Viv is 100% what I think of when I imagine a Grimsby supporter. He is the sort of bloke that comes to your house for a party, complains about the traffic on the way over, says the food is rubbish and doesn’t bring any drinks, wants the music turned down and stays after everyone else has gone home.

I remember being 8 yrs old and seeing maradona hand ball that goal in the net in 86 and me crying at the end of the game. 1990 gazza crying and us losing on penalties. 94 world cup not qualifying. Then 96 euros we should of won it. And all the times england let us down after going out in group stages and quarter finals. If england win i will be celebrating for days !!!! Viv can’t get excited about England winning the Euros. The only other time we’ve reached a final was in 1966, when we won. I’d take a guess he’s living at home and never had a girlfriend. He’s probably the kind of bloke who gets more of a reaction/excitement from seeing a puff of smoke billowing from the chimney of a steam train.

I am Irish and I thought some ROI fans were confused about England. But an England fan not being able to get excited for an England team getting to a final takes a biscuit. Using his argument you could say that England were the same in Euro 96 - Draw with Switzerland - beat Scotland - beat a disjointed Holland. Lucky to beat Spain in the QF by pens. World Cup 2018 - Lucky to be Tunisia an extra time goal - Beat a poor Panama well - and then lost to a good Belgium who had already qualified - beat Colombia on pens - beat average Swedish side - lost to a good Croatia side

tbf if you watched the game sober, it wasn’t amazing viewing was it, lot of crosses and set pieces, next to no free flowing football, so I get the point even though he’s communicated it like a div, best advice is to get on the bevs and at least try to enjoy a potential win

Viv is actually right that England has been underwhelming. Along with France, England have the best attacking talent and yet have looked like a poor version of a Jose Mourinho team. The way England play the double pivot is so limiting, Mount and Foden are playing the wrong positions, there is no real spark in the team except in individual moments when Sterling, Grealish turn up. England has gone this far bcos the opposition quality is really low. However, it is never a formality to play in a final bcos anything can go wrong on the day.

Getting to the final was over-exaggerated. At Euro96 England were in a virtual final Jason Cundy forgets. Getting to the final this year was always going to be the equivalent to getting to Euro96 semi's looking at our final opponent this year a strong team who had been the best team over the previous 6 European championships to have not won any of them. Very similar game as well to Germany vs England 1996, very early England lead, could've gone either way, finished 1-1 after 90 & 120mins, penalties, whoever wins will win the trophy, we lose.

England have played largely a patient game, but they have attacked and created changes. But comparing a team that play a handful of games together a year, who are in a 7 back to back games tournament, who never win anything and always get knocked out playing in any style, who's manager has deliberately started the team off slow, low energy so they have energy in the latter stages and can grow into the tournament. Comparing that to a club team is totally daft, especially when that club team have been successful and competed at the highest levels, playing good football with the previous manager and then you stink the joint out. I acknowledge though, the UK media in general are bunch hypocrites, liars and morons. When it comes to football they're all those things and more, they flip flop on things and twist their own logic. Ie Germany lost to France, Germany were done, when Germany beat Portugal, this was a great Germany side with 9 UCL winners in it, England beat them, this was a poor Germany side.lol. Point being they don't just do it to defend England. They use it to tare England down. If England lose, them forget any and all good things said, they turn on Southgate and the way he played. Just like that. But even if England win, something they'd be bloody lucky to do, suddenly they'll forget how crap we've been in tournaments since 66, and suddenly they'll be expecting England to be like Spain if 2010, or Brazil of 02. So in a nutshell, don't listen to the English media. Or American media. Or any media, when it comes to most things, least of all sport.

Italy in '06 were NOTHING like England in this Euro's? We have a back 5. At least when we play the better technical sides + have a cautious, reactive manager! Whereas in '06 they had Lippi(An attack-minded coach) a back 4 with 2 very attacking full-backs(Grosso + Zambrotta) 1 deep-lying playmaker(Pirlo) with another attacking midfielder(Perrotta) + a playmaker no10(Totti) in behind 2 forwards(Gilardino/Del Piero/Inzaghi + Toni) There's nothing wrong with the way England have played in this tournament, though perhaps they have been a bit too negative at times, but it's ironic in that if Italy did play like England, they'd be calling them the antithesis of football or Catenaccio from the dark-ages like they usually do! And if people think Italy play like England now? Cause a lot did before the Final, then I don't think they're stupid but perhaps are blind, biased or blindly biased! Our pundits were saying that the 2 more pragmatic teams were in the Final!? When Italy had the most shots + most shots on target out of any team in this Euro's! They make themselves look daft. Neville even watched Italy rip Switzerland apart + then put the blame wholly on the Swiss, then after Italy dominate us + possession for about 80 min's on our own patch + after we've already lost, they start to praise them as a good side who keep the ball. Hmm! Perhaps people are stupid?

I'm insulted for them + I'm English. But then to echo it is disturbing! Perhaps you should go rewatch the '06, 1/2 Final in Dortmund? Ya know, where Italy outplayed the German's on their own turf, similar to how they did us + in a stadium where Germany had never lost before! I hope Viv doesn’t do something stupid after Andy’s comments. Viv sounded depressed and down and maybe could do with some on the edge of your seat football which in fairness England don’t produce much of. I kind of agree with the caller. England has had an easy ride to get this far. They were mediocre in the group stages and They didn't beat Germany because they were good but because Germany were poor. Same with Ukraine. If England even get to the final I can see Italy thumping them.
