Exactly WAY too fast for those conditions especially on a sharp turn, you aren't running slicks with downforce so of course gravity is going to throw your ass off the road

I don't know about the slick tire but I do know how the steering works and the steering "locking up" without turning the key is nearly impossible, that is why I called bullshit on that one. Too fast, on phone, falling asleep could all do it but I would be willing to put odds that the steering was functioning fine. More of a seat to steering interface issue

Seeing how fast those lines are going past, it looks like she was doing at least 50MPH...too fast for the conditions for sure. My guess, is that there was a short period of light rain that was just enough to wet all the grime and dirt on the roads but not wash it off, making it really slippery. Either that, or fresh blacktop? I almost lost it on fresh blacktop once in my youth, that shit is slick as hell for a couple of days.

Any number of reasons can cause the steering to lock up, poor maintenance, faulty equipment, we don’t have an inside view so we can only take the description at face value

I think maybe a little alcohol was involved. A sober person wouldn't do that.

​@sdleasia nope, I've seen completely sober people do the dumb like this plenty of times. No drugs or alcohol need to be involved to drive too fast on wet roads and lose control.

It locked up. Translation: Understeer in wet conditions. Adding more steering in that condition is even worse because you're losing contact patch. Only way to correct is early enough, straighten out and try to brake better, or more advanced... if RWD, more power and hope you save it, and FWD/AWD ebrake handle (if you have one)

That's how ppl get shot trying to fix something that's not broken

only way her steering wheel locked up is if she turned the ignition off. she looked too busy for that.

The better question why was there a semi in an active lane of highway traffic with no hazard lights, break lights or breakdown equipment present. The truck that was crashed into was at fault.

@@switchsinner I agree. The guy was stopped in the lane with no hazards and I'd like to know some context behind that. I have driven trucks, almost all of them hazmat tanks, when trying to stop fast means sloshing liquid, despite the baffles. I could have and would have avoided that. The driver had to have been distracted.

Yes, The steering driver should fixed the damage next time he would be careful on steering to avoid expenses.

All I can say is, “Wow! Glad it wasn’t a stopped Prius.”

Hmmm... Don't think the van is at fault. It would appear that the van entered the intersection on the yellow... unless there is a delay for the light change. Van was in the intersection and nearly completed crossing before the cammer got the green, therefore the van has the right of way to complete the turn. And I agree that the cammer had plenty of time to avoid the accident!

@t7695 The front two tires of the van were just barely crossing the white line when the light changed to green for the cammer. The van wasn't anywhere close to completing the turn when her light turned green so the van definitely proceeded on the tail end of a yellow light and had zero way to clear the large intersection before the opposing traffic light turned green. While the cammer should have been paying more attention to the traffic in the intersection the accident will be ruled against the grey van for entering an intersection when they knew they couldn't clear it before the right of way traffic had their green light. The cammer gets the green light at 3:57 and the van does not get to the cammer until 4:02 . The insurance company for both vehicles will 100% lay the fault on the grey van for the accident for the illegal left turn in front of right of way straight traffic.

The wide angle lens of the dashcam also makes it misleading as to what the driver actually saw. It looks fairly plausible that the drivers view could have been obstructed by the A pillar of the rear of the other truck. Its definitely the other trucks fault for the aggressive move into an occupied lane.

Yeah I think that could be used in court to find him 100% guilty. Other truck was ahead and was about to merge, wife warned him about it, and still intentionally decided to hit the other truck.

Honestly the only issue I see is the camera vehicle not slowing down, other that that it was a rather clean accident.

None of that changes the fact the red truck made an unsafe lane change.

It's actually so bad that I would be surprised if insurance would cover it. And that's due to the dash cam outing the cammer lol. Otherwise you could argue the time frame was different

New York City I frequently drive through NYC on my way to a local airport and I drive a medium pickup truck I slow down at a yellow light and others drive right through the light and several times they run the red light if it’s just changed. There’s no interest on a part of the police to do anything about it.

Running the vid in slow motion, the car was already committed to making the turn when the scooter popped out from behind the bus. I'd like to see the bus cam as to looks like the car never hit the scooter. Looks like the scooter stopped quick and took a tumble.

on top of that it's simply stupid to be on a bicycle or scooter and approach PEDESTRIAN xing at that speed. Don't blame AI/Driver at all

Scooter wasn't in the crosswalk, they were passing the bus in the right lane when they should have passed legally and safely in the left lane.

I don't think they were turning left on red - they were just planning to go through on the yellow and got caught. That cyclist made more errors than just not watching the lights. He was in the right lane of the traffic moving L-R and swerved all the way over through the intersection to try and get on the sidewalk in front of the white car.

She had a green light, not right of way. See failed to wait for the intersection to clear before proceeding. She's 100% at fault.

I agree that the guy on the scooter should have slowed down and more cautiously approached the crossing. AFAIK, when you are on a scooter, you are no longer a pedestrian and need to follow the rules for a bicycle. No?

I would group sccoter riders with bicyclists. Most of them believe traffic laws or laws in general don't apply to them.
