Welcome Back! Since I've been trying to think up projects marrying all the different types of crafts I love, I thought I'd toss in something new. I also love to knit and have an Etsy shop where I sell my handmade neck warmers, cowls and scarves. It's not always easy to find amazing buttons so I decided to combine recycling, mix media techniques, paper and resin to make my own unique buttons. It's become my new obsession! Sit back and enjoy and let me know what you think.

This was one of the BEST crafting videos I’ve seen!! You teach this so well and are so thorough. I LOVE these buttons so much!! I have so many circle cut-outs that I am hoarding because I don’t know what to do with them…until now! Most of them are from beautiful papers I created with monoprinting, collage, etc.. They took me a while to make, so I haven’t wanted to use them until I could figure out something really cool. Thank you for these ideas and your wonderful videos. I also loved the video on creating mark-making tools with hot glue. Will try that sometime too.

Thank you so much! Since making this video I was told UV resin would be faster drying. I've purchased some but haven't tried it yet. My buttons are waterproof using ICE resin so I'm hoping UV resin will achieve the same results in a faster processing time. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. Thank you for watching and commenting. ❤️

I want to wad up a mess of thread snd put ontop..have seen it done onto glue blob to make a wee bird nest looking deco... my wonky slow stich project could use lots of button nests! And i can finally afford the oversized shaped buttons i have drooled over for so long, wheee.

I loved this video. I haven’t seen any videos in this genre so you’re a trailblazer imho. Your buttons are beautiful and truly professionally created and packaged. There were several that were incredibly eye catching; the delicate flower plates, the sheet music, etc. Your attention to detail, professional packaging and explanation of the steps were inspired. Forgive me for my repetition but I can’t help myself. Lol I create all manner of items from custom faux stained lamp shades, jewelry, journals, cards, clocks that are resin finished, etc. Your video gave me so many ideas for custom buttons that I will create in the themes for my journals in specific motifs such as angels, celestial, boho, holidays & seasons. I have worked with resin for decades using EnviroTex. I will also have a great opportunity to use my jewelry Dremel. Hooray! My imagination is going wild with ideas you’ve inspired. I am eager to make some buttons using gilding wax, glitter, foil flakes, etc. I recently purchased some cork sheets from Dollar Tree ($1.00!!!), so I can recreate your gorgeous cork buttons. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for priming my creative juices. Blessings.

I don’t know if I missed it but how many layers did you use of the cardboard.
@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 6 ай бұрын
I usually use at least three. It really depends on the thickness of the material you are using and how thick you want your buttons. You'll have a fourth layer with what you're using on top for the decorative part and the thickness of that decorative layer may determine how many cardboard layers you want. I'm also using a different resin product now because ICE Resin has been discontinued. The one I'm using now is a UV resin called Piccassio. I'll be redoing these videos at some point but in the meantime here's a link: Piccassio UV Resin: amzn.to/41DHHVP

Sorry for the confusion. I think I figured out what happened. As far as the button videos go, it looks like there were only two. Here's the link to that playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLLZLDkP8ZTq3yopdimGveKBJ8_A3ck2_b. I think what happened is that I started a playlist doing mashups with jewelry and paper craft. This video was the third in that series but then I did a part 2 in the button making which is in this playlist. I'll have to see if I can find the earlier two episodes in the mashup series. I may have deleted them as I am trying to redo these videos because ICE Resin is no longer available. I am now using a UV resin in its placed want to do new videos.

@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 10 ай бұрын
Hi Joanne. Thank you. For these buttons I used ICE Resin and they are washable. I've only tried hand washing and and also just leaving the buttons sitting in water overnight. ICE Resin has since been discontinued. I've purchased a UV resin product to try but haven't made buttons with it yet. I would think that as long as the resin covers every bit of the buttons so that water can't penetrate to the paper then any resin should work and be washable. I'm sure when I try the other resin I will be doing another video to update followers. 🥰

Is there a reason you are not using UV resin? It's quick to dry and seems perfect for small projects
@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Veronique. A couple of reasons actually. I was trying to find a way to marry my jewelry techniques with paper craft and use what I have. I don't have all the UV resin materials, lamp, etc. and I'm not sure if it would dome like my jewelry resin and allow me to resin the edges, etc. which in the case of my jewelry resin, makes the buttons waterproof and completely sealed. The UV resin would definitely make this project faster so I may have to invest in the materials one of these days and give it a try. ❤️
@Veemerica
@Veemerica 2 жыл бұрын
@@heartandsoulfuldesign I have been watching many KZfaq videos and I think UV is a good alternative. I have no experience with resin but want to make my own buttons. I think I will go the UV route. A UV lamp only costs a few $. As far as I can tell, it domes just as well. I wonder if the buttons survive washing in a washing machine. The holes being drilled afterwards, doesn't the water get in?
@heartandsoulfuldesign

Why do you use a two part resin instead of UV resin?
@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 4 ай бұрын
I actually use UV resin now. The product I used in this video is no longer available. I actually started with making resin jewelry many years ago and when I was introduced to the art, this was the product I used. When I started doing other things like junk journals, I was looking for a way to use the products and skills I already had and combine them with paper craft. I find that UV resin is much faster so your question makes total sense to me. 😉

@@heartandsoulfuldesign good to know, I wasn’t sure if there was an advantage to one product over another. I started with epoxy resin crafting s few years ago and while I loved that the possibilities are really cool, over all, I hated it bc it was so messy and required sooo many additional products (molds, inks, pigment powders, inserts, inlays, shimmers, glitters, etc etc etc). I am a person of very limited means and a craft that constantly costs so much isn’t for me but I have recently started making paper beads and buttons seam like a fun thing to add to that. I do crochet and I have shied away from making things that require buttons bc I hate to spend money on more things so I can see me definitely going down a rabbit hole with this! 😂

Hi Sandra. Thank you. I did get this advice from someone else early on and did purchase some to try. I haven't tried it yet...I seem to be constantly moving on to other things.
