Imagine if India were a nation of 100 people. Welcome to the 100 Indians Project.
Welcome to little India. 'Little India' is home to 52 males & 8 females. There are 30 children but only 6 senior citizens. There are 80 hindus, 14 muslims, 2 christians, 2 sikhs, 1 Buddhist & 1 person follows some other religion. 16 people live in Uttar Pradesh, 9 live in Maharashtra and 8 each in Bihar & West Bengal. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar & West Bengal are the Ganges belt states, home to 1 in every 3 Indians. 1 in every 5 Indians is from the south. 6 people speak Tamil while Marathi & Telugu are spoken by 7 people each. 8 people speak Bangla (Bengali). 41 speak Hindi as their mother tongue.
Since we have scaled India's population down to just 100 people, what happens if we shrink the land area proportionately? Little India will be the size of 36 football fields. Out of these, 3 are built-up cities, towns & roads. 20 are farmland and 5 are barren deserts or mountains. Only 8 are still covered in forests.
In Little India, there are 20 households - 6 urban & 14 rural. 13 households have electricity & only 9 have toilets. 12 households have atleast 1 bank account and only one household has a car. Although there are 100 Indians today, a hundred years ago, there were only 21!
Today, if India's population is 100, the population of the world is 576. For every 100 Indians there are 13 Bangladeshis, 15 Pakistanis, 26 Americans and 111 Chinese. If you are one of the 19 Indians with internet access, please share this video with the 81 others!
