Mike, I am also in Michigan and have just purchased what looks to be the same unit. I loaded it with rye seed in the large seed hoper and planed. It looks to be planting over 200 lbs of seed / acre! I can not see and way of reducing the flow of seed. I like you have a 20 tooth sprocket and could start bu changing it to 10, but is that the only seed flow adjustment?
@michaelmiedema968710 ай бұрын
You should be able to open and close the seed cups by loosening the lock bolt on the large wheel on the side of the seed bin ( where the chain is attached to the sprocket). By turning that wheel it will move the square bar that goes through the seed cups to open them for more seed, and close them for less seed.
@pauldelongpre20210 ай бұрын
@@michaelmiedema9687 Is that for the large seed box also. I dont think mine has any wheel on it, just on the small seed box?

What is the trick to getting the old double disk openers off?
@michaelmiedema9687 Жыл бұрын
One side is right hand threaded (normal) the other is left hand threaded.. it’s designed so when the disk is moving forward the bolts tighten on both sides. You want to turn the bolts towards the back of the drill to loosen them. Hope that helps
@BradJonesjeeptchr2 жыл бұрын
So, I have one of these, and was looking at it today, how do you remove the original openers? I’m sure there is a trick, I just haven’t figured it out yet
@michaelmiedema96872 жыл бұрын
If I understand the question, removing the double disks, from the back, the one on the right is right hand thread, the left is left hand, so when the drill is moving forward it tightens the “axel bolt “ on both sides. I found holding the disk with a vice grip to keep it from turning helps
@BradJonesjeeptchr2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmiedema9687 the bolt head on the original openers rotates with the opener though right? I’ll try that later this afternoon and see if that works

Mike, it's been 2 years since you posted this video. Hope you're still monitoring the thread. I have a question that's not been addressed in the comments. I'm in the process of restoring my family farm to a pollinator friendly wildlife sanctuary/ tall grass prairie, southern Oklahoma. The 1st (35 acres) parcel is now ready for planting. The seed mix, which is heavily forbes, as well as native grasses, is 'fluffy'', as native mixes are. I noticed your drill doesn't have an agitator to keep the heavier seeds from settling to the bottom. The newer drills seem to have agitators. Do you think this is an issue for uniform distribution? Are you pleased with the out come of your plantings 2 years ago? Would appreciate any insight you (or others) may have.
@michaelmiedema9687 Жыл бұрын
The drill have done very well for me planting beans and many cover crop mixes, but it doesn’t do very good native mixes. They are too fluffy to feed through the seed cups. I don’t know if mixing the seed with something like pelletized lime would work or not.
