Zim beating Ind and SA were both upsets as they had a terrible World Cup record before that. Both defending champions SL and home team Eng exiting after the first round, while Zim made it to the Super Sixes - was a big upset. Anyways, Zim had really peaked during this World Cup and were expected to only get better with such a talented team. Unfortunately, the political scenario in the coming years never allowed that to happen!

I remember this was the first World Cup I watched as a child, didn't know how the World Cup format worked - so we were really shocked after losing the first 2 matches to SA and Zim. My dad said that if we (India) make it to the next round, it would be a phenomenal comeback from here. The team really stood up in the next 3 matches, esp against defending champs SL and home team Eng. The way the youngsters (back then, playing their first World Cup) Sourav & Rahul took it on them, esp in these last 3 matches with the bat, ball and the gloves - was really heartwarming.

This was the best ever Zimbabwe team, brilliantly led by Neil Johnson. Made it to the Super 6 after beating India and South Africa. Also won test series against India and Pakistan.

@@ayandas3822India was an average and Zimbabwe was a below average team. In theory they can compete with average team from time to time. This was the case here. Zimbabwe from late 90s to early 00s had only a 33% winning rate. Their strongest period in history. If you take out Bangladesh or Kenya it will be 25%.
