This whole concert showcases Ian's writing ability. Listen to this version. All the orchestral music he wrote to co-exist and intertwine with the Jethro Tull songs . That's why they showed the musical notes. Outstanding !!!

Ian Anderson is the absolute best and was one of a kind in his era even though he admitted that he learnt the wrong way how to play the flute. I, personally, don't give a damn if he learnt right or wrong way, I look at the performance. He was fantastic on stage, he still is. I love this guy's talent.

I would even go so far as to say (IMHO), he benefited from the lack of classical training. By teaching himself, he wasn't discouraged from experimenting with many techniques (e.g. flutter-tongue, voicing as he played etc.), which were ignored or frowned on by many classical flautists. It set him apart from many other flautists and made him the great player he is today.

My dad was the original superfan of this man and Jethro Tull. When he passed and I couldnt get to his funeral. All I could do was sing this song in my head then nearly passed out in shock when I found that this was the song on my dads final journey.😥😥😥Hope it was a message from dad.

Been listening to Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull since 1977 and there still is so much beauty, harmony, melody, creativity in their music. Can feel it and them There was just this one time when they played live in my country and I traveled 700 miles in difficult conditions for that show. It was electrifying, amazinggggg and I had to sleep in the campus grounds that night coz I didn't have the money to rent a room at any hotel. Just in for the Jethro Tull show and back. A lifetime's dream came true Love you Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull ❤

Ian, I met a lady that played the flute. She lived in Cologne Germany, many years ago. She told that she taught an elder how to play but, she had to make the notes very large so she could see them I was stationed in the military there. She gave me a music book, which I have lost, since. But, I bought a flute while I was in Germany and brought it home with me to the US. I eventually sold it to a lady for $100. She wanted it for her son. I worked on the railroad for a number of years and never pursued playing the flute. However, I want to again. You have always been my inspiration and I want to Thank You for that. Now, that I am older and retired I want to take up my passion for music again. I hope I can produce and make something of it, before i say goodbye to this cruel but worthwhile living world.

Beautiful song! They've been a favourite of mine since I heard 'Stand Up'. I first saw Jethro Tull at the Liverpool Stadium back in 1971 when they toured the Album Aqualung👌,. Then again when they toured Thick as a Brick👌, Outstanding!. I saw them many times at the hight of their powers. I love these orchestral pieces 👌. Tough to hear of Ian's pulmonary problems, I'm sure he's keeping well away from folks during this 'virus' Be well dear friend. "..you poor old sod, you see it's only me..." ✌️🐝

When you're falling awake And you take stock of the new day And you hear your voice croak As you choke on what you need to say Well, don't you fret, don't you fear I will give you good cheer Life's a long song Life's a long song Life's a long song If you wait then your plate I will fill As the verses unfold And your soul suffers the long day And the twelve o'clock gloom, spins the room You struggle on your way Well, don't you sigh, don't you cry Lick the dust from your eye Life's a long song Life's a long song Life's a long song We will meet in the sweet light of dawn As the Baker Street train spills your pain All over your new dress And the symphony sounds underground Put you under duress Well, don't you squeal as the heel Grinds you under the wheels Life's a long song Life's a long song Life's a long song But the tune ends too soon for us all But the tune ends too soon for us all

The guitar 🎸 that Ian plays in the videos of this song is very interesting. The fullness of the acustic sound makes me wonder if the instrument is being amplifier and if so, how.? I don't see any wires. Anyway, it's a great and wonderful sound. I've been a Jethro Tull fan from the gitgo.
