Her toxicity potential is close to a 9.5, if we are examining toxicity from the standard lens of society. However, one could argue great athletes need tough coaches and not nice ones who will tell them they did great if they didn’t. We’re so obsessed with everyone being nice and calling “meanness” toxic it’s hard to separate the two in a conversation where the standard world is merged into the elite one. Toxic to me is anything dysfunctional. It’s dysfunctional if a ballet teacher doesn’t have influence over the students or the capacity to push them harder. So, by societies definition, she could be toxic and probably is, but by coaching standards she is not toxic, she needs to be mean and tough in order to get the job done. The one girl taking too much of a glimpse of herself and the teacher noticing it was funny to me 😂

@@lujansalva1872 yes that mya be true but you still lose confidence lol. Also a lot of teacher expect you to be confident meanwhile they are pointing out everything you are doing wrong. So you still lose confidence

Life is tough and work is tough too, and teachers have to prepare us for that especially in a highly competitive field such as ballet. I'm sure that this teacher does actually care about her pupils since they do seem happy, confident and supportive of each other. But we also know that there are teachers who really don't like their pupils, in which case you take their criticism and use it to make yourself stronger and better. Accept that they are never going to praise you no matter what, and comfort yourself with the fact that at some point you will be leaving them behind.

@@djlivvy46 I never said they would praise me you are taking it to seriously. Yes there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism I was just saying that sometimes your confidence can be chipped away because some teachers can be toxic to their students.

I gotta say that sometimes I freaking wish I had a teacher like that, coz when I was like 16, our teacher used to threat us all the time or even beat us. And it was kinda normal because we didn't know any better. One day he threw a huge heavy ass office chair at us (I'm not joking lol) and left us some scars. Now I look at this and feel so happy for all who have an actual teacher, not some psychopath (but also kinda jealous, don't get me wrong haha):D

I used to know an Irena like this back when I did ballroom in college! She was a tiny spitfire and we loved her 😂

Ugh such a shame. I don't understand how teachers can just yell instead of properly correcting. One time I was attending an adult ballet class different from my usual school because my school was on break and the teacher kept screaming at this girl "PAS DE BOURREE" and spat on the floor but didn't tell what was wrong so obviously she's going to keep doing it wrong???

@@lionsmaine1238 Ikr!! It's so bad, I have to search after class to self teach myself what I got wrong... But many other girls in my class that are complete beginners suffer a lot from this. I'm just working hard to get to a better academy asap.

That's stupid, pointless and counter productive. Teaching the arts means more than knowinf gow to do something, it means the ability to translate your own knowlesge od how to do it into WORDS that other people can understand. You can't effectively teach dance, painting, acting, none of it, if you cant translate.

That's a sure fire way to break down a student's self esteem and confidence.

@@eviedramani8961 yeah and you will be given the basics and you will be dancing alongside professionals once in a while. Trust me it's not easy but your passion for it will make you enjoy it.

@@libertychic8926​​ When good teachers do it, it’s not out of malice or anything weird. It’s the same way personal trainers can and will poke different muscles to correct or get you to think about which to tighten or use. Your glutes are just as important as any other muscle to tighten/control in ballet. It’s a quick poke to whichever muscle just to get us to mentally note which muscle is being corrected or making sure it’s being used properly. So I’m sorry but I prefer a light poke over being injured because I wasn’t using a muscle properly.

The old Chechetti days were many who used a stick...but that is ridiculous, today. Tap counting with is stick to keep a unison of each given barre/floor work is for knowing what time signature.

Потому что зеркало нужно на начальных этапах отработки техники. Дальше время научиться и чувствовать положения тела без взгляда со стороны. Совсем сложные тонкости балетмейстер подскажет. Получается, что привычка смотреть в зеркало не дает ничего, кроме отвлечения. И хуже чувствуешь свое тело, пока смотришь.
