The only film that overtime went from a comedy, to a horror, to a documentary.

The sad thing is that President Camacho is legit a better leader than some I could name. Dude brought in the smartest person around to address their problems. Yeah, things went south for a bit, but when presented with evidence that Not Sure was right, Camacho admitted it and put him in a position of power because he was the right person for the job.

"Your children will be placed in the custody of Carl's Jr." This line alone makes this movie brilliant.

When this movie came out I just thought it was dumb humor, now I can see it's the most PROPHETIC movie of all time!

One of the many things I love about this movie is how random the fanbase is. I have a Brawndo t-shirt and a couple years ago I went into a Costco wearing the shirt and the Greater (had to be in his mid-60's) greeted me with a "Welcome to Costco, I love you."

When Fox saw what this movie ended up being, they pulled the funding and refused to market it. The VFX were never finished. The companies that had agreed to lend their names to it also were horrified with how they were used.

Andrew Wilson (Luke's brother) as Beef Supreme and the rapper Scarface as Upgrayedd are hidden gems. One of my favorite movies.

When I first watched this, I considered it the most terrifying movie I had ever seen. I felt that many of the things being shown would come true, possibly even in my lifetime. Turns out, I underestimated my fellow man and it took less than a generation. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie and it's hilarious, but it's still the scariest film I've ever seen.

"Welcome to Costco. I love you." Is the best written joke in that movie.

I knew a girl who refused to drink water. She was perfectly fine the entire time I knew her and then suddenly in her 30s she collapsed and ended up in the hospital. She caused kidney damage, and her doctor warned her either she starts drinking water or she would die or need a transplant. Last time I talked to her, she only drank water with flavor powder packets put in it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"GO AWAY BAITIN'!" was a favorite phrase at the share house I lived in after I'd watched this with my housemates.

Fun fact: the shoes in the film are crocs. The costume designer found the shoes through a startup, thoight they looked way to ridiculous to not use and then the company blew up.

Dax Shepard really gets overlooked in one of his best performances here because everyone gets caught up in the relevant commentary and brilliant script, as well as Luke Wilson being peak Luke Wilson.

The more years pass since this movie came out, the closer it comes to reality.

Idiocracy was a highly underrated movie. It didn't help that distribution of the film to theaters was gimped on. The film had digital track and shipped to theaters with mono analog sound. I worked at a theaters as a projectionist during its run. It was under advertised and relegated to the smallest auditorium on release. In our 24 screen theater, it lasted only 2-3 weeks before getting delisted.

Because of Terry Crews, anytime something I'm about to say anything that has the word "alive" in it, I say it with the same gusto and vigor he does.

I love this film but it is also surprisingly very accurate. None of my college friends have kids, everyone else I know that barely graduated high school had kids at a young age and now those kids are already having kids of their own. 😭

This is one of those movies that makes you NOT want to think about it too much. It's prophetic and there's no way around it.

Excellent choice and reaction - that movie is definitely prophetic, the direction we're going. Not just commercialism, but degradation of language, social norms, etc is happening all over. Some say it goes in cycles, but it seems we're on the slippery slide down from now on! Enjoy the ride! :)

I was lucky enough to have been able to see this in a theater because it was not widely distributed. Also, for a while, there was also a company that made a Brawndo energy drink and made some commercials. Highly recommend watching them.

Back when the movie came out, I was absolutely convinced, that those first ten minutes are just the truth and nothing else and humanity will go down like that. Was I wrong? I mean, we are getting there.

That scene where the "cabinet" is arguing Brawndo vs. water is a classic. I can't tell you how many arguments I've gotten into over the years that are just like, "It's got electrolytes," lol.

Some countries had laws where people weren't allowed to collect rain water at the behest of large companies. Multinationals manage many of the basic infrastructure of Govts, sewage and water etc. Roads were done ages ago, which is why we have tolls. There was a conspiracy in California to run down the public transport systems and build more roads. The red/green LED on new phones has disappeared, specifically so it will force the user to pick up the phone and check the charge and thereby see any advert or notification on the screen. Technology is being used to collect information and stop people thinking. We are being squeezed into a system where we are just economic units and everything it being turned into a service to get a constant stream of money out of us. It's harder and more troublesome to repair things any more. The only thing the movie doesn't get right is there would be crops and no one would be starving as companies would just controlling that to fill full of sugar and caffeine, most likely genetically modified. There is already a sugar cartel which prevents competition in the US.

I am so glad you guys finally watched this. This is one of my favorite movies and the fact that Mike Judge hit the nail on the head with how accurate it is from like 20 years ago is staggering. I recently watched the interview with him on Joe Rogan and he talked about how miserable this movie was to make from budgeting to scheduling everything. The other hilarious thing he mentioned was the wardrobe designer telling him about these new plastic shoes that were terrible and perfect for the movie as there was no way they would ever get traction but looking at how popular Crocs became, he was astonished that people actually want to buy them... lol As far as foreshadowing the future goes, another one that was spot on and actually got the year right was the show "the last man on earth". Its about a pandemic that wipes out the entire population of the planet and he is the last one left. The timing was 100% correct for when it was set and when covid started spreading considering it was aired first in like 2015.

The suffix "-cracy" means "rule of". So democracy is the rule of the people, idiocracy is the rule of the idiots. Also, for things that the movie predicted: The most infamous one is probably that a certain former Reality TV star who had dabbled in Wrestling became US president.

I haven't watched this reaction yet but this is one of my fav films of all time. The first time I saw it, I thought it was only okay but it gets better with every viewing. You by-pass the dated 90s style humor in the beginning and then you get to the real good stuff.

Justin Long's cameo's and small roles in movies are always outstanding and take me back to watching movies with my Step-brother.

- I think that Beef Supreme is played by the third Wilson brother. -- I genuinely find Joe's speech at Rehabilitation moving. - Can't say enough about how funny this movie is. Easy rewatch. VERY quotable. "What IS an electrolyte?!! DO'YA EVEN KNOW?!?!" - Fox News should HIRE the anchor from this movie. His cadence is on point. -- I'd like to think that if this had a sequel, or were made into a show, there would be an underground of secretly "smart" people in hiding, or hiding in plain site, and that Joe inspires them to come out of the darkness.

I like to imagine this, Wall-E, and The Matrix, in that order, are a trilogy.

When this movie came out, it was only a movie. Now it’s a documentary.

I would say this is the most prophetic film ever made. Most of what was presented here has, or is becoming a reality right now. I can´t wait for part II !

Anyone reading this comment, you MUST google the fascinating back story to this film, how the studio killed it in response to massive corporate backlash, which is why it built slowly by word of mouth as a cult classic the past 15+ years.

So hard to quote this movie when it's still a bit of a cult classic. People are always like oh it's so true and it's prophetic but it's really just funny as hell. The names get me everytime. Beef Supreme, frito penedjo and of course Dwayne Herbert elizondo mountain dew Camacho.

Mike Judge said he had everyone wear Crocs because it was the dumbest shoe a person could wear. At the time they were still being marketed as a comfortable boating shoe. Now they're everywhere.

It's a paradox. Although there were all kinds of stupid things happening in the film, the film itself was very thoughtful and intelligent.

I saw this when it first came out on video. My best friends and I quote the movie often. It's sad how much this movie has become more and more realistic.
