Ian was a poet that put his poetry to music and I also think the Blockheads were very underated musically

A number of performers who like to be funny have really good musicians backing them. Weird Al is a parody comic but, his band really makes it work. They can cover the hits almost exactly, if needed.

We lost Ian far too young. I grew up in the town Ian lived and before his death he made a documentary that I was lucky enough to see him recording it in our home town where he later died. There was a movie made about his life in 2010 called Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll with Andy Sirkis playing Ian but better known as playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies. Also I see you've reacted to some Madness tracks, well the last track Ian performed on was with Madness called 'Drip Fed Fred', released just a few months before Ians passing. This is still one of my favourite tracks and is well worth a listen.

You were right about the Blockheads - they were great musically. Also that Ian Dury wasn’t the greatest vocalist - it was his persona and charisma that people loved. He came out of something called Pub Rock, which dovetailed with the slightly later Punk Rock scene.

You need to listen to as much Ian Dury and the Blockheads as you can. The band were all highly accomplished musicians and Ian was a lyrical genius and a superb showman.

You should listen to his masterpiece album: New Boots & Panties! It is one of a kind, a genuine work of genius. It contains lines worthy of Shakespeare.

@diogenesagogo
@diogenesagogo 12 күн бұрын
@@eddisstreet Actually that beginning is an incredibly inventive dramatic introduction to the song; it turns your whole expectations upside down ... "aerosol" - obviously a euphemism ... isn't it??... But then " the bricks " -^ everything changes! We see the whole scene now, Dury has painted the backdrop to Patricia's blighted, brutal life story, which he then proceeds to describe in his own inimitable way. Genius!

@@diogenesagogo I wasn't saying it wasn't any good - the whole album is great - but Shakespeare it aint.

Incredible writer and performer and really spoke for the time. He and the band were well loved. Behind the silly was usually a message, too.

The thing that makes me laugh so hard is that Andy Serkis made a movie about Ian Dury a few years ago. Andy asked Ian's son, Baxter, if he was happy with the way his father was portrayed. Baxter said "Dad was a much bigger c*** than that."

Check out his first band Kilburn & The High-Roads. I think their best One is "The Roadette Song". He also played drums in Wreckless Erics first touring band - The Rockets (with Ians then girlfriend Denise Roudette on bass and fellow Blockhead Davey Payne om sax).

One of the most productive men in the music industry, producer,singer,songwriter,mentor,record label owner,promotor, and generally well loved people during the era. If you listen to Any Madness sing you will here his influence. He was held in great esteem by Suggs and co.

That reaction was brilliant a true British icon if I remember correctly I seen him in a interview and the song was written in a flat behind the oval cricket ground that he called cat shit mansion 😂 Ian always denied that the song was a punk song and it was about more to life than nine to five and living life to exess but because of the lyrics of the song it was band buy BBC radio 1 he really is a very interesting guy

I don't see any point in banning a song that isn't promoting anything hateful, violent, or illegal. And even then, within very small parameters. We should be free to express ourselves, for the most part.

They were very good musicians. Ian Dury was more a writer than a singerr. Bass player, Norman Watt-Roy, can be heard on Frankie Goes To Hollywood's ''Relax''. I don't know how well Ian Dury And The Blockheads did in Canada, but they were pretty big in Australia in 79/80 where I believe ''Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick'' got to # 1 in the summer of 79. You can still hear ''Sex & Drugs & Rock n Roll'' on those Classic Rock stations over in Oz - once in a while.

Great stuff again. Apart from Ian Dury's 'Hit me' track, you should also try one of his called 'Sweet Gene Vincent', possibly the best tribute song there is. If you find the one with the lyrics, it's also got some seriously great wordplay.

Such a shallow reaction. First you didn't have the wit to find the track you intended to react to react to. Then your comments were trite, aside from the obvious that the The Blockheads were an excellent band, (they still are). If this is the best you can do, it's time to put your camera and microphones away. Have you no shame?
