I was married for 33 years, have been widowed for 3, and while I've always known the relationship was dysfunctional and I was treated poorly; I've just had the revelation that it was in fact severely abusive, and that I am the victim of long-term coercive control. I'm so grateful to have found this talk.

WOW! What a testament...and what a GREAT relief knowing that individuals like you are coming across this and realizing that it was not your fault and that the abuse was real and it was not imagined. These individuals follow a pattern and once you see it, it can become a relief and we can finally start to heal. I love that you found me speaking here and love that you got some insight from it. It makes all the abuse worth it... knowing that my story is inspiring and educating others.

"Sabrina, your story is incredible. From the moment she began to speak, I could visualize her experiencing this and the pain she felt living with her abuser. Battling with decisions on what would be right to make him happy takes a lot of patience, determination, and confidence to escape. Sabrina, thank you for your courage to change your situation and create a better life for you and your son. Your story is inspiring and will help those who are struggling to get out and seek help."

Beyond words of appreciation for this young lady, Sabrina Victoria, to bring to light what in the State of Florida has not recognized. You have validated our traumatic stories. How do you describe the pain of FEAR and TRAUMA? Coercive Control. Invisible abuse is strategic when establishing 1-love and trust 2- isolation 3- absolute financial control. I also learned that main techniques of 1- coercion: intimidation, humiliation and threats to frighten. 2- gaslighting - downplay your own perception 3- love bombing - positive attention. This was the only video that detailed HOW the Abuser Manipulator sprinkles tests into the situation by assessing the boundaries: name calling, then more: smashing things, then more: Rage Fits then you realize there are Red Flags here. Flipping through all there tools, the confuse us which are daggers to the soul. No wonder we didn't have energy left. Cuts and bruises to the person hood of self. Also called death by a thousand cuts. How do you prove Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as they show a different persona to the world? Thank you for the HOPE of Boundaries do with the establishing of 1- community - who can see it 2- educate - when you see the red flags you differentiate it from what is healthy and what isn't. 3- Network - educate our police, judges and justice system. Everything starts with awareness.

Sabrina has such a powerful way of explaining this less recognised form of abuse. As a survivor of this kind of abuse myself, this was very identifiable for me. More awareness needs to grow around this form of abuse and more importantly how to thrive post abuse. Thank you Sabrina, for your vulnerability.

This is a well shared talk about a crucial for us to face societal sickness that we need to bring to light without reserve. The little boy in me who first learned about this invisible abuse decades ago is appaled that we have not come further than we have in healing this in our society. At least people like Sabrina are championing efforts to bring this to light and leading the way in addressing this debilitating scourge so that we can support each other in breaking free from it. I've interviewed Sabrina and have known her to be helping so many others break free the way she did. It is fantastic that she got up on stage to share this message in this widely watched venue to support us even more than she already was. As someone who is dedicated to helping us rise above societal sicknesses, I am glad for this Tedx talk Sabrina has given. May millions watch and share this video, and may the ripple effect from this talk grow powerfully.

This is THE BEST speech I have heard about emotional abuse. It is perfectly summing all up. From beginning to end. I have experienced it all. This message and knowledge needs to be shared. EVERYONE all over the world should understand how this kind of abuse works! Because as she is saying. It is behind the doors, so from outside it looks like everything is perfect. Because the abused person learns to pretend or doesn't even understand what is going on. Share this with your daughters and sisters. I hope if more people know about it, then we will have the change. Because less people will get into this kind of relationships and the abusers stay alone.

Powerful! Thank you so much for speaking out about this. I experienced extreme gaslighting and coercive control (even though I controlled all the money). He not only stole things of mine that meant a lot to me but he stole things from MY older son and then helped us look for them. The list of crazy things we experienced is long. We didn’t figure it all out until I finally divorced him after a 16 year marriage! Sabrina, what you’re sharing is so exceptional important. I’ve talked to countless powerhouse women who have gone through psychological and verbal abuse in relationships. I didn’t know it was domestic violence and abuse until afterward. We MUST educate our sisters and the men who experience it, too! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for speaking out and shining a light on invisible abuse. We don’t need to have bruises to be traumatized. To anyone who reads this and recognizes it in their life, you are NOT alone! And you should NOT be ashamed. Seek support!

Christina, thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me. Thank you so much for your kind words! And YES, the idea is to get this into the hands of women (and men) who are enduing this abuse. I want to help them open their eyes and come from behind the curtain. How to get this heard? Share, Share, Share! Even send it to people that are in healthy relationships... they many times are hyper away of the unhealthy relationships because they have such a STRONG vision of what a healthy relationship looks and sounds like. We need to watch out for each other. This is how we break the cycle for the children coming up in these environments.

"No bruises, no cuts, no evidence.” Awareness is such a powerful thing. It changes us, and this is one of those talks that changes our awareness for the better. Sabrina does an amazing job of educating us on what coercive abuse looks and feels like from the inside. The awareness that 1 out of 2 women is going to experience this type of abuse at some point in their life is unacceptable. It means this could happen to you… your sister… your grandmother… your child… your friend. Share this talk. People don’t know what they don’t know. In sharing it, you might empower and change the life of someone who didn’t realize this was their situation. You might even raise awareness enough for the people you share it with to prevent and protect themselves from experiencing it.

