The Gears of War Trilogy, one of the few game series that keeps getting better.

I've never really noticed the controls in any other game, but the GoW controls, in my opinion, are perfect.

Gears of War 3 is by far the best 3rd person shooter of all time especially in terms of gameplay mechanics.

i used to play gears of war 1 and 2 split screen with my brother ALL the time like 5 years ago. i can't believe ive never played gears 3 and i am playing it right now on my xb1

GOW 2 is by far my favorite. It added the most changes to it's formula and provided the most fun online I had played since Halo. I liked 3 but the online wasnt as fun for me, I dunno. As for Judgement..Well that felt like a cash in on the series.

People, remember that IGN is made up of many DIFFERENT journalists who have DIFFERENT OPINIONS than each other and you. Also, you don't need someone else's approval on something you like, so why even care about reviews?

They gave GOW judgement a 9.2 but they gave this a 9.0????

Why do people compare this game to Uncharted? Gears is supposed to be an overhauled meat-fest for to bring out the psycho in you, while Uncharted is more narrative based. The only similarity, is the fact that they are both third person shooters.

When they made Judgment, they only had half of a development team with a strict deadline. They did what they could and considering that, it's a damn fine effort. I play Judgment and I play Gears 3 a lot more than almost any other game in my collection (excluding Borderlands 2). Think of Judgment as its own game without comparing it to the past gears and thats when I started to think it's not that bad of a game. Just sit down and enjoy what they made or don't buy it. Simple as that.

Playing this for the first time. Beat the first 2. Can't wait to finish out the remaining 3. I never owned an Xbox to play these so im excited to finally sit down and beat it.

I unfortunately got a used copy that apparently has a glitched story mode. so act 4 when u r going for the submarine parts it either goes to a black screen... which you can still move around in and see nothing but the HUD or the elevator switch you press brings no elevator. this makes me sad.

I've never played this game. I played the first two so is it worth getting depending on if the multiplayer is as good as something like COD or BF3?

Just beat Gears 1, almost done 2 moving onto my personal favorite in 3 soon then to play the new games which I have not played. Gonna be interesting to see how 4 & 5 compare to the OG trilogy.

I don't know how epic could stray so far from this in judgement... This game was everything story didn't feel short, everything multiplayer worked perfect, great maps. If judgement didn't try to be hipster gears it would have launched so successful. If people played it at this moment they would be surprised how much epic changed it back to most good routes but to late maps are good and with the dlc you'll have more than 3 maps but the dlc should be free for messing up. My rant for today

Just completely curious when a game comes out for example like Crysis 2 or MW3 on all 3 platforms, which do you pick? I would guess PC for the superior graphics and online community, but xbox and ps3 also have their advantages like Acheivements/trophies and gamepads, which i personally favor over keyboard and mouse.

The amount of time, effort, and plain hard work with the community and epic should have deserved a 10

gears of war 2 - 3... sUUUUUCK! anybody who has played the first remember the suspense. The world was quiet nothing but the atmosphere and your allies sounds. The the world was gigantic and silent, you traveled along your mission really felling like you were marching into hell and not starting next door to trouble. I remember those first levels with the truck and fallen team far down below. Once you reach them hell breaks out and you fighting to survive, cause it wasn't target practice simulator. When it was quiet it was for a good time without exposition bothering and you could enjoy the size and scale of everything. A true feeling that you couldn't go there and not because of linear plot walls.

If you're (seriously) interested in Gears of War and don't mind reading (or audiobooks) then I suggest reading the books. All 5 of them. They really help flesh out the story, characters and they're motivations. The Slab is the last book, but I'd recommend reading/listening to it before playing Gears 1. GoW: Judgement is a prequel to the entire series, but it plays a bit different so it may be difficult to transition from Judgement to Gears 1. Great series and I personally hope there's more games and books in the future.

I just love how they review this game with the way it's presented and its gameplay yet for Blops2 they reviewed it between the campaign, multiplayer, and zombie mode? I would love them to do the same to GOW3 except review it's horde and beast individually and see what they grade it then.

I admit this wasnt what i was hoping it would be in terms of the story and its twists, but how is the dialogue cheesy?! In my opinion it has the best dialouge in any game. Not only does it master the serious moments such as doms death but the banter throughout is so funny between baird cole marcus and dom

@Tealops He said he uses a PS3 and not PC... I had no idea Bioshock was on PS3 though on the front cover it says exclusive to Xbox and Windows. Must of got ported a few years after the release.

funny you should say that as I'm typing this I'm actually downloading gears 3 from xbox live and i down loaded the other two from xbox live earlier in the week, iv completed the first two as of yesterday and i can say that this review is pretty much what id expect there are somethings in the second game that felt similar to the first one but as a whole i think the gears trilogy is known for very,very tight gameplay iv enjoyed every second of playtime so far (with the first two) you´ll love it :D

Realism in context, you can curbstomp someone to smash their head like grapefruit but it takes continuous assault rifle fire to put somebody on the ground. Cover systems never really add anything to competitive multiplayer, which is the reason it only shows up in games that have regenerating health. Do you play anything besides shooters competitively?

Teammates were a little overpowered. I remember walking through this game(on normal of course), because my team just killed everything for me.

New to Xbox and LOVE the Gears series. All on Game Pass so I said what the heck, try it out.. Am on Gears 2 now, frickin awesome! Should have picked this up on PC years ago......

im just saying that certain games aren't meant to be judged on certain aspects of it. It's like how Mario isn't judged for its story and Mass Effect isn't judged on its combat. It depends on what the developers focus on and expect the player to enjoy. Like how the main focus of Battlefield 3 is multiplayer not it's campaign. It's the reason you play the game. And if you think Gears of war has a more engrossing, emotional story than U3, then you obviously haven't played many story focused games.

try something in the bioshock series, you'll really like it.

Also, about the "been there done that" complaint, are you serious? Do you want a Gears of War first person shooter or something? The gameplay is perfectly fine the way it is. And it got better with Gears 3. They've improved the physics, and overall feel of the game's controls. There's more executions, an iron-sight mechanic, and really cool enemy designs. There's no need to change. It's already a good thing that it's staying the same and adding new quirks to the gameplay.

I LIKE HOW THIS SERIES TWEAKS ALL THEIR GAMES MAKING THEM BETTER EACH TIME!!

I will wait for the price to go down first and buy it whether it's for PC, XBOX or PS3, and I have to select in which platform my friends are playing, it's good if you have something to talk about in a friends gathering, But I would say that the PC has an advantage in graphics and you are also right about the console versions, but after a hard work in a day when I got home I just want to play on a widescreen TV and use the joypad and sit on a comfortable sofa and relax..:-)
