Thanks for showing the growth and not just the planting.

You did a great job of showing how the plot developed over time

Do you remember what the seeder opening was? I am planting sorghum and buckwheat. I was trying to figure out if a 1/4 inch gap will work for me.

Interested to see how you hooked up to your fel remotes. Do you just place the fel on a block and cap the hoses?l
@michaelmiedema96872 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question, I bought long hoses , ran them down the tractor frame and plugged them in to the tilt and roll connection for the bucket. That way I could still raise and lower the loader and use the bucket roll function to operate the cylinder on the drill.

I just bought a IH 510 grain drill the other day. It is rope trip it seems to work fine. But I was wondering is there a way to make it hydraulic lift on a ram? Is there a kit or something I can do? Thanks
@michaelmiedema96874 жыл бұрын
Ben Mesmsn I’m not aware of any kits, but the operation is pretty basic. I would think you could either find the parts off another drill at a salvage yard, or have a welder make something for you that would work. Good luck!

What setting do you have for sunflower and what depth? Recently used my drill and nothing came up
@michaelmiedema96872 жыл бұрын
I have had pretty good luck with 5lbs per acre of sunflowers mixed with 15lbs per acre of buckwheat. With the large seed, the drill will not plant down to 5lbs, so I need to mix.I shoot for an inch deep, but my soil is very sandy.

How does this drill do planting through cover crop?
@michaelmiedema96873 жыл бұрын
I had a mix with grain sourgum in it and it cut through the stalks with out any issues, but my soil is a sandy loam. Not sure what it would do with clay

@@michaelmiedema9687 I'm looking at a drill like yours. Trying to do the Buffalo system on a budget.
@michaelmiedema96873 жыл бұрын
CoyoteFur Yes! I’m trying to do the same here. Build the sandy soil and hopefully get to the point I don’t need to add any fertilizer 👍🏻

Did you not till or disc?
@michaelmiedema96876 жыл бұрын
No, I’m trying to do as close to no till as I can. The ground is a sandy loam, I’m trying to get as much organic material as I can to keep it from drying out so fast in the summer
@prodentkansascitymo42336 жыл бұрын
Michael Miedema I have one of those drills. It will do no till but it’s really not supposed to. Will wear out your openers fast. Looks like it did a decent job.

Do you know what the seed mix was? Using drill as a no till?
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
Terry Crissman Hi Terry, if you catch the first 30 seconds of the video, I list the seed mix and seeding rate. My ground is a sandy loam so I have been doing everything I can to build the organic matter. Once I got rid of the sod, I have been able to no till it with my grain drill with good results. Thank for watching!

Thanks. Looking for equipment to reduce the time putting in plots and improving germination. Most of my plots are small and a 10 ft drill might be difficult to maneuver with
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
I have a 6ft disc, thought a 10ft drill wouldn’t be that much larger, but it’s close to 13ft when you figure in the wheels.

@@michaelmiedema9687 I didn't think the 510 was a no till drill but it seems to be working well. Have you noticed and damage to the unit from utilizing it in a no till fashion? Looking at getting one of these myself to utilize in the same manner. Thanks.
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
Eric Foster hi Eric, my soil is a sandy loam, I have been spaying and seeding with it for years and it works just fine for what I’m doing. Not sure how or if it would work in heavy clay.

Can you go as low as 15 lbs per acre?
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
Travis Langer depends on the size of the seed, if the seed gap is set too small the larger seed either gets crushed or won’t fit. I can go down to 3-4lbs with the grass box on the front for really small seed like clover or brassicas
@travislanger87465 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmiedema9687 well I'm looking at buying one and I'm asking the owner if it can go down that low and he doesn't know. What I'm going to be planning is Bluestem grass seeds.
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
Travis Langer does it have a grass box or just a main box? It may also depend on the row spacing. Mine has 7 inch rows so it would put down more seed per sq foot than 8 inch rows. If you do a google search for IH 510 grain drill sowing chart, you can see the seeding rates for a lot of seeds
@travislanger87465 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmiedema9687 what is a grass box?
@michaelmiedema96875 жыл бұрын
Travis Langer it’s a small seed box attached to the front or back of the main box(mines on the front, you can see the two seed levers sticking up) it’s made to plant small seeds at a low rate
