Ifor Williams spring eye bush replacement -

After 13 years of hard graft & over 130,000km covered, the little Ifor Williams LT105G twin axle trailer is now requiring some repairs. In this video I show the simple process of replacing the bushes in the eye of the leaf spring. This is the same process you would follow for any vehicle or trailer fitted with leaf springs so should be helpful to many viewers.

Morning Andy and crew. I was always told to tighten the bolt for spring eye bushings with either the load on the spring or to load the axle with a floor jack before tightening the bolt. I was told this helps keep the bond of the of the inner sleeve from stressing the bond between rubber and sleeves.Looking forward to the Rat catching Video , and seeing what worked best for you.

That's a neat little brush dispenser on the aluminum paste. I love seeing up here in the states is that dippity do jar with a brush that makes a mess.

should be flange nuts on new u bolts and 140nm.

You dont have to replace the U-bolts every time you remove them. Ifor Williams, the trailer manufacturer, does not fit flange nuts during assembly. I find it best to replicate what the manufacturer does. Maybe some brands use flange nuts but not Suzuki or Nissan - not on SJ410 or old leaf spring Patrols either. 140Nm is way too high for this M10 thread, it would strip. I believe I have followed the Manufacturer's instructions for this trailer & it's important that mechanics refer to the specific specs for each make & model of vehicle they work on & not just assume some generic standard. Good morning James, believe it or not I haven't done it yet - still need to order new shoes for the little LT105G, once they come in I'll get it done. However, I have adjusted up one of the brakes & found that you really need to remove & disassemble the adjuster, clean & lube up using say copper or aluminium paste otherwise they can be very stiff & difficult to adjust - they get gummed up with brake dust easily. The adjustment bolt os on the rear of the backing plate. Make sure the shoes are not rubbing on the drum once you have adjusted as this can cause the brakes to bimnd up once they expand with heat. Hope this is of help. Andy

@@AndyMechanic yeah that’s spot on Andy, I’m used to HGV trailers so just double checking everything on the smaller trailer before I strip one down this coming weekend. Fingers crossed all goes smoothly as the only difference iv seen so far is the brake cable but even that iv touched on in older hgv trailers
