Don't bother here how you get promoted fast and get a salary increase in a corporation: 1. Stay away from hard work like the plaque, will only get you tired and you are better busting of energy. 2. Speak and show off in the meetings, always speak loud and confident even if you are talking nonsense. 3. Befriend your boss, and who ever can help you with your promotion, be ready to go out and have a drink togheter whenever the chance. In corporations promotions are all about politics, not work.

So true. Promotion is not how good you are, but about how people think you are

My first job I got promoted at was literally because of chance. I got lucky and got on the good side of my manager. You also need to make them dependent on you by working hard though. Take in those high risk tasks and perform well enough to where they need you. Then just stay there for eons

Promotion is solely by your boss but success depends on ourselves. So try your best to ensure your boss likes u, then the likelihood of u being promoted will be higher-it’s usually not abt ‘silent hard work’ but always ‘loud impressions’ formed in your boss’s mind!

I agree 100%.I worked with several corporations. They promoted lazy, lousy, and untalented employees, who just pretended to work"hard" and "being very busy".

Working hard just gets you burn out. Your superior wont recognize your value on paper. They dont see the blood and sweat you sacrifice for your job. They dont see the time you lose that you could be with your family. They dont see the internal conflicts you have to deal with when you leave work.

As someone that has been promoted quite a few time in my work life you nailed it right on the head. Its all about going beyond your role that makes a difference for a promotion. Some people have this notion that they should only do what they're paid to do yet expect to be promoted because they work hard at what they're "supposed" to do anyway. Obviously there are a lot of variable that comes into play such as your work ethics & how you work with people, etc.. as well.

Well said! Where do you think that the notion of work hard (even if it's the same task) = promotion came from? From where I'm from, I observed it coming from being told since young that steer hard work alone will and should be rewarded, and thus people find it very hard to give up that belief.

This advice don’t work for me. Most of my previous boss are insecure when i ask to help do things on their plate. If you can do their job, why company would need them
@iNNoCeNttDReAMs
@iNNoCeNttDReAMs 4 күн бұрын
@@gptvn1765 This is exactly what my point is about. Its no difference than saying "they dont pay me to do your job". This mindset doesn't get you anywhere close to a promotion. The entire reason why you are "helping" them do their job simply show you have the capability to do exactly what they do if put in the same position thus you are likely viewed as a potential candidate to be promoted. Like I said, there are a lot of variable that plays into this as well. Some places, you may be exceeding and doing beyond what you are doing yet not getting the recognition that you deserve. This is where you have to be smart enough to know your own worth and find a place that appreciate you for your efforts and skills.

Well said. on your last point I also see how tough it is for people to 1) recognize their self worth and 2) have the courage to leave their comfort zone and go somewhere else that may appreciate them more.

HARD WORK = SUCCESS only in YOUR OWN BUSINESS, and not serving in the corporate world. There, you are just a number. You are not considered human despite the propaganda agenda to make you think that You Are Family and A Valuable Employee. They want to make money for the firm, the executives and the stockholders. You are just a plastic, disposable tool, like a paintbrush or sandals. When was the last time you cried when you threw out an old tool, a pair of sneakers, or old stained underwear?

Even though I dislike admitting it, you're right about how the corporate ladder works. Unfortunately, hard work alone isn't enough, and the idea of fair promotions based on hard work is often a myth.

Yes I found it hard to admit (or accept). And no one in school or at home really told us that's how the real corporate world operates, and we have to navigate it on our own.

I live in Philippines. I did loose my job. But I am not worried, because I have a business, a small one but still gave me much more than what My job could ever muster. This realization allowed me to put myself out there but in a different way. With expensive bills, a house with taxes, cars to maintain. It needs more than a job if you want to keep those. Work hard and work smart. But not for a company, not for a dream of someone you do not even know, but do it for yourself. Build your dreams.

Don’t you think interviewing 6-12 months can backfire? It’s a small world in tech and it can come back to your manager.
@9to5MillionaireMindset
@9to5MillionaireMindset 5 күн бұрын
That's actually a very valid question. In normal times I would say that's definitely a career risk. But in today's job climate where job loyalty is less valued, even my managers and directors themselves are pretty open in interviewing themselves. I was also lucky to have a manager openly encouraging me to interview outside so I would know my true market value. I then come back to share with him what I have learnt, what other skills I am lacking for those external roles (the most common one I got early in my career was "lack of strategic planning"), and thus how can he (my manager) help me gain those skills at my current job to perform better.
