Different programming languages are designed to solve various types of problems. Mastering three or four major programming languages is essential for job security and empowers you to tackle a wide range of tasks effectively.

In my line of work prior to coding, I noticed that many of the companies with fleets of vehicles depended on the mechanic shops to maintain awareness of the maintenance needs of their fleet, so I built a product to solve that problem.

Yes sir also, to add to your point that programming language are just tools, ai is just another tool the intuition of what steps need to be taken, what language to use at certain scenarios just comes from experience, and experience comes from just coding and making mistakes so that you are aware of why some tools are better than others. This is not a just learn a language career no even then the language or framework will change. Look at it this way we get paid to adapt to changes

Some surprising info in the tiobe index: C++ has finally taken over C in popularity
@azariamorake
@azariamorake 14 күн бұрын
It doesn't mean C is irrelevant. C is and will be relevant for millennia to come. A lot of these languages are written in C bc for example, in Python there's a lot of abstraction that is basically sitting on top of C code. They'll say for example you dont have to declare data types as you create your variables but how does the computer know if I'm using and int or float? Obv in the hidden code it's still pretty much 'int x or float x'

How about starting out not in web dev but back end? Id be happy as a back end code monkey for the last 20 years of my working life before ai takes over.

Nope, with your age you have a lot of experience and ideas, and probably know what different markets need, so you can develop solutions to those areas and companies. You might get a friend or two here and there so things go a bit easier, but if you have the time and dedication, you can create a lot and make tons of money with it. Not sure about FAANG though.

If you want to stay a web dev, you'll never (or 99% of the time) see or have to deal with this kind of programming. But if you want to become more back-end focused, or change to cybersec, app dev, etc, or become a programmer, you'll need to learn those. There are better stuff to learn now, unless companies around you are asking for leetcode and this sort of stuff, then it's usefull for getting a job (but you woun't see any of it no your daily working routine). Only then, after securing a job, I would worry about learning this kind of thing, with time, just in case, after I aquire a lot of knowledge about my current job.

Im 56 and want to go a coding bootcamp to start a new career. Cost is 7k. Should I risk it? What are my chances of getting hired at 56 out of a bootcamp?

There are self paced bootcamps online that are less than $50, would definitely purchase one of those first before sinking 7K into a similar thing.

@@shark6350 I think because a lot of AI, data analytics, machine learning, bioinformatics and test jobs are centered around Python's rich set of libraries (of course, your experience may differ). A company I worked for wrote APIs for their product in Java, but we tested them using Python. It became a challenge since the developers didn't want to dive into Python, and testers had challenges learning Java.

Python important for obvious use, but officially for security reasons Pentagon requires ONLY Rust today, which is hard language, so this 2024 year the popular is Zig language which is much easier than Rust or C to novices, who knows which will win.

The only successful people in this industry i know, who also started at Internet 1990s boom is the one's who are not coding for salary, but creating & reselling startups, similar to gambling, entering and getting out on the high. But you need to be very smart & creative to always create some new and competitive firm with some connections in media. Ai bubble is on the hype today, but it's very overcrowded by some dumb reason concentrated only in USA (mostly California) not expanding anywhere else-local Ai firms in EU or others countries have no competition whatsoever with very open window support by local laws, so americans are not welcomed there. Very high competition and fraud in USA from chinese, which publish millions ridiculous really bad research papers to be hired somewhere in USA Ai startups - biggest suspicion is "diaspora" research papers without "white monkeys"(chinese slang).
