Scotty where I live 4x4s are a practical nessessity and used ones are hard to find. Doesn't matter the brand/model they are exspensive when you do find them. My 03 Dakota 240,000 miles still has a market value here of $4,000 to $5,000. I recently went shopping for a possible replacement $7,000 for an 04 anything I even seen an 09 priced $20,000. I live on dissability I can no longer afford to buy another truck. My old Dakota still runs strong and in good solid mechanical shape. So I guess even at 240,000 and 17 years old it's worth the effort to keep her going.

I had a 1994 Ranger pickup that I bought from my neighbor when it had100,000 miles. I sold it in 2015 when I bought his used F 150. The ranger had a 3.5 litre engine, manual trans with 4 wheel drive. In the 213,000 I had it ( total.of 313,000), I replaced the clutch twice ( teenage boys ), all the u-joints, a starter, alternator, mass airflow sensor, and the water pump the month before I sold it. It didn't use any oil, no rust (did have a little paint pealing), and everything else worked, AND the seats did not have any holes in them! I let it go for $1,200 and the person I sold it to still uses it for a work truck. I can vouch for Ranger pickup trucks!

A good friend of mine is a REAL GM fan. Last year he bought a new Equinox, 4 months later the transmission failed. Because GM had SO MANY OF THEM FAIL there was no transmissions available. Since he had been a good customer for so long, the dealership gave him a loaner to use until they were able to repair his. 7 MONTHS LATER his was repaired. I asked him if the loaner held up, he said that the transmission on it was beginning to fail when he returned it to pick up his.

@@brucejones2354 That doesn't surprise me. The ones we have at my work are already starting to have the transmission slip and clunk at like 30k miles. It sucks because GM used to make decent vehicles, and seeing the quality control keep going down due to greed and cheapness is sad.

Since this episode is about reliability it's probably good to mention that the 1st generation of the SOHC 4.0 in the ranger (1998-2001ish) was prone to timing chain issues. It was somewhat remedied after that. The pre 98 ranger 4.0 was OHV and didn't have those issues.

I’d recommend Nissan hardbodies. I had 2 93s. Both had over 200k miles. Awesome little trucks. One had 240k miles, drove it for about 3 years. Never burned oil or anything. Only thing I had to change was the belts and a couple light bulbs. Oldest and highest mile truck I ever had, only one that didn’t give me problems. Until a lady rear ended me texting and driving.

I had one of those Mazda B series pick ups it had the four-cylinder engine in it that had been overheated. The oil rings seized to the pistons from heat. I put new rings and rod bearings in it, never touched the main bearings. I used silicone for an oil pan gasket. The valve cover gasket was reused with a very fine layer of silicone as added sealer. I also reused the exhaust manifold gasket as it was a solid piece of metal. The only thing I bought other than the rings and Rod bearings was a head gasket and an intake manifold gasket. I drove that truck trouble free for another seven years before it finally gave up the ghost. Best $400 truck I ever purchased.
