I live and work in Miami Dade county Florida. I have witnessed our park services, water management, and other agencies do prevention work. They do controlled burns that take away the fuel that would cause a wild fire. They do maintenence on our canals that would other wise block water flow which is neccessary to fight a fire. They make sure we don't have people squatting in the everglades. They try to protect our indigenous species from invasive animals. California doesn't seem to do any preventive maintenance and are now diverting those monies to house feed and give free medical to the illegals who are now the main invasion point for illegal aliens.

@4:48 I think most people in L.A. hate the homeless and would love if the City just bulldozed encampments regardless whether junkies were in them. But most of them are busy working or living normal lives. The problem is activists with nothing else to do (often homeless themselves) who scream the loudest and protest. Court rulings were also a problem but the Supreme Court just removed that obstacle

When I worked for a major utility in California we lost our SCADA visibility into a natural gas control station. When we went to investigate we found that the homeless had cut through two fences, cut into the electrical drop and then ran the tapped extension cord back out the fence to their homeless camp. This was not the first time it had happened...

The reason for those fires are very simple. If you connect anything that is supposed to be powered by 120V to a 240V circuit fireworks will ensure. Portable stove or fan will run for a little while but eventually the circuit will overheat melting the plastic around it and setting nice warm fire.

I work with electrical engineers; my specialty is mechanical (HVAC and plumbing); they design power and lighting for commercial buildings. One of them worked for a company that contracted for the Army to build bases; he's shown me pictures of some crazy wiring he's seen in the field as he referred to it as "Afghan Wiring". Things like unsheathed bare copper wiring acting as feeders from a panel to a subpanel or a service entrance. Crazy stuff; electricity kills folks please be careful.

Regardless of whether there are homeless camps by their houses, the homeowners will be impacted. The insurance companies would definitely not eat the cost of these fires. Count on the homeowner insurance premium to go up big time soon.

Even though I have worked as an electrician for a few years , I would not attempt to tap into street light electricity to power appliances in my tent. First of all, you are exposed to the weather and water electricity don't mix very well, and secondly when you are tapping into that electricity and joining a power cord to the street light electricity you do not have a circuit breaker to turn off for that street light electricity, you are dealing with a live wire under less than safe conditions.

Yeah, it should be 277 from a WYE connected transformer. 480 volts phase to phase, 277 volts phase to neutral. Pretty much any 120 volt appliance you plug into 277 instantly smokes

We have this in Sacramento, too. Traffic light controllers were broken into and power stolen. Then the traffic lights were knocked out during rush hour. It happens a few times a year. 😢 last winter, they knocked out the street lights over a ten block area.

The problem is that the homeless won't follow ANY rules of the law. Homeless is usually caused by one of three reasons. One mental health. Two drug (criminals). Pure laziness. My answeres one put mentalpatients in mental healthcare. Two put drug addicts into rehab. Put criminals in jail. Now the lazy this is the toughest gruop. Don't work dont eat.

Drugs are the main reason most of them people are on the streets. Mental health has always been factor. Back in the day we didn't have tons of Fentanyl pouring across the southern border. Combine that with the lax nature of law enforcement under Democrats and there ya go. This is what you get.

I’ve taken care of a patient who was sleeping for 4 hours . . . When she woke up, she immediately started making demands and complaining how she had been ignored while calling out in severe pain . . . My instructions had been to call for hospital security when she woke up . Fortunately I only had to put up with a short time of her yelling and swearing at me before hospital security showed up with 4 burly guys. (They had previous experience with her) That prevented it from getting worse. They helped her into a wheelchair, and the social worker came with the tax payer funded bus pass she demanded. She is a young and physical able woman. Her grandmother kicked her out after having enough of being abused by her, having her steal from her, and being her free housekeeper, free cook, and free verbal punching bag. She has no reason to change her behavior or improve herself. She expects the people she yells at and uses to keep meeting her needs. I think the people wanting to help the homeless should take them into their own homes . . Or contribute their own money and time to church and private charities. . .

I live in a formerly wooded neighborhood where there are three homeless shelters. The ditch by my mailbox has been taken over by dealers selling drugs openly, I cannot collect my mail safely. The homeless burned down my neighbor's 150 year old tree for fun three weeks ago. As I was calling 911, I heard them laughing, hooting and hollering over what they'd done.

If I were homeless, I'd probably try to tap into someone else's electric. How do you feel at home when you lose electricity ? We're all "tired" of the homeless, but they're people too. They have a right to exist.

Yes they absolutely do have the right to exist, and the city should find a way to keep them from burning up themselves or the nearby buildings. The city has provided shelters for them, but those places are dangerous a lot of times, and the city officials know this. What are they doing about it? Absolutely nothing!

Like Mexico. I just recently watched this guy who goes around the world and talks about their electricity. I forgot his name. Street vendors and people tap tap into lines on the street. Many accidents happen. They have illegal people and people committing acts like mad in many places now

My father was a master plumber as a profession. He said Mexico has no plumbing codes. I believe it is still true.

Hard to believe that news team report 13,909 encampment fires in 2023 that’s 1,159 per month .Smoke pollution must be really bad And smelly . Watching fr NZ

Damned if I know.. voting in California solves nothing. I've been trying to organize vigilantes, but the lazy ass people won't move to protect themselves, 😢

At least the tents in Seattle are all the same size, colorful -almost pretty. I hope they are safer using the free electricity. A cold, rainy and windy winter day up there with 100% humidity can feel like 20*f.
