As an IFS-skilled coach, and one of Derek's devoted students in 2020 and 2021 (and an observer for some years prior), I can really appreciate and attest to how much joy Derek brings to this corner of the psychological world. Thank you, Derek! And thank y'all for sharing this delightful conversation. Lets celebrate this 40th Year of IFS (in 2023). Such a great interview! I’m left with one question: around halfway you (or rather your skeptical part) said something along the lines of IFS isn’t amenable to systems with CPTSD right away. Can you elaborate on that? My feeling (and personal experience) is that systems with CPTSD have so little trust in self or the existence of self in the first place that a lot of the work in the beginning is building trust and unblending before going to the ‘bread and butter’ of IFS like unburdenings. So it can seem really slow in the beginning. I’m curious what your take on it is!
