I have an IFS folder that I created in KZfaq so I can listen to these videos while I play video games. So I am in touch with my Dissociative part. I also started Therapy with an IFS Therapist. I can see how important IFS Therapy is. I do want to say how much I can relate to what you are talking about.

Brilliant using loneliness as a door, to reach the exile. Its kind of a natural way to get to the lonely parts that hold so much pain.

Thank you both for speaking to an issue (exiles, protectors) that I've been "conflicted about" and working with (understatement of my life) for 65 years. But what about the unburdening? There is greater peace and acceptance and functioning through witnessing. Perhaps that IS the unburdening? But IFS seems to hold out this idea/process that feels needed or that will lead to some healing that perhaps hasn't happened yet for me. My experience of healing has not usually included conscious unburdening, more like progressive lightening and easing. Maybe there is a part(s) that is looking to skip over feelings and getting to know more parts/relate more lovingly to other parts by imagining this "magical" experience or process or ritual. Unburdening is something I've struggled to grasp since starting to work with the IFS model years ago. Again, so much appreciation for your taking the time to share this with us. Perhaps it's like my relationship with (the concept of) Self - sometimes the best I can do is know I'm not fully in Self and thus keep attending; likewise perhaps if I feel something (an unburdening?) is needed then that's the best I can do? Just keep exploring and getting to know my parts.

At one point in this video Katie says that you should not work with your exiles without a therapist. What do you suggest to the vast number of people who are trying to use IFS on their own because, frankly, we cannot afford therapy? (I don't even make enough to file taxes.) Thanks.

There are therapists who use it, but may charge a reduced rate. Do you have health insurance?
