so agree!!! As a child I first heard of them in the mid 60's onwards, their material then absolutely different from what they made in later decades, but so worth checking that out too! I fell in love with their music and have been ever since.

No one came close simply, because they wrote all of their own songs and wrote and produced over 1000 songs for themselves and others. They wrote and produced songs for Dolley Parton, Celine Dion, Kenny Rodgers, Barbara Streisand, and many many others. They were very much underappreciated but I believe that they are greater known and appreciated now than they were then because of people like you and thousands of others who have discovered them. To answer one of your questions, back in the 70's everyone listened to the radio and bought albums. That's how groups were promoted. Although the Bee Gees were known for their disco hits for me, their greatest music was sung in the 60's, 80's '90s, and in 2003 For Whom the Bell Tolls, is unforgettable. You really must listen to Fanny Be Tender With My Heart, Jive Talking, and Tragedy just to name a few. Earth, Wind and Fire is my second favorite group after the Bee Gees.

I'm 75 yo and their music brings tears to my eyes because it takes me back to the times in which they were sung! I've had a wonderful life with my beautiful wife of 54 years and our two daughters and two sons and this takes me to the 1970's which were the best of times and the worst of times. I've been spoiled by my parents with access to their good music, my young aunts who gave me rock and roll in the 1950s, and the transistor radio in the 1960s blaring the Beatles, Beach Boys, and Motown!

These brothers had harmonies unmatched. As you go down deeper you will learn about their younger brother Andy Gibb. He was a baller also. Barry's style is just so unique and you can tell he is deeply into the emotions of the whole production.

I was born in 1967, and the BeeGees were my heartthrobs!!! They also had a brother, Andy Gibb, who never thought he was going to be recognized as anything more than their kid brother. Sadly, only Barry, the oldest brother who can hit those high notes, is still alive today. NOBODY, but NOBODY can compare to the Bee Gees!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

Me 2!!! 1967! I remember a girl in my 5th grade class getting Teen Magazine with Andy Gibb on the cover. OMG! We were all so squealified! And I don’t know about you but I played my Bee Gee’s dominant Saturday Night Fever vinyl every chance I got. 70’s and is my favorite music decade still.

The Bee Gees came to popularity through hard work and talent. Gigging around, in bars, hotels, halls. Getting on to Radio, DJs playlists, TV shows in the UK, like, Top of The Pops…Movie soundtracks.

Autotune did not exist, yet. Singers/musicians needed true talent, or they wouldn't get very far. Artists of the past developed their vocals over time. They practiced, practiced, practiced until they got it right.

The Bee Gees were unlike anyone else. They just did what they did, make beautiful music. I don’t think there is anyone who is comparable to them. There were some beautiful harmonizing groups. My favorite harmonizing group was Crosby, Stills, Nash and sometimes Young, the song Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Or Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), but they have a totally different sound, good harmony though. They were a cross of a couple different types of music, R&B, Pop and Disco. They blended those types beautifully. I was born in ‘73 (Gen X) and I remember the music when I was a little girl. I’d say it was late Boomer music/early Gen X, mostly Boomer. We had the radio, boom boxes, movies and Walkman’s.

The Gibb brothers wrote over 1000 songs and they wrote hit songs for other artists. They actually wrote THREE #1 singles in ONE day (Too Much Heaven, Tragedy and Shadow Dancing which was a huge hit sung by baby brother Andy Gibb). They grew up and began singing as children in Australia, then moved to England. They've changed and restarted their careers a few times over 50 years. They had big hits back before disco hit big in the late 70s. In fact, they didn't intentionally write disco music. They had these songs they'd been working on for a still untitled new album in 1977 when movie producer Robert Stigwood called them up and said he wanted five songs for the new movie he was working on called Saturday Night Fever starring a kid named John Travolta. They knocked out the songs in one long weekend (including Saturday Night Fever, Staying' Alive, How Deep is Your Love and More Than A Woman). The movie became a cultural phenomenon, and though they already had hits back in the 60s the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack shot them into super stardom.

I am an Old Hippie and I love all of the music from the 50s 60s 70s and into the 80s when music was all about love and peace and being together whereas today's music is filled with hate and animosity and ugly overwhelms ...so it's so good to see someone like you find out how beautiful love and music can be. the flower child era of love and peace and hope and togetherness was a wonderful time and the Bee Gees grew their music through all of those eras there's nobody like them and there never will be again

In Europe and the world The Bee Gees were also very famous before the Fever or the so-called "disco" period. They just switched from their old sound to a new sound, with rich orchestrations and rhythms, and then US went crazy for them. We listened to them on the radio or saw them in concert on TV. At first they sang something like soft pop rock, then they went to R&B/Soul which is mistaken defined as "disco", then they wrote songs for other singers, and finally they came back again with their typical sound, which I think can only be defined as theirs name - Bee Gees style - Gentle smooth harmonies, perfectly balanced with interesting instrumental, melody and lyrics. Genius!

Nobody came close to the BeeGees. They were musical geniuses. Nobody could write or sing a song like the Gibb brothers. ❤. These guys started singing here in Australia in the 1950s and continued until Mo passed in 2003. Their last album was released in 2001. They didn't have a genre they changed with the times.

The Bee Gees had hits in the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s and 2000’s and not only for themselves. They wrote songs for most of the top artists such as Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Elvis, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Yvonne Elliman, Tavares, Frankie Valli, Jimmy Ruffin and Dionne Warwick to name but a few. They wrote over 1,000 songs are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Bee Gees are the greatest. Noone compares or even comes clos in my opinion. I was born in 1962, am 62 years old, and they were performing before i was born. They came on the scene in 1955. This is a combination of R and B and POP. Robin and Maurice are fraternal twins and Barry is their big brother.

