2:02 As an ambulance driver myself, that ambulance was in the wrong. Emergency vehicles HAVE to make sure the intersection is cleared before proceeding. In PA they changed the law that ambulances are required to stop at red lights because there have been too many incidents like this one. The ambulance driver went full speed through a red light, didn’t even slow to make sure it was clear. They were not driving with due regard.
@Shinigamiusmc8 ай бұрын
you can argue that the cammer failed to yield as well, without sound can't tell if the ambulance is running lights and sirens (assuming so since opposing traffic is still stopped)
@MrLazyAmerica8 ай бұрын
@@Shinigamiusmc You could also argue that the cammer didn’t have ample time to react and yield. Due to the doppler effect, emergency vehicles literally outrun their sirens at 60mph+. The faster you are going, the less time there is between you and your siren’s reach. Also, the average driver doesn’t expect an ambulance to blow through an intersection at 50mph+. Lights and sirens don’t automatically grant you the right of way, you have to be given it by other drivers. You are not immune to the effects of careless driving just because you have your lights and sirens on. The EV driver has a responsibility to insure they’re driving safely and with due regard to safety of themselves and other motorists.
@cybore2138 ай бұрын
@MrLazyAmerica What? "Emergency vehicles literally outrun their sirens at 60mph+". Are you claiming that ambulance broke the sound barrier?
@MrLazyAmerica8 ай бұрын
@@cybore213 No, but your small 100W siren speaker can only produce a sound so loud. Have you ever seen dashcam videos of police on highways? Ever notice SO MANY PEOPLE don’t move until the police is essentially tailgating? That’s because they couldn’t hear the siren until the officer was that close. They outran their siren. We’re taught this in our EVOC (Emergency Vehicles Operations Course). You’re projecting a sound in one direction while simultaneously traveling in the same direction, you’re going to literally run into your sound waves.
@Nervegas8 ай бұрын
@@Shinigamiusmc This will be ruled 100% the fault of the EMT driving the rig. A motorist crossing an intersection on the green does have a duty to yield to an emergency vehicle, but the emergency vehicle must still come to a stop and ensure others have seen them and actually yielded. It was in my depts driving SOP in the 90's that we had to come to a stop at all red lights and proceed only once all lanes of traffic have stopped and yielded. Traffic pre-emption devices helped a lot with the issue, but sometimes another rig is responding and will preempt the intersection before you, so youll end up with a red and have to come to a stop. I guarantee the person driving the ambulance had it drilled into their heads to stop at red lights, they just chose not to for whatever reason. I wouldn't be shocked if they were issued several citations.

6:51 If you can't fit at least TWO cars between you and the driver in front, you are tailgating. I don't condone the brake checks, I find washing my windshield works just as well and is safer, but you absolutely were tailgating!!!! You can't do the speed limit when you have multiple cars right in front of you unless you tailgate. Say it's a group of 5 cars, and the one in front is doing the speed limit, everyone else behind will have to go slower to keep a safe braking distance. As an adult you should know these things. Grow up.

Makes good logical sense. In practice, it's much more likely 50-50, which is what makes it such a good example to be careful out there.
@darrennew82118 ай бұрын
My rule of thumb is that if the oncoming is so close you have to watch over your shoulder to see if you're still going to make it, you need to wait longer. You should have time to see it's clear, then look forward, then look for bikes/pedestrians (if appropriate for the intersection), then look forward again, then drive. You can't do all that if you're worried whether you'll fit.
@grzewnicki8 ай бұрын
Cammer turned into the proper lane, other car was driving in opposing traffics lane. If the car that hit cammer had made his turn properly most likely no accident would have occurred, possible he would have hit the cammers left rear quarter panel he clearly wasn't focused on where he was going, he had to be looking over his right shoulder to watch traffic coming from that direction.
@solandri698 ай бұрын
@@darrennew8211 That's what I thought at first too. But you can see from the video as cammer turns, there is absolutely no oncoming traffic. There was no reason for the other driver to be looking over his shoulder. I mean a cursory glance "just in case" you missed something is fine. But he should've been concentrating on immediately looking forward again. I think the real culprit here was being lazy. The other driver didn't want to have to turn his steering wheel more. So instead of pulling straight out and making a sharp left turn, he did a lazy left turn which took him into opposing traffic lanes.
@pazuzu71198 ай бұрын
I think the cammer is 62.375% at fault and the other guy is 38.625% at fault. Bearing in mind the margin of error is +/- 1%.
