In this episode of the show, we look back at the first four games of the Super 8 stage at the Men's T20 World Cup, which saw Australia, England, India and South Africa record victories.
We start the show by discussing Australia's win against Bangladesh - a game that included a 'Pat trick' as Captain Cummins collected three wickets from three balls across two overs. We also saw Adam Zampa and David Warner continue their good form, and explored Baldy's nervous nature despite Australia's history of success.
From there we move to India's game against Afghanistan, which was highlighted by Suryakumar Yadav's impressive fifty and then Jasprit Bumrah reducing Afghanistan to 23-3 in the early stages of their innings. We pile praise on these two T20 stars, and marvel in particular at Bumrah, whose ability to sum up conditions in an instant is second-to-none.
Third up in our match review was England's performance against the West Indies. Was it a statement win? How fun is it to watch Jonny Bairstow and Phil Salt in full swing? Do both sides need to make changes to their bowling lineups? And can the West Indies still make the semi-finals?
In the fourth and final game covered, we saw South Africa's top order finally hit some form - this time against the USA, despite a strong start from Saurabh Netravalkar. Quinton de Kock got busy, and the Proteas kicked off the Super 8s in style.
We round out the show with more praise for the USA, some crystal ball gazing about what the future might hold for them, and also discuss the news that Kane Williamson and Lockie Ferguson are set to decline Black Caps contracts. Is the sky falling for New Zealand? Or could this actually be a good thing?
We are planning to record regularly throughout the next phases of the tournament, so expect to be in your feed every few days through to the final match. Has been a little unnoticed but I believe it’s good because every tournament everyone puts India as the best team and we don’t win trophy But the good thing this time, they looked good under pressure, no chaos when they were under pressure + Every other time India’s top 3 used to win the games, but this time middle order, which has always been a problem, has performed really well. Imagine if Kohli and Rohit starts scoring.

Yes if that top order hits form for this next week India is going to be very very hard to beat.

Another win for South Africa overnight - maybe Baldy is right about them!

We're all running out of superlatives for Bumrah - he's so so good! Super computer is a great way of putting it. Seems to know exactly what to do at every moment.

More than 1/2 of Indian supporters are not confident this team will even enter the final as they are seeing how the two openers n Dube are not firing and should not be in the team at all. Most probably if the team is lucky, they can finish as runners up again. But if they meet England, can say goodbye to the tournament.

Interesting - is there no feeling that they’ve made it this far despite quiet tournaments from some of those batters, so maybe they hit form right when it matters most?

@@thetoporderpodcast There’s hardly any confidence that these 3 will hit top form in this tournament and many are clamouring for Kohli to be shifted to number 3 and Dube dropped.

I have more confidence in Dube than Kohli, who should not have been in the side. I still think Jaiswal and Gill should have been the openers. Dube batted well in at least one match.

@@nsn5564 You perfectly know that Kohli is undroppable from the squad or playing XI as he is like a god for millions of his fans in India. BCCI didn’t want to face the wrath of millions of indians thus they selected him. Only way Kohli won’t be playing is if he retires from the format.

As an Indian cricket fan, I am convinced they're going to lose in the semis. I give them no chance of winning the whole thing.

I was really surprised to see SL and NZ not make the next round, and I'm wondering if it's a major shift in cricket power.

Hope it doesn’t shift for too long in the case of New Zealand! 😀

That Jasprit Bumrah was not the PotG/MotM is a travesty of the highest order. When he bowls 4 overs close to maidens never mind the wickets, it's absolutely the difference between the teams. He completely changes the game and the opposition's strategy.

Yes that was a tough one. Top knock from SKY, but Bumrah put an end to the contest very quickly once he came on to bowl.
