Few, if any, physician researchers have done more to understand the long-term impact of Covid than Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, a professor, nephrologist, and epidemiologist along with his team at Washington University, St. Louis.

Can’t thank the two of you enough for all you’re doing:1. To investigate this virus and its impact; and 2) to communicate risks to a sleeping populace. 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks to you both! So interesting to hear of the initial skepticism associated with the studies. I have disabling ME, likely initiated by EBV and an underlying primary immunodeficiency. I hope we’ve entered an era of research, and eventually clinical understanding of the connections between pathogens and chronic illness. I think the probability is high that a significant percentage of chronic illness is triggered by pathogens. Had we embraced a social structural change to indoor air and other mitigation measures, I feel like we could have made a leap forward. At the very least, I hope we’re taking steps forward in the realm of antivirals. Perhaps a lot of suffering could be avoided down the road by reduced viral load upfront. But I fear a lot of lessons have been lost on many.

Eric Topol and Ziyad Al - Aly, thanks for your great work! Most people are not aware of the risks of long covid and do not wear masks. What do you think if scientists and people put pressure on the W.H.O. to send a strong recommendation to member countries to publish informative videos on Long Covid on public TV channels?

Can we do something about all of the public health officials and physicians who are telling people-- unequivocally-- that it is fine to go out and get COVID now? My (usually great) PCP has been pressuring my family to drop our masking and precautions, insisting that COVID is no big deal now. How is this okay?? Why are these messages not getting to people who can influence policy and behavior?
