Finally! So many guides seem to go without giving you any measurement to go by for some reason, sure, a some of it is up to personal taste and playing style, but it helped me figure out that my truss rod was way out of adjustment and finally get to a point where I've not got fret buzz and have a solid reference from which I can adjust my action to my playing style Also had no idea that the cover on Ibanez guitars slides out of the way like that, thought you had to unscrew it

Setting up a guitar is always a personal thing. I have found 0.4mm to be about right and the owner of the guitar is delighted. If 0.25mm works for you then stick with it.

I have a brand new Ibanez RG that needs more relief but as I loosen the truss rod it seem to have reached a 'stop' and I'm afraid to put too much more pressure on the hex wrench for fear of damaging the truss rod. Is this to be expected with the double truss rod that you mentioned? Am I supposed to feel thus resistance when loosening the rod for relief?

Have the same guitar but when I try to adjust it tightening the truss rod (because the action is too high in 12th and the neck have counterclock curve) is too hard. Have other guitars who have much softer truss rod. I'm scared because I have too apply quite force for turnings.

Do you think I can use my Ibanez multi-tool to check the neck relief? I don't really see anything that looks like a feeler gauge though.

My Ibanez RG1XXV (made in Indonesia) took a 4.5mm key to turn the nut. Does that mean it has been slightly stripped out? A 4mm was too small and the 5 was too big. Do you recommend I try and change the truss rod nut or leave it alone so long as the 4.5mm is working? Thanks!

Hi, got an ibby TMB-100 bass, at fret 14 string height is correct at 2.8-3.2mm but if I play on fret 1 the 3 fat strings all buzz / touch fret 2, is this gonna be truss rod or new neak? To me it looks like the head is bent back too far so fret 2 is higher / sams height as fret 1, play fret 2 onwards the strings occasionally buzz on fret 3 but fret 3 onwards its good, possibly the Nut? Its not that old, any ideas? Don't want to make it worse, cheers

My brand new guitar (RGAT62) has no action no matter how much adjustment I do. It came with a lot of fret buzz out the box too 😭 Is there a more serious way to fix this or does the whole rod need to be replaced? I'm pretty handy and could figure out how to replace it but I might just return it if I can :(

I'm gonna just try using 11s on my jem from 9s do a intonation set up see if it sorts abit of my buzzing out see if I can get low E down from 2.5mm to 1.9mm I just dont get much turning on my rod!! I'd be happy with 1.9 or 2mm low e,,,I can get my high E to 1.4 1.5mm

After weather changed here in Western Canada, and on my Ibanez guitar the action suddenly dropped dramatically and I got fret buzz right 2nd fret. I didn't know any better, so just raised the bridge. Should I have used the Truss rod instead?

Very nice! +1 follower here! Hey.. I have a similar model (RG2EX1) wich I notice a little fret buzz in open strings (A, D and G) and on 3° fret too. It's not too much buzz, but it's there... Do you think it can be fixed by adjusting the truss rod? Or can I try another kind of adjusment first? Thanks in advance! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Hello, i have purchased an RG421CW and am having some difficulty trying to set it up, whereas i do not have access to a luthier shop nearby. It was first set up with 9.5 gauge strings and i put 9 gauge strings on it at standard tuning. What amount of relief would i need to accommodate this gauge? And would i have to compromise the 2mm bass side and 1.5mm treble side action?
@paulyoung4781
@paulyoung4781 Жыл бұрын
I m 2.5mm and 1.5mm high e treble side I cant get my low E down past 2.5mm I'd like it 2mm I'd feel comfortable but that buzz is so annoying I've spent days trying and just cant get no were,I see no one gets back to no one on here haha

Not enough relief would be why my Ibanez RG has rattling strings on the low E, right? It sounds like how a bass rattles. Nothing "frets out" but it makes it harder to fret chords.

What would you recommend for a 7-string Ibanez model? Getting ready to put on some new strings and I'm giving my guitar the guitar equivalent of a spa day lol. Steel wool on the fretboard followed by bore oil, and dusting and removing fingerprint smudges on the finish. I want a comfortable action for Light top/heavy bottom strings (9's) in Drop A tuning

Anyone know the size of the alan key tool he's using here? I have a hex set which works for Fender and Gibson, but it sounded like he was saying Ibanez uses a different type of shape. If he just meant that it's a different size alan key, I should be fine since I have like 30 keys in the set or something.

I know its late but just in case, the allen key size that fits my ibanez truss rod (wizard II neck I think) is 4mm. I recommend a ball ended allen key.
@AtacamaHumanoid
@AtacamaHumanoid 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gajoobles Thanks, I actually adjusted my neck probably around the same time I made this comment, but I still appreciate that you took the time to reply with the information. The guy who set this up before me had it super-low but buzzing everywhere. Plugged in you can't hear it, but big difference in tone when the strings are not buzzing. It sounded thin and wimpy before. I probably could have fixed it with an EQ peddle, but raising the action to a more normal height I'm already used to is free and easier.

aren't you supposed to allow an hour or two for the wood to naturally move and settle to avoid stress that could eventually lead to a crack in the neck?
@willowguitars4592
@willowguitars4592 6 жыл бұрын
Hi. That's a good idea if you are dealing with an older or vintage instrument but as long as you take it easy it shouldn't be a problem with more modern guitars. I have not had or heard of any issues regarding cracking.

if i am playing or ginging with floyd rose where the whole tension is drastically changed withing seconds and the whole system keeps stable, i am in doubt that those small relief corrections need time to settle
