@@testes5006 it is very difficult because we don’t own any of the horses. It is completely up to the owner if we see the horse again .

I am completely amazed at how well this horse is standing for the treatment. Moved around a little bit, but otherwise pretty still. Maybe he knows he's being helped? I hope the hoof grows out right and the infection clears up. Great to see a horseshoeing school with such talented people who know how and care to help.

@@rebeccasha5642 the hoof is made of the same stuff our nails and hair are made of. If there's enough hoof material they shouldn't feel anything. Like how women can use hair straighteners or curlers that use high heat and don't feel it but def notice if the tool gets too close to the scalp.

I agree that it seems like he is standing pretty darn still! What an amazing animal- to remain so docile& trusting after enduring such prolonged pain. That hoof must have been incredibly painful a long time! This vid was apparently a real nail biter for a lot of us! I'm grateful you could do so much for him! Thank you

Reminded me of the Hoof GP, and was waiting for you to glue a block onto the medial claw! But since it’s not cattle, was puzzling to me how you’d get the weight off . Fascinating. Hoof cracks are terrible. Thanks for sharing.

The owner actually commented explaining their situation at the top of the comments. They were repeatedly told a shoe would fix the issue. The infection was actually a surprise. But the horse bounced from vet to vet and farrier to farrier and everyone constantly said the same thing, shoeing will fix it

The horse was amazingly patient. I hope the animal makes a full recovery and can run pain-free again. Huge difference in the before v after.

Wow, I swear you can see the coronet band already levelling out a little by the end of the trim, with the upwards pressure off that section. Fascinating.

There are no words that can articulate your knowledge, work and honest to goodness care. This horse will feel a lot better hopefully soon. This was an especially beautiful freckled horse and I love freckled horses..thank you.

When you were using the Dremel I felt the same tension in my hands that I feel when I’m at the dentist 🤠 Great work. Would love to see updates on this horse and hope I never have to deal with it on my horses. Thanks for sharing

@@Nobody277 Don’t forget the horse has no feeling in this part of their hoof. Farriers are good at not digging in too deep. The sound does get us humans though. 🤠

The owner is the top comment, apparently they’ve been to many farriers and vets who all told them he needs a shoe, and said nothing about an infection. The other hooves lol to be in good condition

That was my first thought. I watch a lot of cow hoof trimmings and even the docile ones still need completely restrained.

As I understand it, and I'm no expert, they are trained from birth to behave for this. Cows don't have that.

Thank you for training people to take care of these horse's needs properly. It was really interesting watching you fix and medically treat it's hoof. Why though do owners let their animals foot problems get so bad before seeking a professional's help??

I am sure you have seen a worse crack, but I have not. This one breaks my heart.... watching it was difficult as I felt every clip and file. I join my thanks with Huckleberry's owner to the good people at the Idaho Horseshoeing School for what they did here and in many other videos they have put out.

Amazing video, watching you dremel the crack down was fascinating, when you put the antibacterial liquid in you could really see just how incredibly deep this crack was. What a lovely, genuine pony, I’ve just read the post by his owner and so pleased Huckleberry is loved and he’s been brought to you to fix. I couldn’t believe the instability in the hoof when you started to tighten the metal up, poor pony. I would really love to see more videos, as this pony’s hoof progresses in your care. 👍

My Dad was a farrier for 55 years under a horse. He has seen this. I remember mom got a horse out of an auction with the same issue. My dad used one of the aluminum bands that they used to secure hoses to an engine to give the hoof support. Cut out that he needed to and rebuilt the hoof with fiberglass. It took a year to grow out.

This is fascinating. I have had a split on my big toenail since a boating accident in 1988. I have to keep it trimmed and filed so it doesn't snag on my sock. I sort of know what this horse is dealing with. My nail will never grow back in one piece but I hope this horse's hoof does. Cool video.

Having watched a good number of cow and horse hoof trimming videos, I gotta say that ungulates are INCREDIBLY patient animals. I rarely see a video where a horse or pony puts its hoof down repeatedly as often as this, but this looks SO painful! Granted, I'm not a farrier... but I am a cat owner. And cats' patience levels are already in the negatives when it comes to claw trimming. 😂

This appy seems to have pretty good feet considering. Nice frog that didn't look thrushy. Did a great job and if you get rid of the infection I think everything will heal up with a regular schedule with you guys!

The owner has been making sure the horse has regular vet and farrier care. I have no idea what happened to the hoof but it sounds like it wasn’t neglect.

Fascinating to watch, what a great job you have done. I look forward to following progress and hope for healing and recovery. I stubbed my big toe in May last year, the nailbed went black, it took a full six months to grow out so I'm guessing it will take many months for this hoof to grow.

It usually takes a year for a whole new hoof to grow out so it's a long process 😵

Thank you for the kind and innovative treatment for that very spotty horse. I think about the pain that horse has been living with and I want to cry. As a kid my parents bought a brood mare who had a split up to and into the coronary band and we could never get a farrier to do anything but trim. Very sad we were in Michigan and couldn't trailer her to your school. It would have improved the mares life a lot.

I had an Appaloosa who split a rear hoof, it was fascinating to watch the Farrier and Vet work together, it took about 18 mo’s for the hoof to grow completely out, but the care the Farrier took with the special shoes was amazing!

What a sweet baby ! He was so good about touching his broken hoof. Very interested in follow up on healing. So happy you're such a good mom to try so much to make sure he was healthy. Vets are alot like "human" Dr's. Sometimes you just have to find the right one. Hope he's feeling better in no time! Good luck.
