Me too, how refreshing it is to watch someone who isn’t screaming their head off, Sabalenka springs to mind. She needs to be told to stop it because it completely ruins the match for spectators/viewers and I’m sure it must be a hindrance to whoever she is playing. Watching a player like Kalinskaya is a dream (especially as she beat Swiatek who I really can’t stand 🤣)

What a player Kalinskaya is! Her calm temperament, her deep focus, her great serve, and her really smart shots … a pleasure to watch. I was aware of her great tennis, but her constant injuries kept her from escalating the rankings. I’m glad to see she has changed her physical trainer now and finally staying healthy. I hope she wins this tournament and we get to see more of her in the future. And, wow, she’s ridiculously pretty too, haha. Added bonus!

Kali put on a Tennis CLINIC out there. She literally sent Ostapenko.. Gauff and Swiatek PACKING which is some FLEX. Her backhand is like knife through butter and her forehand is aesthetically pleasing aswell.

It's interesting to see that Kalinskaya appears so nonchalant about beating the number 1 player in the world, just like she was when she beat the number 3 player in world Coco Gauff in the previous round. Combined with her on-court interview after reaching the QF in Australian Open this year, she obviously is someone who believes in herself that she can beat anyone on any given day. This might help her in the final.

Iga was tired and under pressure - thinking too much…. - for sure was not her day. But is no excuse - in this sport sometimes you win sometimes you lose- that’s it. Saying someone is the best is funny 😄 😅

Kalinskaya played bravely and seemed like she did not fear Iga. i think Kalinskaya was an unknown quantity for Iga, so she could not immediately solve and respond to her game. she always learns from her losses, i am guessing the same will happen here as well. a first-time champion will emerge on saturday, good luck to both Paolini and Kalinskaya!

I’ve been waiting for Kalinskaya’s breakthrough for years. The amount of pressure she’s had to perform at the big stage has been immense plus the constant flow of injuries has really put a dent into her career. I’m so happy she’s playing healthy and improved the mental side of her game because now the results are coming

Kalinskaya turned Swiatek’s fast & furious technique against her. She implemented power and precision from start to finish. Very few unforced errors as well. It’s not often you see Swiatek throw her racket at the ground in frustration 😂 (When at her best, I've always thought Kalinskaya is one of those sub top 20 players that can beat anyone, like Kudermetova, Pera or Kostyuk)

I saw a lot of Iga fans really saying some bad things about Coco yesterday for losing to Anna Kalinskaya. They even went on to say that Iga would show Coco how it is done. Coco at least won a set. Iga cannot say that she won a set over Anna and I love that for her lol! Anyway, in all seriousness, Anna has a bright future! Love her calm, yet powerful nature. Looking forward to see her climb the ranks!

Gauff was way more rested than Iga who just won WTA 1000 event at Doha beating Rybakina after 3rd longest set (90 min) in her career. Iga played today 9th consecutive match within 11 days on WTA 1000 level. There is no other WTA 1000 event where you have to play without even day break its crazy.

@@piqo44 it is true but Anna played 7 matches in 8 days and Iga played 5 matches in the same 8 days, Iga had 2 days after Doha (Feb 18 & 19) with no matches. Both players must be tired, Anna played 3 more matches than Iga in Dubai and she just rested Feb 19 between 1r & 2r

El juego de Anna realmente es impresionante, en parte porque a nivel superficial puede parecer despreocupado e incluso displicente, pero justamente por eso es sorprendente como la concentración de Kanlinskaya parece inamovible y sólida como el concreto ! Mientras otras tenistas caen en la desesperación con berrinches, gritos y demás demostraciones, o como Iga que como un robot, si algo no está saliendo bien, parece que solo puede ir adelante cada vez con más vehemencia de forma mecánica. Kaliskaya beat Iga because she didn't fear her one bit and that's everything when you step on the court. Iga is such a little robot and a sore loser she makes me ill, that's why I enjoyed this so much Kalinskaya kept her cool and took her to the shed. Iga was outplayed plain and simple, then afterwards she went to press conference and whined like a 3 year old, she makes me so sick

Труд на тренировках даёт результат!Главное хотеть идти вперёд!! Благодаря квалифицированному тренерскому штабу, Анна очень сильно прибавила за год!! Ей вполне по зубам топ 3 в этом сезоне!! У неё всё для этого есть!! Смотрю на Арину и не понимаю как она вообще побеждает с такой тупой, силовой игрой!! Анна в игровом плане на много умнее!!

Iga suddenly played a lot of short forhands in the middel and Anna god the upperhand with her flat clean shot that put a lot of pressure on Iga. When Iga came back to play like in the start puttin pressure von Anna with shaping heavy balls it was to late.(but comming back to 5-5 the mach might have changs again) Anna is really god to take the ball early and still keep it in play. Great and difficult to do. that skill works very good on a fast hardcourt surfes. Also Anna serv is really good and put a lo of pressure on Iga. Playing flat hitters it!s great to have a beiting slice. Annas few came in the net because she plays so flat. In my oppinion Iga schould ingrain that shot in her play .(plan B ) She sometimes play to one dimensional and the other great players know it now. Bedst to Iga and Anna from Denmark

Yes, they should - and I am sure they try but it requires to be consistent. Today Iga made a lot of errors and Anna was very focused and consistent, she also played smart. Congrats to her!

Iga swiatek, the default number one is exposed when facing consistent players with great shoots like Anna. She is not a real number one like Navratilova, Seles, Graf, Williams.... is a consistent player and that is enough to be on top on this wta era.

Iga sometimes struggles against unfamiliar opponents (never played Anna), and today was a great example. Anna wasn't intimidated at all, she's been great all tourney, and Iga got rattled and impatient, which usually means she loses. Disappointing showing given that she had a good pathway to the title.

Exactly. She is well prepared for matches with familiar players but may struggle with those who play against for the first time. Maybe couch gives wrong tactics or there is some other factor.