Powerful, impactful and hopeful message! Wow, Sabrina Victoria, thank you for sharing your story and bringing more awareness to this not so visible abuse. Someone very close to me was in a relationship I (and many other friends) felt was so wrong and as you described. Yet, we didn’t have “evidence” of abuse, it was more like just our thoughts and opinions. We didn’t know how to help and our attempts weren’t always welcome as you can probably imagine. Thankfully when she was ready and asked for help she had her community ready and willing. So thankful you got out, Sabrina! You are a powerful, impactful and hopeful voice - not just for surviving, but thriving.

I love this example you gave. Thank you so much for sharing. You are SO right, the person being abused has to be ready. You CAN NOT make them leave. I actually left my abuser twice (moved out and away for months at a time) And he continued to pull me back in. I don't share that part of my story much, because it doesn't come up...but I was asked years later by the people that tried to save me. I don't have a good answer. I do not know why I went back, I guess I was just not ready. Maybe I still had lessons to learned, maybe I needed to endure more in order to be the woman I am today... who knows. But I am SO glad there was a community waiting for your friend! That is amazing!

Thank you Sabrina, I suffered from this invisible abuse for 16 years, my older children saved me and help me call the police as they witnessed their dad threaten me because i was too scared to answer him calling me on the mobile phone. He convinced me that i was crazy person so i would cry in the bathroom ... my kids told me he was lying to me and playing mind games...so i walked into the police station one day and for the first time ask for help, went into a women's refuge home with the children and left. Literally my kids helped me leave, they were also so unhappy and scared the whole time. Walking away is super scary as you have no money and have dept under your name from the abuser, then finding out that you have developed PTSD. I have just started to heal 3 years after leaving and am studying about this invincible abuse so I can help myself and others when i encounter it ever again. This abuse is so dangerous because it causes victims to spiral into a depression very fast and they get suicidal...It took me so long to figure out that he was causing the depression and mental health concerns. Please take care guys and watch out for others if you witness this kind of behaviour. I had to go no contact, change address and phone number. thank you for this video ❤

Thank you for your vulnerable transparency and your commitment to not leave others in a lurch. Silence helps no one. Thank you for using your voice for good. You my sister are a true picture of a phoenix rising and I know this story of victory will give hope to others. In spite of his poison, I can clearly see that you were always a winner - you just had to convince yourself. Finally, thank you for sharing the calls to action - you didn’t leave us stranded and for me, you’ve helped me to become more tender to those who might be living their “knock off” best life - void of genuineness. My prayers go out to the minimalized and the disenfranchised. May they find the courage to reach out and find solace. You bring to mind the words from Maya Angelou’s epic poem… Still. I. Rise.

Thank you for your share and what thoughts were running through your head at that time. My mother also projected her fear onto me, the criticism and punishment I received was shocking and yet I loved her. After leaving at the age of 18 I found another SOUL to treat me like my mother. It was known to me. I believed it was "normal". Years later I watched the movie Mommy Dearest and remembering laughing so hard. Laughing is a nervous defense mechanism of mine. The thought was . . . maybe it is a European thing around hangers. My mother would flip out over hangers many of times in my life. My mother was like a lioness. If she saw any weakness it is worse for me. And so I would laugh away the projected fear of shame, blame and control because it was too painful to see and feel. It has taken many years for me to learn boundaries. To stand up for myself. To put myself first and to feel safe. So thank you my dear and powerful Soul Sister. Shedding the light on this darkness is very much needed for us to heal on both sides.

I. Get. This. Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal story. Reading your words brought a flood of emotions as I felt the weight of your experiences. It's heart-wrenching to hear about the projection of fear and criticism from your mother, and how that pattern echoed in your relationships. The way you describe finding familiarity in mistreatment is sadly all too common, and it underscores the insidious nature of abuse. I love that you set boundaries, stood up for yourself, and prioritized your own well-being. It takes strength to break free from such deeply ingrained patterns and to prioritize your own healing and safety. My hope is that those that need to see this video can come here and read comments like this... and be able to envision their own journey of healing. If we can do it... anyone can do it. xo.

I'm sure there are women (and men, as indicated by a few of the responses below) who will identify with what you've described. Then based on your explanations and suggestions will with certainty pull themselves together and take action, being a strong stand for themselves, as well as protecting others who might be affected. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and vulnerable personal message about the psychological implications on the minds of those who have experienced Coercive control. The specific directives to ensure that we all have a sense of community are essential to hold everyone accountable. Furthermore, this sense of community can provide support to individuals, helping them realize that they are not crazy and that their relationship is one-sided and not based on love. Once again, thank you for sharing such a powerful message for all to hear and become aware of this invisible abuse, in order to create awareness and provide support.

Just wow, this was so powerful! I knew I went through this in a past relationship but the way you describe the 3 areas your abuser messes with you, I don't even think I put it together. It also got me thinking, did my ex know he was doing this on purpose, we were 17 when we got together, both still kids. Do you know if this type of abuse is always a conscious decision by the abuser?

I stayed for 42 years until I could take it no more, I had to leave everything I owned for my sanity. The abuse continues through lies in court. Cuts and bruises to the soul and psyche are invasive yet invisible. The damage is done.

Going on 35 years. The only way out now is if one of us leaves this earth. That's the only way I will finally get peace. Young women need to hear this! Thank goodness social media can actually do good by spreading messages like this! Don't rush into relationships, don't get pregnant quickly, have your own income!

This was incredibly powerful to watch. Thank you for bravely sharing your story with details that other women and men can use to determine if they might be in an abusive relationship. You are an amazing speaker, and showing us how taking back your own power can be actually life altering will help women and men alike.