Multi talented family. They wrote their own songs as well as hits for other artists. You can all four brothers on stage in You should be dancing (video says 1976), also would enjoy Wind of change (live 1979), Medley in Melbourne 1989 and Kiss of life. Bee Gees have videos from 1960 ( as kids) - 2001. They crossed many genres can’t really be put in a box.

They got their start in the 1950's in England and Australia where they grew up. I'm on the cusp of boomer and gen x and grew up listening to them (still do). The 4th brother (Andy) was just as talented. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 have passed on. If you want to hear their true talent, check out them performing Blowing in the Wind live on a show in about 1963. It's incredible.

The radio play of their songs is what made them known in other countries. Barry’s soaring vocals of just “Ahhhhh” I think was just him feeling the music and filling the background with beautiful tones that emphasized their incredible harmonies.

Back then we didn't have social media, but we had Television and Radio, Newspapers and word of mouth..that was our social media back then 70s 80s...thats how we found out about things..Thats how musicians became famous through Radio and Television..

How Deep Is Your Love was released in September 1977 (the oldest Xers would have been 12 YO & Boomers range 12-31) and is considered a 'pop ballad'. I am a 77yr old great grandmother. I love your reaction to the BeeGees, it made me smile. This is definitely early Boomer music. Gen X are from 1965. So they were babies when the BeeGees was popular. Of course there was radio and records to spread this music worldwide. No auto tune back then, just pure talent. You should also check out Andy Gibbs. He was the youngest and also had an amazing voice.

Boomers are 1946-1964 and so anyone born on or between those years (including myself) had a great advantage as the Bee Gees started singing on television in 1960 in Australia. They came back to the UK and got a contract with the same Company that had The Beatles, in London, in 1966. Their manager, Robert Stigwood, had contacts all over the music world and in films. He was a great publicist for them through him they got American contacts and eventually began recording in the USA. As their last Album was made in 2001 'This is where I came in' Generation X got to hear a lot of them too. The Boomers who followed them through to the end even more.

I think both the Boomers and Gen-X were blessed with the Bee Gees. I'm 58 and considered to be the very beginning of Gen X. I remember listening to the Bee Gees in the mid 70's through early 80's. I feel so blessed to have had my childhood during that time.

Late Boomer. Grew up with the BeeGees. Have so much respect for their unmatched talent. Consider myself fortunate to have experienced music in the 70s and 80s. It was the best!

It was much harder to make it as a famous musician back then. You'd have to get recognized by an A&R rep and get signed to a record label. Record labels had the money and influence to get your songs played on the radio. People would hear songs on the radio and if they liked them they would go buy their records, 8tracks or cassette tapes. It wasn't easy to even get an A&R rep to even listen to a demo. One thing that was cool about it was in the 70's and stuff, we often didn't really even know what the musicians looked like unless their picture was on their record or they had a guest appearance on a tv show. Of course some people were known for their looks, but there was more focus on the quality of the music than what the people looked like than there is now.

Good looks helped....but not always! There were many successful groups that didn't have "the look"....such as Steely Dan & many others.🎼

Back in the day, artist depended on RADIO to play their records so the songs were geared for radio. Thats why it was so sad when they started that “disco sucks” time because radio stopped playing anything by The Bee Gees. So…they started writing for other artist and radio played those songs, which many got to #1! You can’t stop greatness!!!! I never considered The Bee Gees as a disco band. They were an R&B Band to me if anything!

They came out in the USA at the same time the Beatles came to America. At the same time both were in competition with The King Elvis Presley. Check Elvis Presley out. You will be just as amazed. Elvis opened the door for many, many singers. Especially black singers. Watch Elvis and the black community. Your eyes will be opened.....😂❤

I was born in ‘73 - this song came out in ‘77 and I remember as a little girl dancing with my sisters and brother who are significantly older than myself to this and this music was so soothing to me as a child. I get so warm and sentimental listening. It’s like a core memory for me

One of the top harmony bands to ever take the mic if not the TOP. You will love their banger "You should be dancing" I always say Donna Summer and The Bee Gee's DOMINATED the disco era. Don't sleep on Donna Summer - look for the smokin hot red dress album

I'm mid-Gen X and when the Bee-Gee's released this, I was not even kindergarten-aged. This was definitely my parent's (Boomers) music, and my taste in music didn't start really developing until somewhere around the mid to late 80s. Although, as an adult I do admit to the Bee Gees growing on me over the years. Back in the 70s, cable TV was really not a thing in most homes. In the majority of home, there were like 3-5 network TV channels, and we had the radio. Beside reading, this was mainly our entertainment. MTV didn't even become a thing until 1981. Instead, they had shows like American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Soul Train, and other musical shows on these network channels here in the US (Britain had their own like Top of the Pops). And the radio would feature a weekly series like the American Top 40, which would introduce new songs that eventually became popular.

Their dad was a drummer and they lived in Manchester 🇬🇧 they used to practice over and over as boys. They moved to Australia and had some success there as very young kids. They moved back to England and had some success. Robert Stigwood (record producer) recommended them for doing the sound track to Saturday night Fever . This shot them to stardom in America. Ps. I love them and proud to appreciate their music 🎶

MJ were on same level sales wise etc .Barry was loyal to MJ to the end..❤ I remember when MJ won an award and was saying his speech Barry came from backstage to congratulate him. They were good friends. MJ was so happy . In one of Chris Tuckers shows him and MJ went to Barry’s house and listened to them sing this song together. Oh I proud to say they grew up in my country Australia 😊

Teens in the ‘70s like myself listened to the radio constantly, went to concerts and the groups were on TV. we bought actual vinyl albums. It was definitely the ‘70s when these guys rose to fame. The Boomers had the best music.
