Ian Dury documentary, in 1983 a special edition of the Tube was cancelled, this was broadcast in its place. I recorded it on BASF L750 Betamax tape 0067. Ian Dury, lead singer of the Blockheads, talks about how becoming disabled has affected his life and music. This documentary - featuring a mix of performances, interviews and fly-on-the-wall footage - explores the strong links between his life and song writing. Dury explains the thinking behind the provocative single ‘Spasticus Autisticus’, his critical response to the first “International Year of the Disabled”.

@@ScottishTeeVee hiya, just come in, clearing snow off garden paths, trying too anyway....... Yeah, gig at poly, great stuff, great banter on stage, crowd loved him, a lot joined him on stage at end for rhythm stick. Loved his song lyrics, still do... poly bar, before gig. Chatted to lots of folk. Great memories..... Had a quick look Talking heads, watch later. Blimey, the backing singer's loud ain't she? See ya. (Did you celebrate last night?) ✌👍❤

@@joyceh2721 No celebrations for Burns here, sorry. He was read at school every year and I just sat wondering "?" I usually had no clue what the teacher was talking about and the words were never explained. It's not that I never got poetry etc, as my son is named after Dylan Thomas. You were lucky to have seen and met Dury, was it November 4th 1977? The Talking Heads gig is good, but I prefer The Blockheads far more, my son prefers Talking Heads and this video was uploaded for him. Are there other bands or artists that you are into? Oh and now you see I replied from another YT account, the perils of having multiple accounts.

Poet. As in Percy...😊 Love this. An independent kicking the bollocks of the corporate world; but accepting of the fact that he needs to operate within it As Ian said on the Stiff tour..."Gary Glitter is six years older than me. And I stand by my rights". I didnt know what it meant but still admire the spirit👍

The reason he's wearing a hat with corks is he's in Australia on a show called Countdown. He's probably wearing it as a joke. People used to wear hats with corks in the outback to keep flies away from your face.

@@helenbartoszek243 Thanks, I get that, but it's such an awful old stereotype, one that was never a thing here anyway, and so the basis of my intended joke.

@@KevKavanagh ok, gotcha I agree it is an awful stereotype, but it was early eighties and probably thought it was funny. Molly probably gave him the hat! I saw Ian Dury in Adelaide at the Festival Theatre (of all places) and Hunter and Collectors were support. Great night! Most likely same year as the Countdown episode.

You know what they say “Big things come in small packages 📦” and that is certainly the best way how I’d describe Ian Dury. He was a tiny man with a huge outrageous larger than life personality. (He even played his trademark “mind games” with the director of this documentary. LOL 😆)
