ICC T20 World Cup Preview: Black Caps' unknowns, English pressure & the 20-team format

In this episode of the show, the team are all in the same room to preview the ICC T20 World Cup hosted by the West Indies and USA.
We discuss the 20-team format, what overall tournament success looks like for the ICC, the quick turnaround from the IPL and the type of cricket we might see played throughout the month of June.
We then look at the 4 groups in more detail - will India and their star-studded line-up cruise through Group A? How much pressure is there on England to bounce back from their ODI World Cup disappointment? Will the Black Caps make it to the knockout stages yet again? Is this South Africa's moment? Or is a home win for the West Indies written in the stars? Which teams hold the biggest upset potential? And prediction time!
We won't be doing daily updates of this World Cup, but are hoping to record regularly throughout the tournament, particularly as we approach the Super 8 and knockout stages. Sri lanka in t20 world cups--- 2009 runners up 2010 semifinals 2012 runnners up 2014 champions, and also sri lanka has the most wins in t20 world cups(32wins), So do you really think a team like netherland will kick SL out from the group stages, when did netherlands beat sri lanka before this, show me a single time they have done it, the hate and disrespect towards the SL cricket is insane these days,

Love the passion! You’ll see from another of the comments that some of us love SL and think they could go far in the tournament - how confident are you feeling about the bowling attack being healthy though? If they can get Pathirana, Madushanka, Thushara, Hasaranga, Theekshana etc on the field that would be awesome

No hatred but u see we don't look at the team's history and go wow it's a great team, we see it on contemporary team, the current team and although Sri Lanka has never failed to produce great cricketer but certainly can't be said about current Sri Lanka era, the rivalry i see from Sri Lanka perspective is only Bangladesh, what about Australia, India, England, New Zealand? I think it was Asia Cup semi, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to go to final and I was quite hyped about it I was literally taken hook by Sri Lanka's performance in the the semi but guess what the Final against India was a total one sided win for India, I mean it's wrong to say this but logically thinking if it was Pakistan who went to final they could've given a better fight against India, so u may reconsider ur view about the current Sri Lanka team and ur idea of hatred towards Sri Lanka, it's not hatred we love Sri lanka

@@thetoporderpodcastSuper 8 positions are predetermined for the top 8 sides , no matter where they finish , if they qualify the 2 super 8 groups will be , Group 1 - Australia , New Zealand , Sri Lanka , India Group 2 - England , South Africa , Pakistan , West Indies

It's to help with the fans so they could book hotels etc in the regions where their teams play, makes sense to me, also it made antepost betting a bit easier, as I can't see Australia, India, England and west indies not making the semis. You could back these individually to get to the semis and get only 3/4 and be in profit still

Regarding why ICC wants to include so many associate nations in the World Cup and make it a 20 nation tournament was to qualify for the Olympics.. Cricket needed to be a sport played in most continents to qualify so the T20 format provided that opportunity

As much as I love this playing XI, I think it's hard to not pick Jaiswal as the other opener for Rohit so I don't think we would go with this XI throughout the tournament. I would definitely be happy if they play this in semis and finals just in case we lose quick wickets in the powerplay when we go hard in the powerplay. I really think we should double down on the aggressive mode in knockout matches.

There are many different haka, so potentially we will see it incorporated one day. For some reason it doesn’t quite feel like it fits as a welcome/challenge for a cricket match - what do you think?

And yes NZ not the greatest record for winning but we were the first ICC World Test Champions and have had a pretty good run at the white ball tournaments. There’s also an Englishman and an Australian on the panel so between us have had some joy as fans 👍

You guys predicting India in semi finals? You have more faith in our Indian team than us, I don't see us going past top8. Virat & bumrah will have to drag the team on their shoulders. And they alone can't win WC for us.

@@thetoporderpodcast Jaiswal rohit virat sky dube pandya jadeja kuldeep bumrah siraj arshdeep, they'll add axar in place of siraj/arshdeep when they need more spinners, sanju & yuzi will sit on the sidelines serving drinks to the main guys, Pant is their first choice WK as he's left hander and usually plays at 5-6. Also don't believe what the On paper stats says, if we somehow reach SF which I highly doubt, we'll transform into a more defensive team than we are and get bowled out for 110-120 , also the Big guys you're talking about have a SR of 125-130 . Good luck competing against Aus SA WI NZ Eng with that SR. Also our finisher is in travelling reserve & not in main 15 so the fantastic Jadeja is our finisher with a mind blowing SR of 120
