The Matrix Resurrections is back with a choice of blue and red pills after almost 20 years since Neo, Trinity and Morpheus were last on the big screen. In the time since Keanu Reeves starred in the revolutionary 1999 cyberpunk, spoon-bending martial arts masterpiece, there have been two sequels, Reloaded and Revolutions, the Animatrix and a handful of video games adding to the lore of the machines' attempts to turn us all into batteries. So, plug in and load up a training program because it's time to catch up on what is real and what is a dream. Here is the complete Matrix Timeline.
From his mild-mannered days as a dead end job programmer, Thomas Anderson (or Mr. Anderson to his Agent Smith friends) Neo has seen it all. The Oracle prophesying him to be The One, falling in love with Trinity, living alongside Morpheus on the Nebuchadnezzar and most importantly knowing kung fu. But through incredible freeway chase action scenes and even more incredible martial arts choreography and hard to follow speeches by The Architect at The Source, Neo's victory over Agent Smith and the fragile peace with the machines that saved Zion wasn't the end of the story, even before Warner Brothers released Matrix Resurrections.

The Oracle tells neo he is not the one though he “has the gift” and “could be waiting for something” perhaps a “next life.” What he is waiting for is Trinity’s love. The Oracle tells trinity the man she loves will be the one. So smith kills neo and he dies. Then trinity professes her love to neo, kisses him, then he comes back to life because then he is the one.

they do. the merovingian owns them. those twins are ghosts, and if you look closely, some of his bodyguards have the qualities and features of vampires or werewolves.

It would be cool if somehow the old matrix versions were explored more. Wouldn't it be cool if all the old human myths and legends were real in an old version. Like Roman and pagan gods, demons, dragons, the sources of legend.

. Since he didn't do as the machines controlled him to, they tried to delete him. That's why he passed out after controling the sentinels at the end of reloaded. That is the first time he connects back to the matrix after saving trinity. (he can connect wirelessly now and hack sentinels) But he was able to escape delition and thus became a rouge program, just like the merovingian and his squad and ended up in their alternate simulation. You can think of neo as a cyborg, half machine half human. Where his hacking skills progressivly grows. He was probably able to learn new code through his various encounters with smith, merrovingian, the architect, the oracle. The movies is basically showing a human visualized way of very powerful hacking, where the humans probably use their senses and imagination to hack rather then write code on the go.

The architect said there were 5 or 6 other "the ones". And the first matrix was probably 200 years before or after 1999. Each of them would have been about 30 years old when they tried to take on the AI.

.....when you "leave" the Matrix ...your body simply awakens from inside the pod that your mind & body have been held prisoner by the machines. Then you are picked up by the people that set you free in their hovercraft and taken to Zion.

As Thomas, in the matrix, he just disappears like in a game when you die. Thomas just disappeared into nothing like Morpheus in the train station at the end of part 1. Then he awakens for the 1st time in the pod. Hence why Morpheus said you’ve never used your eyes before.

Not quite “intentional” as such. The Architect says that the anomaly is “predictable and thus not beyond a measure of control”. The anomaly is “the result of an unbalanced equation inherent to the matrix”. So, the concept of “the one”, and the prophecy surrounding it are all manufactured constructs that are designed to apply a measure of control around the anomaly.

This is the bland version , this movie is a lot deeper than people really notice .... Neo never left the matrix , and it’s confirmed to him when the boy who showed him the spoon , has one sent to him in the “ real world” it’s also why when Neo fought smith ultimately , he could still see him . It’s also why he was able to see the light as he did towards the end . The whole thing was a grand illusion of sorts , Neo was designed so the matrix could understand things it simply could not but then again , he is the eventuality of an anomaly , he isn’t the anomaly . Ironically one could argue that Smith though his intentions were clearly not that , would actually have been the one to save everyone in reality , because at one point or another he would have literally broke the matrix and it’s possible that people might have had a chance to wake up or at least die free , remember even in the”real world” as Morpheus puts it, those machines were all just programs , none of it was actually real . Another thing, the story doesn’t start with Neo , it starts with Trinity, the very beginning starts with her , meaning that this really isn’t about Neo , it’s actually about her . See the whole story has played out several times as confirmed by the oracle , in the beginning of the film , Trinity has already been informed about certain things before Neo , she was trying to reach him because the oracle said Neo would be the one and that she would fall in love with him . So everything plays out how it does , Neo ends up meeting with the Oracle a second time in park before he fights smith , and the convo they had suggests : she didn’t know what was going to happen when Neo saw the Architect . Neo sees the Architect and realizes to him , it’s all a game , it’s all been foreseen or thought of , so he does exactly what the Architect most predicted he would do , Neo saved Trinity , out of love . The one thing the Architect can never fully understand and part of the very reason why he (Neo) exists in the first place . Thus his story played out , exactly as it did before , the peace you see at the end was a form of compromise granted by the fact Neo did right by his deal with Architect in the end , he fought relentlessly and did not give up , even when it looked like he did . And think about it , even though the matrix didn’t restart when he met with The Architect the first time , in the end the same result was more or less achieved regardless. All Neo really did was save the people in the “real world” from dying at the hands of the machines & making sure people had a chance to leave if they wanted , but ultimately that was a lie , as was mentioned before , unless people are waking up in a place beyond the cold and fractured future , some other place . Then technically they are still in the matrix , only thing they are being afforded if the illusion of choice .

why would the Machines need Neo to be assimilated to delete Smith? they were already plugged into every other version of Smith, or at least the human-hosted ones… my take was that the destruction of Neo also caused the destruction of Smith, as they were opposite sides of the same coin, and the “equation” was unbalanced.

Because smith was a virus not a program. Neo was one with the matrix and he combined with so was smith.
