed race, gender or sexuality. We are all God's children and equal in his eyes. I will follow Christ and accept everyone, as I would want to be accepted.

I agree with some of what you said, but I don't think it's entirely accurate to conflate ethnicity with sexuality. The Bible doesn't speak of skin colour or sexual orientation (these concepts are much more modern), but God does have rules about sexual relations - namely that they are to take place solely within the marriage covenant, which is defined as the lifelong union between one man and one woman. Also, Jesus gave us many more commands than the two you've named. You omitted that he told the woman caught in adultery, "neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin." And although he called Samaritan women, tax collectors and fishermen, he said to them "follow me." He took them as they were, but he didn't leave them as they were. They were to lay aside the things that God calls 'sin' and choose to follow the way of the cross.

@@richardmcgarvey6919 I don't think the "one baptism" phrase is contravened by the varying views on baptism, because although we differ in our understanding, it's all baptism into the Christian faith in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I think a helpful distinction (with baptism and with the rest of your question) would be between 'primary issues' and 'secondary issues'. Primary issues pertain to salvation (believing in the Trinity, the physical resurrection of Jesus etc), while secondary issues can be disagreed over (arminianism vs calvinism, views of the second coming etc). So if someone believes in the ordination of women, someone else might say "I think you're wrong, but you're still a Christian"; if someone claims the Christian label but doesn't believe in the Trinity, they can't be considered a Christian. So I would say that the fundamentals of Christianity are clear, and that which is debatable is secondary. Does that make sense?

I'll be very honest and write the truth. As more and more people will get scientifically educated, they will leave fairytale business. The Church of England doesn't need to fear from homosexuals but pagans, other religions and yes have an absolute dread from SCIENCE. I was born an Anglican and come from a family of clergymen who held high offices and were bishops and moderators but we all known that we are not practicing Christians by heart. I was a normal Christian, then a hardcore atheist, then became agnostic and now I would call myself a 'Cultural Christian.' The church is boring except the music and half of the things in the Bible are senseless and won't stand against rational and critical thinking. People need spiritual guidance and peace within their lives which church services can't provide. There are Gurus and neo-religious leaders and pep talkers from all religions and non-religious which are working in that direction, making simple things understandable for dumb masses but the Church is terrible at that. Tell me of one Anglican clergyman who is capable of giving a decent TedTalk? UPon this the Anglican church has acted like the colonial Brits and followed the 'Policy of Appeasement.' They want to include everyone and want to make everyone happy at the cost of sacrificing their doctorines, principles and canons. No other religion does that. You will offend someone or the other by holding a firm position so have a clear position and be prepared to face criticism. The church is hardly interested in knowing the well being of their communities but more interested in celebrating Earth Day or some other shitty functions and begging for funds (they just never have enough and for the right purpose). People need a personal healing which requires addressing issues like toxic work culture, unemployement, teenage depression, family values, breaking of marriages and curing the anxieties of communities related to these issues. It also needs to accept the well established proven theories of science and incorporate it into its values. The church stands at a point where either it can become a master of donkeys by telling lies, promising false hope and being an acting theatre (which indeed it is) like the Roman Catholics or reach out to people and go forward as a comforting hand and teach the art of living a good life. Things will change for worse in the coming years as more and more people from younger generations will stop believing completely in God and religions. That is why, this is the time for preparing a fertile land on which we can sow the seeds of cultural Christianity which evolves rather than becoming static and dies down. Change is the law of nature and if we don't want paganism, other faiths and conservative atheism to annihilate and destroy our faith, we need to act now and become better than them with all the tools we have. We need to make people understand specially in the West that Christianity has shaped our democracy, our politics and has given us the freedom we have and it form the foundation of our politics and scoiety rather than just ignoring it as a personal faith. If our society becomes more and more atheist with time then eventually after being atheist it will be replaced with some other faith as society cannot remain culturally hollow for long and humans have an evolutionary need for worship. This might give a rise to havign a worse faith than we keep complaining about. So, Christianity is not just about having a God or faith, it is also a deterrent against the downfall of this civilization.

I mean I personally don’t agree, but I’m not going to say that Roman Catholics aren’t Christians. I know Catholics who love Jesus and believe the gospel, but that’s true of Protestants too.

@Gloria Bult - I think you mean the Roman Catholic Church. It is people who believe in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice on Calvary that make up the "church". Thank goodness for Gods grace.

@@marcokite Christ did not start the Roman Catholic church or any specific denomination! Christ died , rose and ascended for ALL humankind. Christ is the Head of the Church, the true Church, which is ALL who believe and accept that Jesus Christ is Lord! The church is the People/Children of God . Whoever believes in Him will be saved and are part of His Church! Scripturally, denominations are not mentioned.
