Nice. I've been trying to plan a trip with Daris for a while now. Always loved seeing his vids on Facebook. BUT, I gotta say, you should've asked him to do some sight fishing. Sight fishing for Trout is 10x more fun than looking at a flasher or livescope.

I wonder if these trout are tail slapping the lure? When I fly fish under and indicator (straight down w/ a leech fly) in a lake, they often smack it, then circle around and eat it. You see the indicator bounce, then a few seconds later go under. I have heard when feeding on nymphs or leeches for example the tail bump causes the leech to ball up and stop swimming it means they don't have to chase the food a long way in the cold water. I don't know if this is a similar behavior as there is no ice where I live and trout strains can differ greatly. Great video though, looks like a ton of fun.

Next time you should try skin down first to get the skin real crunchy and then cook it on the flesh side only for about a min or so! The skin is like a chip when you do it that way.

Improve the taste and texture of your trout by poking the gills and letting them bleed out right after landing. When they die of suffocation a lot of cortisol and lactic acid builds up in the flesh. Also it's a good idea to give them a good brain smack first..

Give those beautiful trout a bonk on the head and cut their gills when you keep them. Flopping on the ice they build up tons of lactic acid in the meat which isn’t good for the meat. Bleeding them helps taste and preservation if you store any. 👍🏻
