I have my dream car. A 2006 Toyota 4R 4.7 L V-8 with 122,000 miles. Clearcoat? Perfect, like brand new. Rides and runs also like brand new. Meticulously maintained, senior driven, eat off the floor clean, with no pets, wives, kids or other shenanigans. It is in my garage right now, not exposed to the elements. In 15 years I have spent less than $6500 for tires, batteries, oil, water pumps, timing belts, brakes, rotors, struts, thermostat housing replacement (the only unscheduled repair). That is less than $500 per year. I will die before this car. Thank you for your service.

Tacoma a better truck? Tacoma: composite bed; frontier: steel; tacoma: rear drum brakes; frontier: rear disk brakes; tacoma: c channel frame; frontier: fully boxed frame; frontier: more power/torque; better seating position and on top of all that a lower price? Given that the frontier has proven decently reliable as well, looks like the frontier IS a better truck.

When I purchased my 2014 Frontier, I desperately wanted a Tacoma - until I drove one. For the price, the Tacoma was under powered and didn't handle well. I got my Frontier for approximately $24K, with crew cab, bedliner, towing package, dual air control, and heated seats. I have not second guessed my decision. I have yet to be presented with a situation in which I couldn't hall what I wanted - to include lumber, rocks, mulch, etc. The thing has some power and rides like a car. Six years later, it is running strong. I have had no significant mechanical problems. Ultimately, great truck and I will drive it until it can go now more.

In January 2019, I bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma 4X4 with a 4 cylinder engine in it and I love it. Prior to this purchase, I drove a 1999 Nissan Frontier 4X4 XE. The dealership where I bought my Toyota offered me $2000.00 trade in on the Toyota. I told them I would keep the truck and paid for the new Toyota in full on the spot. About three months later, I ran the Nissan on Marketplace on Face book and sold it for $4750.00. It had 132,000 miles on it. It had been in a small "fender bender" but was properly repaired. In the end, everyone was happy! Thanks for the video Scotty!

Not sure how you can say "No arguing" comparing the Frontier to the Taco. Especially when consumer reports and every other reputable motor rag rates the Frontier over the Taco. I bounced back and forth for months on which one to get, and what it boiled down to, was, I really liked the 'look' of the Taco, but as for dependability and ruggedness and repair costs - no contest. The Frontier is a better truck.

Have only driven Frontiers for years. First was a D21 Hardbody. Man that underpowered little truck was tough, lol. Drove a 2001 Desert Runner for a while, loved the handling, awesome turning radius. 3 3 was still underpowered. My current 2015 4.0 Frontier finally has some sack, although that generation seems to have a poorer suspension and turning radius. All that having been said, the common element among them all is they're tough as nails.

Frontier, xterra, pathfinder (body on frame), and including the titan are all extremely good vehicles. 05-07 frontiers, xterras, and pathfinders suffered of potential transmission cooler corrosion introducing coolant into the transmission fluid. A bypass of that cooler was a rock solid solution. 05-07 also had premature wearing timing chain guides, introduced noise at a certain mileage but many drive on without an issue.

My wife and I just bought a new 2019 Frontier Crew Cab Pro 4X about a month ago. We paid $31,400 for ours and that was with the Premium Package. When we test drove a similar equipped Toyota Tacoma was $47,500. We test drove both the same day, on the same roads on and off road and found the Frontier more to our liking. One thing people say what makes the Taco better is its standard safety features that the Nissan doesn't have. Ironically, during our test drive of the Taco, the salesmen even turned off these systems on the Taco because they were beeping so much we couldn't hear ourselves think. haha The Frontier is a great truck. Simple just the way we like it. Plus we saved $16k overall on purchase price. Just can't argue that. 😎

@wildbreakfast3557 I tow a 19 ft. Cobia center console, no problem. It all depends on how much your wake board boat weighs. Having brakes on your trailer helps with stopping too. I recommend not towing over 60-70% of max load, which is 6,100 to 6,500 lbs for Frontiers. This way you leave room for gear and fuel weight.

I had a 2013 Frontier V6 for 5 years. While there was a lot I liked about it and the price was fair mine had a lot of issues. The rear differential, rear axel and a few smaller things were repaired under warranty. The rear axel had internal failure and caused a few other problems when it went. It only had 40k miles on it. The paint also chipped really easily. Sold it at a decent price after the warranty expired thanks to the “reputation” of reliability. Maybe mine was the exception. But it lived a fairly cushy life and still didn’t hold up.

That truck was awesome and i would have drove it to California from New york any day!. It went through every snow storm, drove the dunes on Assatague island. Pulled 4K trailers all over the country and never once left me stranded. Soooooo i bought a second Nissan frontier, but this one is a 2013 Pro4x Model. It was loaded with 70k on it and i paid $16k. Hey Scott. I bought a 2003 Nissan Frontier xe-v6 a couple months ago with 116k. Gas mileage sucks. I’m assuming the reason it sucks is because it needs a new timing belt and a tune up. Haven’t really dived into the condition of the engine yet. But when I cold start the vehicle I think I can hear the tensioner pulley for the timing belt rattle. So I believe the timing belt is going to need to be replaced. Would you recommend a mechanic to do it since it involves I lot of tools, or should I dive into it? I only have your typical wrenches and ratchets. Also gaining access to the timing belt gets me access to the water pump and thermostat. Would you recommend I replace that too? Or is there still life in the water pump.

The million mile Nissan is a 2007 frontier with a 4cyl & stick shift. It’s here in Chicago & in great shape! Clutch lasted 800k miles! I have a 2011 and absolutely love it!

Thank you for the interesting feedback on the Nissan frontier. I am neither a nissan owner, currently,( nor am I stupid Scotty), but I did own a Nissan hardbody for many many years... loved every mile of it.

I drive a Frontier at work for a national auto parts chain. It is fantastic truck. I haul engines and transmissions some of the time. Very solid.

I bought a 2018 Frontier Pro 4x with 17k miles in December 2018. It's been awesome. Doesn't have the bells and whistles of other makes, but it's a truck. If I wanted amenities I would have gotten a luxury sedan. I go to wilderness areas quite often and the only vehicle I have encountered that is more capable is a top model or modified Wrangler. Dollar for dollar it's the best, most capable truck I've ever driven.

What till you having a few more years and you see those repair bills if the transmission didn't blow up by then.

Just rolled over 240k on my 2013 frontier. Beyond scheduled maintenance I’ve had to replace the exhaust manifold, rear leaf spring and rear calipers. For 9 years worth of driving that’s really not bad.
