Maybe for a possible side plot, Gohan asks Whis to train him in the Hyperbolic time chamber. It would be an easy way for him to reach his father's level in power. Also, he wouldn't be slacking in his studies and still have time for his family.

Krillin did mention in the DBS Manga that Gohan would possibly be stronger than Goku if he devoted himself to training. At least in Heroes, Xeno Gohan is able to go SSJ3 and SSJ4

Gohan is like Broly from latest movie. Its hard to judge his upper limit as if he goes berserk, only way to take him down is do it fast before he surpasses you within few minutes. Goku and Vegeta train a lot and get heroic entries, but if everything else is failing and even by dragonball standards there is no logical way to victory, you throw Gohan in cause thats where the miracles happen.

I honestly believe that ultra instinct should have been a Gohan tranformation, like an upgraded version of his mystic form. His saiyan heritage combined with the mystic energies of the kais, would explain the white hair. Goku just suddenly gets ultra instinct; and that's why a lot of people have issues with Dragon Ball Super, their isn't a character arc or emotional catalyst that makes these transformation's feel earned. Perhaps Goku and Vegeta fail in defeating Jiren while Gohan is off fighting a unique enemy, that were often seen in super; who can show his enemies their worst fear to paralyze them. Gohan see's the death of his family and at first shocked, being so smart, realizes it's an illusion. At this time, the enemy starts attacking but his hits do nothing, as the strength of his blows relies on fear. Gohan realizes the diminishing power of his father and Vegeta; then says something like "I can't place all that I love on their shoulders, they won't be around forever". He knocks out the enemy in one blow to the gut and quietly goes to where the others are fighting. Both of them are on the ground barely hanging on, as Jiren walks to them, they talk like this is the end,and then suddenly Jiren looks up. Goku and Vegeta turn to see Gohan, where Vegeta proceeds to proclaim that it's over,and that Gohan can't do anything, since he they couldn't. Goku shuts him up and says something like "Good Luck, Son" . Suddenly the universe seems to start shaking as power emanates from Gohan, everyone is shocked. Vegeta exclaims "how can this be?" and Goku says "I know right, no yell, no hatred, what else can this be but Gohan's true power" . They are engulfed in light and introduced to Gohan's Ultra Instinct form, which reflects his calm and pacifist nature.

I always just assumed that Mystic Gohan was Gohan's stored potential during the seven years that he didn't train, and that if Gohan trained throughout those seven years, that he'd be relative to that level of power.

It actually hurts me how they not only wasted Gohan's potential once, but also did it a second time after Beerus showed up. They keep bringing up how Gohan had the most potential out of all Z Fighters but never actually do anything with it (Unless you want to count the ToP arc)

In the Goku Black Saga, wasn't it implied that Gohan was training with Piccolo when trunks left in the time machine and was crying. He was upset because he thought he failed Gohan, but he saw a glimpse of "training" or "ultimate" Gohan when he was leaving. I imagine he was training for more than 40 minutes, and he had been training since that point.

I've always been disappointed that gohan stopped training. Though I also agree that if he did he would have surpassed goku and vegeta, and the show needs those two upfront because honestly they're more interesting and dynamic characters.

Goku's adventure started in dragon ball at the age of 12 and he was fighting super human level opponents, while Gohan started his at the age of 5 training with Piccolo and his first threat being the saiyans Nappa and Vegeta who were much stronger than all the z fighters. Gohan continued to go up against opponents who were thousands of times more powerful than Goku's opponents at that age. Gohan had way more potential.

Seeing him defeat Cell as a kid in my mother's room has made him my favourite character ever since then. I always wanted to be like him, and when they introduced that he was focusing on school i was, and still am, hella pissed about it.... Great video guys. I loved the explanations and story based facts. It’s so disappointing that toriyama has essentially forgot what was Gohans story in Z and took a backseat after the cell saga until his ultimate form in Buu arc. It was nice to see his revival in super but we need more Gohan in the spotlight.

Gohan always needed a trainer. Potential is great, but he can't train on his own, he lacks the drive to do so. In addition, Gohan can only get stronger in regards of who trains him. Training under Vegeta in the hyperbolic time chamber could have made him many times stronger during the Cell saga, if Vegeta would agree to begin with. The problem lies in the 7 year gap before the Buu saga. Goku trained in the otherworld, battled different scale opponents, with a body not limited to boundries like the rest of the z fighters ALIVE. Vegeta trained using increased gravity to keep upscaling his training. And Gohan? He kind of got left alone, the other z fighters disbanded, each went his own way, and Gohan did not have someone to train with.

I do believe that the future trunk's arc in dragonball super would give us a hint as to how strong Gohan would be if he continued training. Trunks was able to master super saiyan 2.

If he didn't stop training after defeating cell and was taught by Whis with Goku and Vegeta, We have ourselves an ultimate god form Gohan. Probably would've gave Jiren a run for his money.

I really do believe they are going to give Gohan a new transformation next season. Trunks got whooped by Vegetas SSB and gained SSR because of it. Gohan got whooped by Gokus Kaioken times 10/20 whatever it was, and will also get a new transformation. Just my opinion, but great video Geekdom.

Honestly when it comes to it, and this comment might not be seen but I have to say it. Gohan when it comes to the story easily has the potential to surpass Goku and Vegeta. Hell, Toriyama has even said previously that he intended to end the original series with Ultimate Gohan beating Buu and saving the universe. Goku was going to pass the torch down to Gohan and pretty much Retire, however because the fans loved Goku so much in Japan, Toriyama had to continue showing Goku in the limelight instead of Gohan like he had originally planned.

Been waiting for this one 👏👏 Next episode: what if King Kai taught the rest of the Z fighters the Kaio-Ken. Do something with Kaio-Ken. Don’t care what it is.

Ahh gohan.. see the problem with this character is, his conflicting backstory. On the one hand, Toriyama wished for him to become the main after kakarot, however fans were not pleased. On the other hand, it was always stated that the characters' own wishes, was to in fact, become a scholar. So in terms of the series, this created a paradox. Had toriyama had his way, gohan would've been fantastic, but completely at odds with his own lore and story. But with the fans having their way, gohan was slipped into a more obscure role, although absolutely FANTASTIC during the buu saga. Mystic gohan? Goosebumps. If kakarots' incomplete ultra instict is used as a benchmark, i'd say mystic gohan is a lite version, say, 20% ish of what kakarot did during that [spoiler] event the very first time with Jiren. All in all, fantastic character, disappointed after mystic, as i expected something to come of that. However the revival in super, especially with all the other older characters that faded from the spotlights, i think he had a fantastic arc of his own.
