DIY Volksrod - Baja / Franken Beetle Build - 1960 VW Beetle - 7
Part 7 to a multipart series on a combo build where we are mixing a Volksrod, Baja, Racecar and other designs from all types of Volkswagen Beetle builds and rolling it into one epic build... I hope lol
Today I'm giving everyone a glimpse on the build idea since I can't sketch a decent drawing to save my life!
I honestly have over 45 hours into this front end so far…. Luckily i know how to edit out the boring stuff!

5:40 I like that look. The tapered fender cut. I would keep them but cut way back so that are just mud deflectors for the body. With the lack of body overhang and those monster tires this thing will climb over some pretty rough terrain! Real Mad Max material!

@@VWJawbreaker Hmmm, Baja, slash hotrod? 1930ish model A fenders? I remember back in the 80's JC whitney or whatever it's called, had some neat bolt on ones, vw catalog stuff, man... finding parts back then sucked, lol... Edit, although, there was alot more aftermarket stuff back then.

Hub mounted fenders would look dope. Somewhat like a Plymouth prowler's fenders.

Hi Gary . Def good choice going fenderless,when you mounted fender and cutting I must admit baja !! But love the size of the wheels and yeah maybe front bumper bar with those headlamp cups to match the tyres . 👍

It takes a lot of just looking at it so you can lay awake at night thinking it through. Lose the fenders mounted to the body and mount them on the wheel. It's getting real interesting as you go along.

I love Axle - looks like my puppy. OH yaha - no fenders is cool but if fenders are needed they look best mounted and work great mounted to the front backing plate area .

Afternoon Gary. Looks like your ears got lowered. Nice stance on the Franken Baja. But the front fender still needs some work. I think the front needs to be wider and straighter before it starts to roll back. Moe

Oh I agree, I’m not liking the fenders at all.... figured I’d play around for a few minutes but I’ve got more important work to do before we revisit the fenders. Have a safe rest of the week!

Well, since you kept asking what I thought. lol. I think when u first panned to the car with the tire laying there on the tire you were closest. How about smoothing the body there in front and mounting the fender to the wheel, would have to be mounted to a bracket coming off the backing plate so it turns with the tire as well as it will travel up and down with the wheel giving you zero clearance issues and hold down your spray. Like a plymouth prowler fender.

Can you float the fenders. They stay with the hub and float over the tire like a motorcycle fender. They would also rise and fall with the suspension and maintain clearance with the wheel. Hope that makes sense.

I’ve thought of that, just not sure how I want the final product to look just yet. May not run them at all, may trim them more, may make custom ones all together. I’ll worry about the fenders later down the road.

Front suspension lift than ok Because its on factory hight Little lift up suspension than it perfect👍

Just my though drop the finders look way cooler without them Im building my grandson his first car he's 14 by 16 hope to have it done its going to be a 1969 VW Rod with NO finders unless they make me in OK have them if so they will be very small

Fenders won't work unless they are small custom made..for me, the wheels are too far forward so fenders won't work no matter how much you cut them.

@@dannyjonze well I do appreciate that. I have a vision for this build, However, some people are coming up with some awesome ideas and I’d be foolish not to listen to some of them. We’ll see if some of those suggestions make it into my vision for the build.
