Hi there. Thanks for the kind words. We have toured in Cuba a few times and are planning to go again this March. Summer is very hot so it can be a challenge to ride in the summer but we have done it. You need to bring lots of electrolyte drink mix to keep hydrated right. March is very windy. Fall there is hurricanes and tropical storms so avoid that! There are prevailing winds that blow from east to west so riding to the east is generally easier. We rode from Santiago to Havana in 1999 and that was the right way to do it. It also means the sun comes up behind you! We always would ride early in the morning to avoid the blazing sun as much as possible. Getting food and water on the road now is much easier than it was when we rode across Cuba in 1999. On this tour we did not have trouble finding food or water but you won't be able to access cell phone data as it is very expensive. So you need to download google maps onto your phone for navigation. Generally it is quite easy to navigate in Cuba as there are not many roads and the locals are very helpful. The tandem we rode on this tour is one we got second hand. It cost $900 and would be even less money now. But like all bikes the sky is the limit! You can get tandems that come apart. One of ours does this but it was much more money. Most of the time we do not take it apart though as that is more work to put it together at the other end. For shipping the bike sometimes there is no charge and sometimes there is a big charge. It has been all over the map from free to $500. Generally it is a really wonderful place to explore by bike and now with Airbnb being there it is much easier to book cheap accommodations ahead of time.
